Y on earth would u need to find a replacement for Chris Harris in the World Cup team?

I think he more than proved his worth in the World Cup series this year.

All the harsh comments Chris is getting on here seems uncalled for... Yes he could certainly of performed better, but he is by far the best British rider we have, I just wish he could bring his elite league performances to the GP series.

I do think a year out though won't do him any harm, I think he needs to get his head together and sort out his equipment so he doesn't have that to bring him down, so maybe he could stop spending money on new cars and bring jimself back down to earth a bit, and spend it on his source of income to ensure he has a future next year in the GP. Which I do think he could win back, I do feel us as Brits find it so easy to kick someone when they're down, mayb we should ease off on all the hating and offer support to encourage people.

Obviously reading this u can see I do support Chris, on his day he can b one of the best in the world and some of the risky moves he pulls off are incredible- just needs to b a little more consistent.

I do fear however tai may get swallowed up next yr in GP, he seems like a nice lad but I think needs a bit more experience first. I agree with some comments if they hasn't of put in a Brit, would Cardiff b so packed? I doubt it!

Sorry didn't mean to like that comment, as I pretty much disagree with everything in it.

I think you'll find Dave Minall was referring to one of Harris' last strops before he was finally thrown out of the series, the one where he threatened to quit Team GB if he wasn't given another nomination. Pretty much sums up Harris in my opinion.

You've got it spot on. I love Harris and when he's on form there's nobody else I like to watch more.

I was indeed referring to his strop in the SS when he stated that if he didn't get the wild card slot he'd quit the world cup.

Some of you need to chill out!

How M.J.Jensen has been overlooked is beyond me,personally I think he's a phenomenal talent,he's more than capable of doing damage in the GP series, and he was seriously fast in the SWC to add to his resume too,Woffinden unbelievably now get's a second chance without actually qualifying,

Am I right in thinking that's now 5 Monster "Athletes" in the series??

No, Monster don't sponsor Tai currently

OK Phil, I don't want to tell you how to do your job, but as you're in the privileged position of being able to ask the organisers directly, why they have nominated certain riders, could you do us one favour?

It seems inevitable Tai Woffinden will get a pick next Wednesday and in light of the discussions on this thread, surely the most pertinent question is, why?

Obviously at first BSI will feed you the press release, which will probably ramble on about his injury during the original qualifying meeting and his top scoring performance in the World Cup race off, but these 'achievements' pale in comparison to Jepsen Jensen's Grand Prix win, World Cup victory and likely World U21 Gold Medal.

What I, and surely many others, want to ask BSI is;

What has Tai Woffinden done in 2012 to warrant a Grand Prix place over Michael Jepsen Jensen?

A simple question, but an important one. Maybe you could even ask Tai himself...

Kind Regards,

JT.

PS. Apologies if this question (and a subsequent article on the British reliance on wildcards?) is in the pipeline already.

I look forward to their response, Phil. BSI's press release highlighting his World Cup performance and 'solid scores' in the league is predictable, but frankly pathetic when you compare his achievements to MJJ.

So another year, yet another piece of charity for British riders. Other than the comical Woffinden selection, this is probably the strongest line up ever.

JT.

WHEN I know who they are will ask the questions ...

Any updates, Philip? It's been a few weeks since the anouncement now and the only excuse for Woffinden's inclusion has been the feeble, 'solid scores in the league and his World Cup performance'.

Given the journalistic nature of the Speedway Star and lets face it the sorry state of British Speedway at this level, wouldn't the simple question, 'why do Britain keep getting GP nominations' be a pertinent one to ask BSI?

As much as some of your readers may enjoy reading interviews with National League second strings in the close season, I would be far more inclined to pick up a copy of the Star if you threw away the generic BSI press releases and pressed them on this significant matter. I'm not even a Jepsen-Jensen fan, but if I was in his team, I'd be pretty peeved by the explanation for Woffindens wild card given the far superior season the Dane has just had.

Otherwise, unless one of our riders actually qualifies by right next year (and I hope they do), we'll be sat here in 12 months having the same argument.

JT.

BSI covered this in their Press Release and when asked really had nothing further to offer. Yes, a British presence is preferable but only if they think the candidate is of the required standard.

They believe - as do some of the people they asked - that Woffinden has a much better chance of holding his own and even to do far better than he did two years ago, which in hindsight was too soon for him. I do think that if not Woffinden then they might well have gone without a Brit. But, as they say, many feel that Woffinden has the talent, will have much better engines in 2013 than he did last time out, and could develop into an authentic GP rider.

The view of many on here about Woffinden isn't universally shared although personally I do feel that he, like Ward, will find next season a make or break year for their GP and World Championship aspirations. Woffinden doesn't possess the sublime natural talent of Ward but both will need to come of age off the track, take a leaf (quite a few actually) out of Holder's book and realise what can be achieved but only if they knuckle down.

Some will obviously disagree but, as they say, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.
