Bomo1
Poole have announced a Test Match between TeamGB and Australia at Wimborne Road on Wednesday 1st August. Full 7 man teams to renew the SWC rivallry. Should be a good one!!
Robbie B
Should be a great meeting. I was thinking about a test match between Great Britain and Australia only this morning, before I saw this. In 2013 the Aussies are in England playing for the ashes, in cricket. It would be brilliant to have a full five match test series against them around the dates of these cricket test games. After all that was the idea of the very first test matches, in 1930. I'm sure that if the BSPA started organising this soon and also got Sky involved (with TV coverage) they could help in the promotion of them. Such talk as taking on the Aussies with 'Bat & Bike' or 'Ball & Bike' etc I think it would be a terific success especially after we pushed them so hard, on Monday night. Not literally as that would be daft - but it's a something that Sky might saying in promoting it. I would also like to see test matches against Australia, Poland, Sweden and Denmark. Playing each nation on a rota basis. Different nation each year. It could really help, our young riders.
JCookie
Didn't take long, did it? Poole is probably the best stadium I have watched speedway in, and up there with the best tracks but are you seriously suggesting England has any chance there against Australia? michaelcroucher
So it Poole Vs Uk. We couldnt beat them at the World Cup at Kings Lynn so this will be a beating for UK as the Aussies will have WARD and HOLDER racing there. I think i will stay at home and save my money. Mark
And another one What do you expect people to say ? Poole is the worst possible track to take on the Aussies as Holder, Watt & Ward have a massive home track advantage. It's not anti Poole speedway it's just a very poor choice of track. There is zero home advantage, unless you're an Aussie of course Do you want GB to win or get badly beaten. It will probably get a big crowd because the Poole public will support it, some may even want Holder & Ward to go through the card unbeaten, who knows. Poole will make some nice gate money but as I don't want to see GB soundly beaten. Success breeds success and GB would have no chance round there. Firstly, what happened in the Team GB vs Australia tests last year, one at Poole and the other at Lakeside? I'll save you looking - Team GB won both. So why should they be beaten this time? Secondly, these are seven man teams. So Team GB go with Harris, Nicholls and Woffinden as their top three as against Holder, Ward and Watt - potentially Australia are better, But what of 4 to 7? Pick from King, Bridger, Roynon, Auty, Kennett, Mear, Barker, Stead, Morris (maybe) for Team GB versus Schlein, Woodward, Batchelor, Kurtz, Master, Proctor, erm, that's about it for Australia Thirdly, with the SWC now being four man teams with no reserves, how are the "lesser" riders going to get international team experience without these sorts of meetings? Fourth, what's wrong with Poole having a big crowd and making money? Is that not what promoting the sport is all about? And finally, would you have the same moan if this was being staged at Coventry or Peterborough or Kings Lynn or Swindon or, indeed, anywhere else other than Poole. I suspect the answer is no. So it comes down to some people just like enjoy having a bash at anything that Poole do. In my view, your post and JCookie's first one were exactly what you said yours wasn't - anti-Poole. I like to think of myself as pro-speedway

Full 7 man teams to renew the SWC rivallry. Should be a good one!! Nice bit of promotion by Matt Ford, should fill the stadium with locals, better than a meaningless challenge or pairs even if it won't attract many from afar. Is it a genuine inscribed Test Match or a "Test Match"?

I like to think of myself as pro-speedway I made it very clear my post was NOT, I repeat NOT, anti Poole. I've no problem with Poole at all. I want GB to win and Poole is the last track I'd face them on. Their No 1 and 2 ride there, unless Crump turns up, which is without dispute. Poole are probably putting on the match as they know it will sell because of Holder / Ward. But what is the point of having a home Test without any home advantage. We are all allowed an opinion and that's mine.
Richard Sherriff
“Whatever the outcome, the idea of a GB-Australia Test at Wimborne Road is a mouthwatering prospect. “Once again, I am truly honoured to be staging this Test and it promises to be a great meeting between two immensely proud speedway nations. “Unlike the World Cup format, the Test will revert to seven-man sides and true team racing. “Last Monday at King’s Lynn we witnessed some of the most exciting speedway this season between the likes of Chris Harris and Chris Holder. "The fact these two will again be going head to head and on a Poole track which they both admit is among their favourites, really does whet the appetite. “The meeting is designed for August 1 as it runs right into the school summer holidays. I am hoping it captures the imagination and that fans, neutrals and brand new supporters will come out to watch a Test match like this of the highest quality. “Obviously it would even better if either country wins the World Cup in the next three days!” Poole team boss and GB manager Neil Middleditch added: “Great Britain and Australia Tests are legendary in sport and they remain, in my opinion, the most prestigious in speedway. “I’m so pleased to see that it will be taking place at Wimborne Road, too, one of the great tracks for racing in this country. sorry to say this is waste of time! how fixtures are going we mite not fit them all in. and if the weather keep on going as it is they may be more fixtures. Matt Ford is a joke the bloke is waste of time he wanted euro league as well this year. Edited July 12, 2012 by Cov SlideAway
westhamboy66
If it was anywhere but Poole then i reckon you would be jumping up and down. Great meeting in prospect well done about time we had a proper SERIES each season and it doesn't have to be at EL tracks either
Steve Shovlar
sorry to say this is waste of time! how fixtures are going we mite not fit them all in. and if the weather keep on going as it is they may be more fixtures. Matt Ford is a joke the bloke is waste of time he wanted euro league as well this year. You really do come across as a sad git. So Poole organise a stunning looking fixture and you want to crap on it? Why on earth is Matt Ford a joke? What is wrong with the Euro League? The place will be packed out. Hope you don't bother to come.
stevebrum
great idea. But id rather they concentrate fitting in league fixtures than filling in with meeting like this. Whilst the Aussies will be obvious bet Kurtz and davies get a run out at reserve. Hardly makes it world class if so.
Steve Shovlar
Poole have lost a couple of meetings due to the weather but still have dates available to use. Rather have this than no meeting. Fans will come and pack the place out. Holiday season as well so expect lots of first timers to the track to see the Turbo Twins. And hopefully a England victory. ( rather than the pathetically named TeamGB)
