Rico Memorial Meeting

Recommended Posts

Superb meeting and what a crowd. They were not riding for points they were riding the only way they know how. To win.

To see Greg in the 1st race riding our track like he'd never been away was amazing and AJ looked as though he wanted to break the track record in every ride. But Darcy Ward is something else. Surely he's going to be a World Champion one day.He just doesn't want to lose.

Thanks to all the GP riders who attended and obviously a special mention for Lewis Bridger who gave a very good tribute to Lee. I didn't hear Nicki introduced at the start but he was interviewed as well so much was his wanting to attend.

Only problem was getting out of the car park. I got out quick but it wasn't helped by someone trying to drive against the flow of traffic. Obviously the locals know the quick way out because they were driving back on to the car park and filtering in further up the line. I know it's called queue jumping but after 30 mins I tried it and it worked. If I hadn't I could still have been there an hour later. Nothing was moving.

But overall a superb meeting for a really top guy. .

wot a fantastic meeting for #RICO last night, well done to everyone involved in the running of it. the riders certainly werent there just to ride around with some brilliant riding last night. i stayed behind after and waited for car park to empty out before attempting to leave and it paid of as i was out in 5 mins. was nice to see the lanterns being lit and released into the night sky for some hour after the meeting as there was that many. after setting off from plymouth at 10am on friday morning and finally crawling into my bed at 6am on saturday morning im glad i went and witnessed a fantastic meeting for a top bloke.

Some good races and a fitting tribute to #Rico. Took the coach 1hour 10 to get out of the car park, but it didn't spoil the occasion for me. Ward deserved his win, the rest tried their best but wasn't really in the same league as Ward.

I would guess the crowd to be between 4500 and 5000. The Coventry coach handed over £150 before admission and there was 44 on the coach so hopefully a good amount raised for Emma and the boys.

Would like to echo Trees post regarding the speeches by the family, very touching. Also each rider interviewed gave nothing but praise for Lee.

Thanks for the memories

Amazing turn-out for Rico's meeting, thank you to all that came along.

Greg Hancock did well riding Jonas Davidsson's bike, Crump was also on borrowed machinery last night.

Was heartbreaking to hear Lee's son on the mic. The programme notes, especially the poem and words from Lee's wife and mother, were also very touching. Seeing Lee's kevlars hanging up and all the Chinese lanterns that were released after the meeting, really set an atmosphere to help remember a great rider and a lovely man.

Ditto on that one!

Me also.

Glad we made the trip down last night. Excellent meeting, huge crowd, and serious kudos to Emma and the boys. Last night, whilst it must have been great to have so many people supporting her and her family, and made her feel so proud of what Lee meant to so many, it must have been so difficult and emotional for her at the same time. I'm not sure in her position I'd have been able to cope as well as she did.

Absolutely cracking meeting with all riders giving their all. Only dissapontment was the Lakeside fans cheering when Darcy hit the deck in the final.

Booed him when presented his trophy at the end by Emma.

Very poor considering all the boys rode for nothing tonight.

Fitting tribute to Lee.

I don't know it was Lakeside fans but in light of why we were all there I felt it was in poor taste :-( RIP #RICO

Completely agree with those posts.

All riders gave their all and made a memorable meeting. I've never seen such a large crowd to be honest (only been going to speedway since 2007), but I'm sure if my dad was alive, he'd have told me that's what it was like 'in the olden days'. Nice to see a few flags put up around the stadium for the event in tribute, particularly liked Lakeside's large flag on the ground. Lovely touch.

The owner of this programme on ebay would have donated to the Rico fund by buying it in the first place, but a day after the meeting and it's up for sale with a minimum price of £3. The seller is obviuously trying to make profit out of this.... shame on them

Currently at £16. I've asked the question if proceeds are being donated to Rico's fund. Not my business really but depends if I bid.

prog is being officially re-printed so you don't need to...

That is GREAT news - thank you for letting us know.

I looked to see if that was stated anywhere - I would've said it upfront if it was the case. As there was no mention I assumed not, hence me not bidding. I would honestly prefer to pay over and above the official price knowing where the money will end up.

I still have 4 progs from that fateful day in Wroclaw back in May.I have sought advice on whether to list them on ebay(is this a morbid thing to do,with what happened on May 13th?),and forward the proceeds to the Richardson Family. They may bring a fortune or they may bring a bare minimum.I don't know what to do for the best,so any ideas on this forum would be greatly appreciated.
