PHILIPRISING Posted May 21, 2012 Report Share Posted May 21, 2012 MIGHT as well get the ball rolling. Track at Ullevi has been down for almost three weeks. Weather looking good for later in the week, which will almost be a first for Gothenburg in recent times. New pit area this year following some changes to the stadium structure. Remarkable that riders like Greg Hancock, Andreas Jonsson, Jason Crump, Tomasz Gollob and Nicki Pedersen have never won at Ullevi. mickthemuppet Posted May 21, 2012 Report Share Posted May 21, 2012 (edited) A Few Facts on points scored at 4 Ullevi GP's Jarek Hampel has never won a race there in two GP's Nikki Pedersen is going backwards with places or 3rd,4th 8th and last year 12th Jason Crump has only one place but has won 4 Swedish GP at other tracks Chris Harris very consistant with placings of 14/12/14/13 Greg Hancock has one place only and 2 bottom 5 places Andreas Jonsson never out of top six except when he had a bad crash in 2008 when in contention Tomasz Gollob one place only but always in top ten Kenneth Bjerre .One win and two ordinary performances. Antonio Lindback has had two places in 3 GP's here Emil Sayfudtinov winner in 2009 on such fast machinery Hans Anderson. Just above Chris Harris class here Frederik Lindgren. Seems to be going backwards after top scoring here in 2008 when overwatered track on inside gates caught him out in final Chris Holder. We have only had one world champion per decade in the last 5 decades. Craven in the 60s, Collins in the 70s, Lee in the 80s, Havvy in the 90s, Loram in the 00s. We had a lot of success in the seventies in the world team cup, we won 4 (5 if you stretch it to 1980) titles, but we are 32 years without a genuine win in that competition (I dont consider we were worthy winners in 1989 really) Post war, those few years aside, England never really ruled the world, not unless we were borrowing commonwealth riders anyway, We did though usually have a few genuine contenders about and in the 60s and 70s it was rare that at the beginning of the season you knew for certain an Englishman would not be crowned world champion, the situation we are in today 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As oldace has pointed out, for a period in the 70s England/GB were undoubtably the top speedway nation, cleaning up the WTC and the Pairs. 198 - when England did the "grand slam" would however be the last time it could be said that England "ruled the world." I'd be very surprised if we don't see another aussie take the title before the decade is out. its also worth noting that only about 9 nations have EVER produced a world champion, and all of those nations have had decent chunks of time without producing one. Sweden perhaps have been the most consistent since the war, but that's larely due to the phenomenal Fundin and Rickardson , and even they went 15 years without a wc at one point. mothorsen Posted May 23, 2012 Report Share Posted May 23, 2012 I'm rooting for Lindbäck this time out, but his performances in Indianerna has not been convincing lately. Nicki seems to be in good shape at the moment, AJ is doing well in Dackarna, but this is not a regular track, and well prepared it should be anyones race. There are reports of showers during the day, but sunny before and after. Let's hope it not going to be a mudslide like last year.
