Team Gb V Team Australia Test Match - 1st August 2012.

Recommended Posts

It would be a waste if the line up of GB was filled with the usual suspects instead of a few young newcomers.

Roynon and Cook deserve a chance and surely Auty.

The Worrall's would also have been in contention.

Perhaps the start of something useful for Team GB.

Well done to Poole for maybe starting the ball rolling.

Now we need test matches at both NL and PL level and the senior team to do as Chris Harris suggests and tour Poland,Sweden etc as well as some positive discrimination for GB riders here.

Give our riders a chance to learn and maybe, just maybe we will do more than just make up the numbers in SWC.

2.Bridger

3.Harris

4.Kennett

5.King

6.Nicholls

7.Woffinden

Shame Auty and Roynon haven't been given a chance. They'd certainly perform better than some of the selected riders. We just test and try the ones that have previously failed. I don't see how including Nicholls will help for the future either!

Totally agree about Roynan and Auty. This line-up is called "short-term thinking" which is totally alien to the way British speedway operates.

Regards. Alan.

It was posted on the Poole forum yesterday by the forum administrator who is also Poole's PR man, just after Lemo announced the Aussie team on Facebook. Middlo confirmed it in interview on Centre green last evening.

Hope thats ok for everyone.

Really suprised riders like bridger, kennett and barker have been picked over auty and roynon who are in better form.

I agree - we need to be more forward looking. I would have given Auty and Roynon a place - as much as anything for the experience. Personally - I don't think TeamGB will win this Meeting. It would have been a great chance for the above mentioned Riders to get sight and feel of the International level that they are aspiring to achieve.

Missed opportunity - I think.

Can't understand it. For the World Cup, I understood their decision, small teams, big stage, may have been a bit too soon, but it's matches like this where we need to be blooding some youngsters. 7 man teams rather than 4 mean that there's enough scope for someone to have an off night and for it not to have a massive hinderence on the outcome, exactly the sort of scenario we need for our young guys, where they can get the experience without having too much reliance on them having to score massive points.

We'd all like to beat the Aussies but the reality is they're well ahead of us, it's no shock if we lose, and with it being a test match where the result isn't quite so important, we should've been using this, as well as a couple of other similar matches on the continent, to be putting these youngsters into a position where they get the experience required so that come next year's World Cup, they'd be ready to be thrown in there. Now it doesn't look like that will be the case, and I can already hazard a good guess that the team next year will be very similar if not identical to this year's, with an identical outcome.
