Was hoping to see you there this arvo Phil, but met Mr Barton instead!! :drink: Your team were excellent.

Bit of a drawn out meeting(HT was gone by 6.30pm!! :o ).Must say without the Dudley following there today, there would have been a very sparse crowd indeed!!

Didn't want a risk a real shellacking from the wife for being late. I might have done if it had been a half decent meeting, but it wasn't.

I knew there was trouble when I arrived an hour before the start to find a crowd of riders and officials on the 3rd/4th bends and it wasn't difficult to see why, the surface on the inside being 5 shades darker than the outside. I spoke to a few people and they confirmed the inside was unrideable (being far too grippy and deep) and that the outside was slick, bald and dry. They also stated that that might have been avoided had some proper track work taken place earlier in the day.

What we got, then , was a series of processional races and falls as riders bolted for the only area of the track on which it was possible to ride, with only the more experienced lads being able to pass.

What should have been a NL showpiece was ruined by one thing : a sheer lack of effort and care by the Stoke promotion, whose crass arrogance towards members of the speedway public is pretty typical of members of the BSPA. They then have the nerve to complain about falling attendances, and I suspect that it is too much too hope that one day they will realise that there is a connection between the product you offer and what people will pay for. I certainly won't be going there again for a while.

Well done to The Tigers, great win for your guys, and congratulations, their is only one Team who might stop you doing a clean sweep, and i will be backing them all the way, I think now WE can claim to be the Underdogs :wink: .

Im really starting to get pissed off with this dislike the Dudley stuff, Montie with his Scunny coloured glasses, sneering at Teams who aint got a Track, i thought you would have known better, having suffered the same fate yourselves. Shadders who seems to believe all he reads without having confirmation for himself, all i can say is when the idiots if indeed they are, read this stuff it will only make them worse, reap what you sow, or something like that. Oh i lived down in Poole for 9 months last year couldnt wait to get back, its amazing what is in The Black Country air, you should try it one day Shadders, then you might see what our speedway supporters are about. perhaps we might even see you up here on Tuesday slumming it at Monmore Wood, much better than glory hunting at the GP.

I'd be pretty smug about it all GP. Your stadium (even if it isn't yours) is better than either Rye House or Scunthorpe, you get far bigger gates than either of those teams and, pound for pound, I'd say Dudley offer the best value speedway in the country in terms of the entertainment they offer and the way it is presented :approve:

£10 at Dudley or £16 at Rye House ? No contest.

Must admit HT, i always like to read your input on events, whilst on the odd occasion there may be something i dont totally agree with, it is always given with an unbiased view.

Track was extremely poor and the meeting took far too long to run. Mildenhall deserved the win as Dudley seemed to lose interest?

Good to meet up with Bluejam and Halifaxtiger ( even if he is hen pecked.....)

track was dreadful and for a big event in the NL the presentation was poor at best .on the racing side mildenhall had the benefit of the referee on their side  but hey ho congratulations to the fen tigers #hitmenpower

Doesn't sound like Stoke covered themselves with glory if the posts above are to be believed and the likes of Halifaxtiger,SimonB and the dean machine are usually unbiased posters.

Previous problems plus the high cost of fuel put me off travelling yesterday and I know a few others from the Mildenhall area who felt exactly the same.

Although great to see Mildenhall win the NL 4's, I think overall I made the right decision

You definately made the right decision Phil.As a spectacle,it was a non-event,but then again that's the usual for Stoke isn't it.The food outlet had run out of supplies too during the interval!!

Hmm, so why post this then?:

He doesn't GO to NL meetings, as he can't afford to follow 3 teams up and down the country. He still supports Rye House. It's not rocket science.

Er, that wasn't my point. The posting was nothing to do with RH.

He posted a purely negative comment about another NL club (Dudley) - bad enough that anyone wants to make such an inane comment but especially so in the case of someone who admits to have no interest in the NL: why make such a spurious posting..?

May I comment on riders pay rates and expenses please?

Very few vans will be cheap to insure if a young rider or his young mechanic is driving it.

Diesel locally to me costs around £1.39 per litre or £6.32 per gallon.

If a rider is travelling for example 300 miles round trip in an average sized van, particularly with a young driver, he will be very lucky to exceed 40mpg. (yes I know you all have vans that do 197mpg, but I run a small fleet of mixed vans and rarely get much above 37mpg)

That means the fuel will cost around £47 at 300 miles travelling, but the rider may only get £30 expenses, so he is £17 in the hole before unloading the bike disregarding insurance, wear and tear and excise license on the van.

A tyre is £42, methanol £6.50 per gallon perhaps, oil may cost £10 per meeting, engine strips at 40 races for maybe £250 plus parts and the rider may well ony get £10 per point.

Work it out for yourselves, NL riders at the bottom end of the points spectrum are not making anything, just the opposite.

Before we get the old chestnut about apprentices getting low wages, they don't actually pay to be at work do they?

Now consider where your entrance fee actually goes, in the case of the 4TT it certainly did not go on days of track preparation, it didn't go on buying too many burgers or hotdog sausages or chocolate because they ran out of those. Under no circumstances does it go on hospitality training at Stoke as spectators are treated by the promotion as a very unwelcome nuisance there.

Yes, I am a Stoke fan, but it wears very, very thin.
