What Is Going On At Leicester ?

Recommended Posts

Well Leicester speedway have oplagised for last night and if fans can tell them what can be done to make it better they say that there are some things that they know needs changing but they would like to know what we think. A bit late for that for some fans

My God!!! What do you want!!?? How many promotions would have done what DH and the team have just done? They have acknowledged that the meeting wasn't run as smoothley as it might have been and have also requested suggestions for other improvements. Over the (nearly) two seasons that The Lions have been back, improvements have been made and attempts to alter the track have taken place. This seems to imply that DH and Co DO listen to the fans and are more than willing to make further improvements.

Will there ever come a time when will you will stop banging on about how poor things are at BP? Maybe you should get behind the team, both on and off track, and offer some support instead of spouting all of your negativity on this forum. Workington could be on the verge of closing, and two or three others have been mentioned as well, because of a lack of support. If you don't want speedway to go under in Leicester, may I suggest that you get yourself down to the track once in a while and shout for your team? It may not be perfect (for you), but I think they are heading in the right direction with the development, and the alternative is for it not to be there at all. What would you sooner have?

I don't want to upset anyone but I get really fed up with the endless digs at Leicester speedway and the promotion. For heavens sake, give them some credit for what has been acheived so far!!

Ok, so it was good that they emailed people to say sorry but how many of those people are on email who left early and how many will return, this is not the first time they have messed up, its been happening throughout the season. Also last season people were saying the track was wrong, did they listen to the fans then, no so why do people think they will listen now, they are running scared that this was the final nail in the BP coffin when fans have really had enough.

Back to last night, does anyone think apart of the problem could of been caused partly by taylor and attwood apparent dislike of each other or is this not the case, just a thought

Its good that they have acknowledged the problem. the first thing they need to do is note the weather conditions. On a bitterly cold night the pre-match introduction of the riders could be speeded up. Then the first race cracked on with ASAP. After that allow the REF to dictate the speed the meeting is run, not the tractor drivers!

Apart from that I still came away very impressed with what I witnessed. The track looks like it should be capable of producing some good racing- love the banking!- and the whole place is terrific I think.

I wish Leicester well in the future. The Promotion and fans can be very proud of what has been achieved in such a short time. I can see you going Elite at some point in the not too distant future, should the desire be there.

Apology

Last night's meeting should have been a night to remember but for many reasons it did not turn out that way and we apologise for the length of time it took to complete. Apart from one or two occasions when things have not gone so smoothly we think we can all say that overall the season has been a success. People have said just that, but we are not foolish to think that everything is perfect. So we would like to hear from you about the things where we fall short so we can address the issues. Some we will be aware of and are currently being addressed and others will no doubt be surprises so don't hold back.

We will be handing out feedback forms at our next meeting on Friday 28th September so give us the good, the bad and the ugly and we promise to publish the findings and what we are going to do about addressing the issues.

David and Alan

I think that's fair enough.

I agree, well done by the promotion for doing this. Unlike how some people would like the promoter/s to be percieved, in my eyes they've always appeared open and have always stepped up to the plate with regards to issues surrounding the club. I'm not sure how much blame can be laid at their door for tuesday, they looked as non-plussed with proceedings as me when i saw them heading for the pits mid meeting. I think they probably do have to take some blame for not controlling the clerks and tractors actions but i don't see what they could have done about the ref. I suppose the main issue is that any problems such as we encountered on tuesday just exaccerbates the lack of on-track entertainment problems we generally put up with and the whole thing gets very depressing for all concerned. If the entertainment on track was better the pratting about that happened on Tuesday would probably just have been another side issue.

It would be nice to see the promotion put in writing their assurances that track alterations are still happening this winter.

Oh, and the final slap in my face on tuesday was the chicken and mushroom pie i bought to eat on the walk back to my car being cold; but in it's defence it had been there waiting to be purchased for longer than anyone would have expected!.

What do you expect.

I've been to every home league meeting at BP since the sport returned.

Plus away meetings at Scunthorpe, Sheffield, Redcar, Rye House. The Fours at Peterborough the PLRC at Sheffield. I think it's safe to say that I do support Leicester Lions.

Yes as a team they have done very well this year, I don't think anyone is disputing the fact.

But, anyone who goes to speedway on a regular basis would say, its a terrible track. The meetings are so long and drawn out , they are for ever grading the track which makes no difference to the speedway at all.

Its just not an enjoyable experience. Of course people will moan.................because there is something to moan about.

You are spot on with what you have said and we have been saying this all season and the latter of last season,so why will they listen next week as the main problem remains unchanged, all the talk about the riders dont want the track being changed is crap when you are promoting speedway, the product comes first before the employees.

People go to Speedway to watch Speedway not a tractor going round and round after every other race. This time of the year its getting cold and people dont want to be stood around. At Scunthorpe we provide a swift show and the tractor goes grading about 3 times a meeting and we get excellent racing. We recently had a double header under 3 hours

OK, so you've made your point, again, but let me say this. Lets say that they do change the track in the close season and give you what you want, but the racing doesn't improve. What will you do then?

It is not a foregone conclusion that by changing the shape of the track you will get far better racing. I've seen plenty of racing from Sweden and Poland, on big wide tracks with sweeping bends, and the racing has been mediocre and processional. Some of the stuff on Sky can be just as tedious, even on a racers track.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see close racing with plenty of passing every week at BP but I'm not convinced it's just down to the shape of the track. We've had some good races at BP this season so it is possible with what we have now. By all means have your opinion but please don't keep going on about the state of the setup at BP on this forum. Try and look at the positive side. Get yourself back to BP and support your team.

PS "all the talk about the riders dont want the track being changed is crap" How do you know this? Just asking.

PPS "Of course people will moan.................because there is something to moan about." Yes, but some people will always find something to moan about no matter what is served in front of them. Whilst some can accept, others can't. Have your say, vote with your feet if you want, but there's no need to keep banging on when everyone knows it could be better and steps are being taken to make improvements.

The promotion announced the riders Did'nt want the shape changed as the promotion were going to change it in june so they say ?

Yes i know what you are saying about tracks in sweden and poland but DH got it so wrong by not listening to those with experience and that was his downfall, he doesnt take advice and risks the future of leicester speedway.

I have never stopped supporting the team and go to a number of away matches when i can, I find it disapointing that a track in its second year is still getting things so wrong.

How many buisnesses would choose employees views against customers views ? Shows how much DH values those who keep it afloat.

I went for the steak and kidney pie, just to warm me up a bit and it was red hot!!! Nice change though to have pies on the menu. Good to see that the promotion have recognised some of the problems and are seeking the fans views on what could be changed. Hope that they also put out Feedback forms at the play off meetings since I fear that next Friday will have a poor attendance. I hope not since there are 23 races for a tenner, but they will need to get a move on to complete it on time.

to be fair fanmale, you asked me that as it was me that mentioned it a couple of weeks ago and i did respond. I was also told at the same time, from the horses mouth so to speak, that there was none anymore and it's all water under the bridge. Maybe we needed a bit of animosity between them on tuesday as one or the other certainly needed a good kick up the jacksy !

Coming to the end of the second season now and Leicester promotion might just as well hang on to their money , the track changes are 2 years too late , the initial crowd has been lost and the new support won't be seen again . Leicester has become just like all the other new tracks the crowd has settled to just about break even level and after missing out on early opportunities will carry on slipping towards the precipice , I would say some of leicesters downfall has been caused by the posters on these very threads Except of course Robert72/jackson2 because they tried to paper over the cracks and bullied anyone who would go along with the everything is rosy train of thought , Well stand up and take a bow you have succeeded in convincing the Emporer that his new clothes are Awesome which they clearly are not !!!

Break even crowds is clearly very subjective when it's your own stadium and you've paid for it's construction. How are you defining it? Enough to pay the bills accrued in running a meeting or enough to pay the bills including actually building a stadium. Or you just don't know but it sounds good saying it?

The last league match on our normal night against workington i would estimate had a crowd of 1300-1400 and in the context of the current recessionary plight of speedway it shows itself in a good light against almost all others. It was one of our biggest crowds of the season.

I'm afraid you always come across to me as a chancer, taking any opportunities to have a dig (i'm guessing in the name of Sam but who cares) and you always leave the caveat that should someone, such as myself, reply to your guff then it's just forum bullies doing their thing. Whilst i don't agree with the amount of times he tells us the same thing I have more respect for robert72 as at least he is passionate about Leicester Speedway, which is the subject your posting about (and the reason i don't respond to him in this fashion). There is no substance at all in your posts as far as i can see other than you want to let us all know you told us so. Maybe it's you who needs to take the bow.
