lucifer sam
Here's a report for this meeting from the Scunny viewpoint. It completed an enjoyable early evening's racing, although the news that people were hit with as racing was completed (Lee Richardson's accident in Poland), put a huge dampener on proceedings. STOKE SPITFIRES 16 SCUNTHORPE STAGS 19 (MIDLAND DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE) SCUNTHORPE STAGS picked up a fine 19-16 win in a Midland Development League match that took place in the second half at Stoke on Sunday evening. The key to the Stags’ success was consistent scoring. The Stags provided just two of the six race winners, but conversely they had just two last places. The opening race saw Shaun Tedham lead home Tommy Fenwick, while Lloyd Barrett fell in third place and Simon Allan came through to take the third-placed point. Heat 2 saw two riders take a tumble on the third bend. Jamie Collins slid off on the entry to the turn, and then, independently, Max Clegg fell just a little further around the bend. Collins managed to remount, but Clegg was unable to, and the race was stopped with Clegg’s exclusion. Ross Walter, who had been leading at the time of the stoppage, made no mistakes to win the re-run from Adam Kirby (pictured). An eventful Heat 3 saw the Stags take a 5-0. At the first time of asking, the Spitfires held a 4-2, but then race-leader Collins fell on the third bend, also bringing down team-mate Tedham. With Collins excluded, the re-run saw Adam Kirby lead, but second-placed Tedham fell off in pursuit on the third lap. The race was then awarded as a 5-0 to Kirby and Allan. Walter & Barrett jetted out of the gate for the Spitfires in Heat 4, but Clegg moved inside Barrett on the fourth bend of lap 2 to take second place and restrict the Spitfires to a 4-2. Fenwick, having taken six rides in the previous KO Cup match, had a bike which was very down on power and didn’t complete the final circuit. Again it was the Spitfires who gated in Heat 5, but Kirby moved inside Barrett down the back straight, and Barrett then slid off on the third turn. Tedham won the race, and the 3-3 meant the Stags led 15-14 going into the final race. In Heat 6, Barrett slid off around the first two turns, to leave three riders. Walter looked set to complete a maximum, but Clegg pounced down the back straight of the third lap, moving inside Walter, as the 15-year-old Stag finished his evening in style. Adam Kirby ended up as top scorer for the Stags with a fine 7-point tally. Simon Allan (with Tero Aarnio in his corner) overcame a tough and bruising time in the KOC encounter, with three steady rides in the MDL match and a well-deserved paid 7 score. Max Clegg produced a fabulous ride in Heat 6 to secure victory for the Stags, while Tommy Fenwick (impressive in the KOC match) clearly had machinery issues towards the end of an evening that saw him take nine rides in total. Nevertheless, his 3 points made the difference between winning and losing. Rebecca Parnaby was team manager for the Stags, as Richard Hollingsworth was busy running the show at the coinciding amateur meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Stoke Spitfires 16 – Shaun Tedham 6 (3), Lloyd Barrett 1 (4), Ross Walter 8 (3), Jamie Collins 1 (2). Scunthorpe Stags 19 – Tommy Fenwick 3 (3), Simon Allan 4+3 (3), Adam Kirby 7 (3), Max Clegg 5 (3). 1: Tedham, Fenwick, Allan, Barrett (fell), 69.4 (3-3) (3-3). 2: (Re-run) Walter, Kirby, Collins, Clegg (fell, excluded), 68.6 (4-2) (7-5). 3: (Re-run) Kirby, Allan, Tedham (fell, excluded), Collins (fell, excluded), awarded – no time (0-5) (7-10). 4: Walter, Clegg, Barrett, Fenwick (ret), 70.0 (4-2) (11-12). 5: Tedham, Kirby, Allan, Barrett (fell), 70.1 (3-3) (14-15). 6: Clegg, Walter, Fenwick, Barrett (fell), 70.6 (2-4) (16-19). All the best Rob Edited May 16, 2012 by lucifer sam
