Backless
see scunny soon brought in some experiences into there team hart irving worrell can hardly be classed has the class of 2012 and neither can wrathall so what ha pend to the training school guys only about two in the team what a laugh Jason King and Steve Worrall were in the start of season team, which was always supposed to have a couple of more expereicned guys at the top to help out the likes of Max Clegg, Danny Philipps and Oliver Greenwood. Oliver is already out injured (will be back soon), and Tommy Fenwick has also been given outings for the Saints. Also Simon Allen was used at Stoke, while Adam Kirby (Stoke) and Martin Wrathall (on Sunday) have been No. 8 for the Saints. So plenty of guys from the Amateur meetings / training schools in the mix. But it's necessary to have more experienced guys there at the same time, the National League is both a competitive league AND a training ground at the same time. All the best Rob THAT is the point of the original post - a returnee from long term injury & a PL reserve become three PL Reserves & an NL "veteran". Now either that's a completly different agenda OR the concept of "a couple" in Scunthorpe is much more "liberal" & "cosmopolitan" as well as "exotic" than most would give them credit for.... Hope a lot of people take advantage of the offer to see 30 heats of speedway for just £14 today. All the best Rob

Lewis
THAT is the point of the original post - a returnee from long term injury & a PL reserve become three PL Reserves & an NL "veteran". Now either that's a completly different agenda OR the concept of "a couple" in Scunthorpe is much more "liberal" & "cosmopolitan" as well as "exotic" than most would give them credit for.... Lets look at Scunthorpes team now; Irving, Hart & Worral; hardly old men are they, Irving & Worral both came through the ranks at the saints to get PL rides with Worky & Newcastle, Hart was brought in to replace King who got himself a PL berth - so in fact 2 guys who rode for the saints the last 2 seasons & a like for like swap. Then we have effectively 4 x 3 pointers to go with them. Giving a massive total of around 38pts, a mix of experience and riders learning there trade. You know 4 out 5 of todays British U21 team have come through the saints ranks in R.Worral, S.Worral, J.Haines & K.Howarth, the management does not get hardly any credit for bringing riders on. Add to these T.Woffinden, J.Auty, A.Tully, A.Morris etc who all started at Scunthorpe or improved whilst at Scunthorpe learning their trade it makes me mad when you get purile nit-picking posts criticising the management, I am sure some posters wouldnt be happy unless they had seven 3 pointers riding. Scunthorpe is now set up solely to bring riders on, in the past they were stand-alone and needed to win matches like Stoke, Dudley etc do now & thats great, it takes all kinds & the league is better for it, of course there will be times when you bring riders on that you end up with a tremendous team as they peak and reach the level to move in to PL spots. greyhoundp
Well done to Scunny for giving The Heathens a tremendous fight, and i think you could rightly maybe claim a moral victory, well done to our guys for hanging on in there, and being in a position in the end to be in a position to claim the points when luck went our way. Yes, we were missing Tom P, but Scunny were missing Steve Worall, and couldnt track Tom Young <unbeaten> for Ht 15, so for Dudley to say they werent lucky is being somewhat blinkered IMO. I myself prefer to say the scoring of Daniel Greenwood is papering over some cracks at the moment. Thats my opinion and i am sticking with it, if others opinion differs then thats there perogative. boston five
what was the crowd like today as it was a 3 pm start
June
boston five. You asked about the crowd. As a fan who attends every meeting at the EWR I thought the crowd was quite good. What I will say is that The Young Stars gave us a harder match than the Heathens. You started off with 2 x 5.1s. after 8 hts the score was even until ht 13. The last 3 hts it was still either or to win giving us a last heat decider, and a dam good meeting. You deserved your point! I wouldn't have even minded Heathens take a point but for them to win was definately not on the cards as Scunny led all through the meeting, and had a 2 pt lead going into the last race only for Jerran to have E/F and Gary who was winning lose a chain 50mtrs from the finish line. That is pure luck! But thats speedway!
lucifer sam
Great couple of speedway meetings. It was a shame Gary's bike expired entering the third bend of the final lap, but that's Speedway. So much to enthuse about today - great to see young riders taking their first win or first paid win And Tom Young was just sensational. montie
Still cant believe that heat 15,i expected the saints to get thumpd in the second meeting today but to have it taken from them on the last lap of the last race was cruel luck, you will not see a better pass than Gary Irvings on Roynon, was superb, and fair play to Roynon for sticking at him and giving him the chase,a 0-5 in heat 15 was just plain bad luck, but so it goes! Tom Young was quite brilliant all afternoon,Gary Irving the same with Jerran Hart having some bad luck along the way, still scored well But Max Clegg,Danny Phillips and Tommy Fenwick are the stars!!!! Max Clegg smokin Byron in heat 14 was great and Danny Phillips storming under the same rider from the back showed what he can do Tommy F getting his first race win will do him good, boy can he gate!!!! Was impressed with Ash Morris for Dudley, seems to have his tail up this year I hear Dudley are looking at sponsorship from Robertson/Hartley`s as they`re full of effing jam!
Heathen1984
Crowd was decent, 60% dudley fans easy. But some good races. Dudley did get lucky with heat 15 but sayin kings lynn gave u an harder test, really? There were lots of falls from Both teams in the first meeting but overall two decent meetings. Once scunny get to full strength gona be one of the best teams in the league. Impressed with max clegg, only gona get better with more meeting aswell. Very good rider. June
I did expect Heathens to hammer our untested youngsters as your team looks so strong on paper. The Stars meeting was may be like a practice for our youngsters, dont forget 3 of these kids have only had one or two league meetings and I'm referring to them. Jerran and Gary can take care of any situation and to some point we are now seeing that Tom Young can. He rode brilliantly to beat your best. but when you think that 4 of these kids av amount to 12.25...come on figures ( heat points) are there for all to study and the Stars and Saints were level/even for most of the meeting. notice the scores after heat 14...43.41 in both meetings. but lady luck shone on the Heathens. I felt gutted for the Saints. Always another day though for you to either hammer us or we take a win!
greyhoundp
Paper doesnt win matches though june, riders do, and think ahead to 12 months from now, we will be minus Adam, your "Kids" will have 12 months more experience, which is why maybe i thought we should have gone with another 3 pointer, but the majority of fans didnt want that, they prefered to have Daryll at reserve, my opinion for what it is worth is it always best long term to try and go with two "kids" at reserve, as you have done, this will bring continuity to the teams. We next season will have to have a new No1 and possibly at least another 1 "kid" remember you also have Olly Greenwood to come in, who i notice by the way, was born just up the road from us . Mimmo
This was only my 11th meeting(s) of the current season, and the best by a country mile, that includes anything I've seen in both the Elite & Premier Leagues. I'm not going to knock or praise anyone in particular, because for varying reasons, the supporters of Dudley (loads of them), King's Lynn (I counted 4 in total) and Scunthorpe should be pleased and proud of their teams efforts, on a blisterring hot afternoon (unless you were in the enclosed area on the home straight!!). It was good to catch up with Lucifer for a chat (think twice about wearing those shorts again though mate) and of course Roy (Laurence) Rogers, who looked if he'd come come direct from the baftas......well.....neck upwards anyway I felt proud to display my King's Lynn colours, as I'm sure the people from the other two clubs were too. Great afternoon, and thanks to everyone involved in it.
PaulDK
i just enjoyed the meeting and the sunny weather... it was good to take the win in the end and i think riding against us the Saints were trying just that little bit harder. To be fair i thought we were down on our luck at the beginning with BB packing up in 2 race, the cheer at the end though was for winning, not the 2 engine failures, let face it, we only managed on 5-1 all the meeting and were used to those at Monmore wood, so where cheered even louder when it was a 5-0 and a win.. A great day out and and a big Thank you to EWR for staging a brilliant meeting, & not running out of beer or cold drinks too..!
lucifer sam
It was good to catch up with Lucifer for a chat (think twice about wearing those shorts again though mate) Given the temperature yesterday, the shorts were a necessity. Nice to see you yesterday, and well done for putting the ref right over the KL participants in Heat 15. I agree with you about the meeting, it was also the best meeting I've seen this year by a long way. All the best Rob
