Results from Broadford Sunday Feb 1

The track was uncharacterstically rough when it is usually a very smooth racing surface. This led to some nasty looking falls but thankfully no one was seriously injured.

4th M Slade - White

Final

1st A Jones - Blue

2nd N Hedley - Yellow

3rd R Kziesak - Red

4th T Harding - White

Hard luck stories included Trevor Harding with 4 wins and an engine failure, and Nathan Hedley with 3 wins, a fall and an engine failure. Over all Ashley Jones was a worthy winner though. A welcome visitor from the UK was Andre Cross who was obviously easing himself back into things after serious injury last year. The meeting was a nightmare for the commentators with three Jones, two Holders, and two Hedleys in the main event, and if you included the support events two Hardings, two Slades, and two Dores as well. Karlis Ezergailis was spotted in the crowd not riding due to injury, this time a broken foot due to an accident on a pee wee bike in his back yard. Who said speedway was more dangerous than other disciplines !!

Once again thanks for report Sir Lunchalot --again hope you don't mind it being used on KL site --THANKS!!

How did Daniel Harding do in support events ?

Daniel was only doing demonstration laps on a 500 cc machine with another youngster Luke Slade.

Over here they can't ride 500's in competition until they are 16 but they jump at any chance to get any practice they can on them and often the clubs give them some track time to give them practice and give the crowd a look at them.

Hard to say a lot just watching demonstration laps but in riding style Daniel looks just as capable on a big bike as his elder brother.

Thanks Sir Lunchalot. Is that Michael Slade's brother ??

Don't quote me as they are from Tamworth which is in northern NSW and nowhere near me but yes, I believe Luke is Michaels younger brother.

No shortage of intestinal fortitude in the Slade family either, yesterday Michael was fighting hard for the lead on the outside of another rider who hit a rut and lifted with poor Michael left nowhere to go and totally cleaned up by the rider on the inside. He stayed down for a while but participated in the re run and from memory won the heat.

Good onya Lunchy, love the bit about Karlis Ezergailis. It reminded me of the story going around years ago about Jim Airey and the mini-bike. Rumour had it that Jim somehow managed to get through his career without any really serious injuries, and that included a short stint of road racing, where he managed to throw the bike and himself down the track in a few pretty scarey moments.

So, after he retired, Jim started a mini-bike training school, whereupon he promptly fell off one of the dinky little things and broke his arm! I don't know how true the story is, but it certainly got a lot of laughs way back then.
