King's Lynn V Mildenhall (nl) - Saturday 11th August 2012

Recommended Posts

Local derby time this Saturday at the Norfolk Arena, with the battered and bruised Young Stars taking on the very powerful Mildenhall team.

Line-ups for the fixture are still to be confirmed, but one thing that is known that both clubs will be minus one of their usual septet. Adam Lowe through injury for the home side and skipper Lewis Blackbird for the visitors, who will be riding for Leicester that night.

With the Fen Tigers having lost their first league meeting of the season at home to Stoke yesterday, they'll be in a mean and angry mood, and will be more difficult to deal with than normal maybe, but hey, that'll make it all the more fun.

As for the severely race rusty Young Stars, they know that if they want to start moving up the table, they can afford to take no prisoners, so a battle royal can be expected.

Let's hope for some decent weather, a large crowd, and a good and injury free meeting for the riders, no matter who wins.

Tapes up at 7.30pm.

With Recent Maximum Man at the Norfolk Arena Stefan Nielsen and Cameron Heeps in the side Mildenhall could well be good for 30 points behind the 2 of them if all goes according to plan they could be hindered by R/R but I'm sure with strong backing from Jacobs, Halsey, Bates and Terry-Daley the Fen Tigers will take Victory in this one.

You could well be right, and the best way for folk to find out is to come along and support their respective teams. We may surprise you, who knows!!!

So Blackbird is missing another meeting to ride for Leicester, happy days ! At Mildenhall the other week they clearly announced an agreement had been made for him to only miss one of the Tigers meetings ! Missing 2 in 6 days is ridiculous ! Either Leicester are going back on the original deal or someone didn't get something down on paper they should have !

I know Michael Lee has expressed his displeasure over Sunday's situation but if Blackbirds priorities are now away from West Row then replace him is what I say ! Then when he gets dumped by Leicester for underperforming he will be out of a job !

Usual quality comment

Who do you suggest they replace Blackbird with? And if you are right and he "gets dumped" by Leicester maybe a short period of R/R may work in our favour?

As for Saturday night R/R at Number two seems ok to me, Nielsen, Halsey, Jacobs and either of the reserves should be ok. Looking forward to the meeting and hopefully we will bounce back immediately after Sundays blip and claim three if not all four points!!

Shame we'll miss out on some Cockle & Blackbird clashes this time!

Kudos to Dale Allitt for giving Lewis Rose another shot. Many other teams would go for the safe option of R/R.

Observing all things Mildenhall from afar, as I do these days. It would seem,in this instance, Mildenhall have agreed to a fixture change at fairly short notice in the knowledge that doing so would mean not being able to track their full 1-7, with Leicester also riding the same evening. So it seems Mildenhall have made the choice to agree to go to Lynn under these circumstances.

This is somewhat ironic, given that Michael Lee seems greatly upset with Leicester at present.

Agree with PhilK that R/R for Mildenhall's third heatleader will be easier to manage at #2 than at #5. Pity Mildenhall didnt realise that before yesterday's match, really. It may (or may not) have lead to a different outcome.

But then, I've read and have to agree with some of the comments on here, that surely, barring a massive loss of form, three of the four play-off spots are already sewn-up. I fully believe Dudley will finish top of the league table, with Stoke and Mildenhall second and third, and almost certainly meeting again in the play-off semi's.

So given that, it doesnt seem massively important that the odd rider might be missing here or there, or even the odd point be dropped. That is the downside to the play-off system in such a small league, with so few genuine title challengers.

I find Michael Lee's comments about not wanting to deal again with Leicester interesting. I dont really think he's got much choice - surely Mildenhall cannot stand in the way of any of their riders who might be offered a PL chance by Leicester. I think he is over-reacting as a result of embarassment caused by the apparent change/misunderstanding in the fixture clash situation.

When you get away from the inevitable politics in the sport, Mildenhall are having a very good season on track, as they did last year. I hope that their prospects of success arent too badly compromised by either politics or rider unavailability, as it is clearly a very good Mildenhall 1-7 when at full strength.

Really ?

Why oh why do people constantly come out with the " what would you do / who would you sign " chestnut ?

It's not for me to decide or suggest ! If Blackleg ( sorry Blackbird ) isn't going to be available regularly for the Tigers then something needs to be done !

My primary team is the Witches but I have a real affection for Mildenhall and it pains me to see them lose on Sunday when in all probability in my opinion they would have won with a full team !

It just winds me up when a good settled team has to suffer because of situations like this farce ! It's bad enough losing riders to injury ( like Nathan ) and now this on top !

I know a few out there may not like my opinions but I'm entitled to them and The Tigers season could ( maybe ) go pear shaped !

Top-class post, Neil3065.

It's always worthy of keeping the peace when 2 teams are "sharing" a rider. Going back 10 months, you had the Play-Off final between Mildenhall & Scunthorpe on a date when Richie Worrall (and someone else too, but can't remember who) was due to ride at Newcastle. Newcastle and Scunthorpe had a pretty good relationship and the Newcastle promotion allowed Richie to ride in the PO Final, even though the rules (rightly or wrongly) specify that PL matches take precedence, even if the PL match is effectively a dead rubber meeting, which I seem to remember it was on this occasion.

And we all remember how that meeting went.

At this stage of the season, with "only" 2 <Mildenhall> riders riding in the Premier League, and sufficient points already on the board, any unavailability issues won't make or break their season. However, when you get into the Play-Offs, it might do.

Like it or not, the NL is here for riders to progress, so ideally the rider can continue to ride for us (Mildenhall) and the PL team, but if for whatever reason they can't then thats life when you operate in the lower league. Its the same in football that when a player improves off he goes to a higher club, and sometimes loaned back, but rarely.

Opinions obviously differ from person to person, and thats life too. What I would add is, that some people seem to jump of the top of a skyscraper as soon as a small problem/hitch comes along, and they seem to be looking for an argument. These are the same people in my opinion, if they won the lottery they would complain they didnt win it the previous week !

I tend to look for the postives , rather than going on about the negatives. This can be difficult if you are surrounded by negative situations, but there are far more positives at Mildenhall in the last couple of seasons.

Good luck to Lewis and if it doesnt work at Leicester Im certain he will either get a ride a Mildenhall or somewhere else. :D

has darren mallett stopped riding ?

He's still got some metal work in his leg, and won't consider riding again until such time it's removed, whenever that turns out to be.

Yep you're right I dont like your opinions,Lewis Blackbird tries to better himself, there's nothing wrong with that. So comments like Blackleg are totally out of order.

Agree 2ndbendpostie, totally out of order.

As Mildenhall supporters we have to face up to the fact that if our young team is successful the result will be the riders moving up to the PL either this year or in the future. Personally I have no problem with that.

Top quality post Damon, some people have short memories too. It was only two years ago the club was closing for the third time in our history, and the future looked pretty bleak! I'd say since the current promotion took over we have had little to complain about.

Shame Lewis isn't there you have to want a rider to move up and this needs to be supported but this can go against us and we are fighting to win all the silverwear this season. I like Lewis and really hopes he can find the form at Leicester as i would not like to see him dropped. Don't want to lose him from the tigers either so no option is easy. Unsure if i will be at Lynn want to see my tigers roar to victory but really want to see gp as well. ohh what to do
