oldace
World Soccer must have gone downhill since I vacated the editor's chair! WATCHED Ole throughout his career and at all his World Finals. Vastly under-rated when people talk of speedway's greatest in my opinion. Super rider at club level, too. Wouldn't consider him dirty at all, certainly very different in just about every way to Nicki, in terms of temperament and riding style. Ole was classical, typical of riders of his era, no hanging off the side of the bike or right peg off the footrest. Brilliant round the inside line. Ole could be ruthless, to the point of dirty on occassion. He blatantly stopped in front of Egon Muller in a World pairs event sending him crashing down hard. Also Mort was less than pleased with Ole's methods in the 1983 Inter Continental Final!!!!!!!!!!
HasseHolmqvist
But Holder does thing,s in the right manor and if he loses he takes it like a man does Nicki ? I really enjoyed the meeting,Crump i thought he rode some terrific lines didnt look mega quick but what a racing brain.I backed him to regain the title so he,s in the mix just hope Jason enjoys his racing so therefore he will prelong his career. He must be pleased he knows he can mix it and everyyear he believes he can still win the title then hopefully he carries on would love him to equal Briggoe,s record. The 3 young danes looked good and was great for England,s NO1 bomber to be on the pace Chris has been riding really well for the last 5 weeks pleased for him a proper racer and a nice bloke. No he does not take it like a man, he throws his dummy & toys out and stamps his feet .... show me a good loser I will show you a loser, show me a sore loser I will show you a 3 times World Champion

Bruiser McHuge
i think over the past 2 or 3 years Nicki has known he was not a realistic title contender so hasn't overreacted in situations like he used to...i think he knows that this season he is a genuine contender and every point is vital again for him...so the ruthless riding is back which will result in falls for him and/or his opponents and a genuine overreaction when he is excluded.even when the exclusion is perfectly justified He does make for good TV though , even though he does come across as a bit of a prat ! topaz325
Holder is just as bad as Nicki if not worse, his actions after getting a rough ride from Pedersen were very aggressive, finally knocking him off after the third attempt................have just been watching the 2010 EL final when Holder knocked Harris off on the first bend and was not excluded. severnsider
I find it odd that people on the forum using RICO pictures & #RICO seems to just view Nicki as adding colour to the GPs. Some of his riding on Saturday and the semi final challenge on Jonasson in Gothenburg was very dangerous and could have caused serious injury to himself and others

dontforgetthefueltapsbruv
Never seen any WC who couldnt be a dirty bugger if they needed to be. As opposed to Nicki the WC (hopefully never again) who is a dirty bugger whether he needs to be or not!!

waiheke1
WATCHED Ole throughout his career and at all his World Finals. Vastly under-rated when people talk of speedway's greatest in my opinion. Really? I guess when the greatest ever rider is discussed, Ole is likely to be left out, as there are 5 riders with more individual World Titles, including two with double his tally. However, when discussing greatest riders ever, I'd be very surprised if there were many, if any, who wouldn't rank him in the top dozen riders of all time (or post-war). Personally I'd rank him about 7th, behind Mauger, Briggs, Fundin, Rickardson, Nielsen andpossibly J Crump. That said, Ole at his peak was arguably better than a number of those I'd rank above him, but he wasn't as co nsistent (or consistently brilliant) as those others. But Holder does thing,s in the right manor and if he loses he takes it like a man does Nicki ? didn't realise Speedway was so gentrified. Sid - do you really condier whinging about the ref on twitter "losing in the right manner?" Not saying Nicki did either, surely deserves a fine for his antics after the race with Emil. Overall, a very entertaining GP, and I think the ref got ll the calls correct. That said, if Holder had come off down the previous straight, I think the ref would have had to exclude Nicki - Holder paid the price for staying on his bike then trying to dish it back. Any update on Hampel - is it a broken leg or dislocated ankle? How long will he be out for - I remember Carter riding a number of meetings pretty soon after breaking a leg, but I guess Hampel has no really chance of the title this season now, so best to ffully recover and re-group for next year? Whilst I do enjoy a good grammar and spelling observation, it always pays to ensure your retort isn't filled with errors too. Regarding Hampel, word is he has broken his leg and dislocated his ankle (possibly broken and dislocated ankle) and is expected to be out for at least six weeks. Riding with it broken really depends how complicated the break is and I suspect Hampel's is a good deal worse than Carter's was.
manchesterpaul
didn't is spelt correctly. I wouldn't take anyone to task too seriously either, as i typo repeatedly in my posts. Indeed this very sentence i just had to correct one. When will they ever invent 'man-size finger' keyboards. I'm sick of pressing two to three keys at a time lol. Olsen won 3 titles and with a bit of luck could of had more in1972 Ole and Briggo were the best on view(Briggo very unlucky). But Other years 73 ,74, 77, 79 he had big chances fell short but he was consistent for a long period. CONSISTENTLY in a mega strong B.L he registered these figures 1969- Newcastle 10.39 Wolves 1970- 10.25 1971-10.99 1972- 11.39 1973-10.82 1974- 11.39 1975- 10.79 Coventry 1976- 11.05 1977- 10.52 1978- 10.56 not bad is it?.Even when past his best up until his retirement in 1983 was averaging well over 9 points. With his ranking i would agree with all of them which you named would have Olsen in front of Nielsen Edited June 13, 2012 by sidney
