EVENT PREVIEW

Dirt Track competition to hot up in the Potteries

The all action, British Dirt Track championships heads to another new venue, the Loomer Road Stadium, Stoke on Trent and the home of the Stoke Potters Speedway team this Sunday 5th August in the penultimate round of the series, and one in which is crunch time for all of those involved in the title chase, as well as Super Final qualification.

The Dirt Track Championships includes racing from Dirt Track Solos (Grasstrack Bikes), Quads and Mini Bikes in an event with over 40, full on, flat out sprint races with all of the riders gunning for glory in the national championships

In the QUADZILLA QRA British Quad Oval Championships, which is in its 21st season and one that has been ranked as the toughest ever, it is big track man Lee Hazelwood from Kidderminster who has all the pressure after suffering a poor, by his standards meeting at the small Rye House Circuit in round 4. Hazelwood a former 2 time champion and 2012 round 1 and 3 winner trails series leader the flying Welshman Ben Richmond, and with 2 rounds to go Lee will know it’s now or never if he is to claw back some points to take the title.

The battle for the rostrum place is also close between Reading rider Danny Smith who races on a brand new machine this weekend in his aim to top the podium in this round, and Boston’s Nick Wright who has been in excellent form this season and is the surprise package of 2012.

Further down the field the competition is all about qualification to the Super Final at Coventry, which will see the top 10 riders in the series after this round going for a prize fund in a highly attractive new competition.

Riders looking to cement their place in the top 10 are John Elliot from Reading, Aaron Pole from Leicester and Geoff Glover but they will be chased hard from Sussex based Rob Heath who is looking to make up for missing a round, and Preston’s Lee Baxter.

One to watch for the Locals is former Stoke Speedway rider Mark Walsh who has been racing Quads for 12 years and is going all out to impress at his former stomping ground

In the M & S Truck Rentals British Dirt Track Solo Championships young Trevor Heath will be looking to continue his stunning form having been unbeaten in his last 10 races, and leads the series by over the Veteran Eric Pike. The battle for second place is where the series competition is at, with both Jon Stevens and young Adam Shepherd both with a chance to reel in Pike with two rounds to go

The racing in the Welsh Pitbikes British Dirt Track Mini Bike Championships will be as close and frantic as ever, with the works Stomp rider Luke Coker looking to keep up his consistent form and maintain his lead at the top of the leader board. He will have to watch out for the Welshman Matthew Cole who is getting quicker with every round and currently lies in second in the series.

Third place man Wayne Johnstone needs to keep scoring the points as the ever charging and impressive Trevor Heath is going all out to win the event and climb the table.

The Minis are another class contesting to qualify for the Super Final with the top 12 qualifying with Ryan Jeffries and Shane Jordon from Oxfordshire looking to cement their top 12 spot’s but with Sussex based Andrew Walker, amongst others, looking to reel them in competition for places will be hot.

The racing kicks off at 2.30pm with the turnstiles open at 1.30pm. Catering outlet and bars will be open and with over 40 races it is great value for money with Adults being £10, Concessions £7 Children 12-16 £3 and Under 12’s going FREE.
