lucifer sam
30 HEAT BANK HOLIDAY SPEEDWAY FEAST HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions commence their home Premier League fixtures at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Bank Holiday Monday (3.00pm), with the highly-anticipated visit of 2008 and 2010 league champions, the Edinburgh Monarchs. The Scunthorpe v Edinburgh clash forms the first half of a mouth-watering double-header, which also features the Scunthorpe Saints in National League Knockout Cup match action against the Stoke Potters. The double-header concludes a busy weekend of action, which also sees both the Scorpions and Saints in league action on Sunday, at Newcastle and Mildenhall respectively. Scorpions’ team boss Richard Hollingsworth said: “We are certainly not going to under-estimate Edinburgh, despite their slowish start to the season in the League Cup. “They are always attractive visitors around the Eddie Wright Raceway. They have a former Scorpion and track specialist Andrew Tully (pictured) in their ranks, and their team contains other riders who can perform around our track. Scunthorpe v Edinburgh is always an entertaining match full of great racing and I’m expecting no different on Monday. “However, if we perform as we are capable, I see no reason why we can’t take the three Premier League points on offer. “Before that, we face the Newcastle Diamonds at Brough Park on Sunday – also in a league match. The meeting was quickly arranged, after Newcastle’s home meeting was washed out last weekend. Newcastle didn’t want two successive blank weekends, so Rob (Godfrey) has agreed that we fill the gap. We will be looking to pick up league points from the meeting.” With skipper David Howe still on the sidelines, as he recovers from a dislocated shoulder, Nick Morris will guest for the Scorpions at Newcastle and the side will operate rider replacement for Howe at the Eddie Wright Raceway for the Edinburgh match. Hollingsworth added “The best guests aren’t available but all six riders are eligible for an extra ride so I don’t see it being a problem. This way you can try and find your four most in form riders rather than the ‘eggs in one basket’ route with a guest”. Monday’s adult admission price for the double-header is £16. It’s just £2 more than a single Premier League meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, for 15 extra heats of action. With the circuit recognised as one of the best racetracks in the country (it has finished in the top two of a poll conducted by SCB speedway referees for the last three seasons), it is a fixture for the speedway connoisseur. “It certainly looks like a cracking afternoon of action, as the Saints match looks like it could also be a humdinger”, commented Hollingsworth. “Stoke are a tough test, with Richie Worrall and Ashley Birks both in their line-up. It’s a cup match, so it’s a case of trying to build up as big a lead as possible for the return at Stoke on Sunday, May 13th. “We have a great heat leader trio of Jerran Hart, Steve Worrall and Gary Irving whilst I can’t wait to see young Danny Phillips and Max Clegg make their home debuts, having seen them ride so many times.” Premier/National League Double Header Admission Prices: Adult: £16.00 Student/OAP: £14.00 Child (10 - 16): £5.00 Child (0 - 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £37 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-16) Match Programme: £1.00 NOTE REGARDING ADMISSION PRICES FOR MONDAY’S DOUBLE-HEADER FOR THOSE WITH A VALID SCUNTHORPE v SHEFFIELD RE-ADMISSION TICKET: Admission prices on Monday for those with a valid re-admission ticket from the abandoned Scunthorpe v Sheffield meeting from April 13th will be as follows: Adult: £13.00 (£3 deduction) Student/OAP: £11.00 (£3 deduction) Child (10 - 16): £3.00 (£2 deduction) Family Ticket £29 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-16) (£8 deduction) Teams for Monday (English unless stated): Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. vog
So, Stoke lose by 5, which considering we only had half a team wasn't bad going! Anyone who went want to comment when they get in?
PhilK
I am sure the 'usuals' will Vog, but that was a fine result without Birks, Pickard and with Ritchie Worrall only scoring 7 from 6! Reade is flying at the moment, and Ross Walter's win in heat 13 over the Worralls and Hart must have been some ride! Thats what happens when your Team Manager spends his Sunday with the Mildenhall gang
Fozzie4388
Just got back wasnt a bad meeting. The track was very slick half way through the meeting and much of it was gate and go after that. Ben Reade, Max Clegg and Tom Young very impressive for their respective teams. One thing i will say is I'm Scratching my head how Danny Phillips is in the line-up for the Saints this year, I know its all about building for the future for the Saints this year but from what i've seen today maybe its a year too early for Danny. What i would say though is If when Olly Greenwood is fit the Saints brought him in for Phillips as they are both 3 pointers, The Saints will be battling for the Playoffs not just next year but this year also. The inside half of the track was pure "blue groove", you could smell the burnt rubber from the stands, and straying off the inside line was like riding on marbles. Despite this the lads from both sides put on a good show. I presume Birks had to pull out due to lack of equipment after his engine went pop in his first ride in the PL match. Scunny missed a trick by putting R/R at No. 4, should have been at No. 2 IMHO . Stars of the show were Reade, Young and a terriffic ride from Walter in Ht.13. Rest of the riders were pretty much as expected. Young Clegg showed promise, but Richie underperformed and was a little too concerned with Tom Young, rather than concentrating on racking up points. It quite often happens that riders appearing in both legs of these double headers run out of steam before the end of the second match . Danny is ready,no doubt,i though he did ok,rode tidy laps,i spoke with his Dad i think had he had wrecked his bike at Mildenhall i think and had to swap to a bike he wasnt so happy with,he a good kid with good backing, and beaten some good riders in the Am meeting this winter, for 15yrs old and not long on a bike, hes in the right place Fair play to all the rookies yesterday, they all did well,Stoke boys included

I believe Sunday was their NL debuts so they need to be given time surely. I think you may be right about Phillips bike Montie, if memory serves he laid his bike down when Nathan Stoneman fell in front of him in heat 7, and there was a collision. June
Thoroughly enjoyed this meeting...first home meeting for the new Saints. Well done to all the team on their 1st win. great stuff. Some BRILL racing between the two teams. Welcome back Gary so pleased to see you in the team ( always my fav rider) you certainly didn't disappoint, still exciting as ever. Ive watched Dan Phillips in the AM meetings, he's a really good rider, he'll get going! ...don't dispair Dan its early days! Tom Young who Ive adopted being welsh lol. You was star of the show. surprised us all I think. A huge well done! Keep it up. I hope Ashley is feeling better. I see on FB that hes been in A & E overnight

Baldy
Sounds like I missed out on a good meeting there. I'm interested on how Rhys and Ross looked. On Saturday you could tell both were feeling their way into riding again and I must admit I though it would be a while before Ross took his first flag but must of rode well to win heat 13. Scunthorpe have some very good youngsters on the go which is great to see. Ben has started really well and showing what we all knew that he can ride in decent company. Held off very experienced pursuers for four laps without puting a foot wrong. For such an inexperienced rider it was an excellent effort. ChubbyChesgire
Nice to see a thread where the fans aren't slagging each others teams off - long may it continue ! Yes I was a bit concerned about Ross and Rhys after seeing them on Saturday, but it seems they are improving which gives us hope. Concerning about Ashley - hope he's ok. griffo
So, Stoke lose by 5, which considering we only had half a team wasn't bad going! Anyone who went want to comment when they get in? Good meeting Vog all the team put in an effort the heat 13 was a cracker Ross outgated the lotof them and hung on to the lead no matter how Jerran Hart tried to get past,Rhys had 3 thirds that were earned .He was clattered in to the fence on the first turn inhis second ride and replaced by Ben who rode brilliant throughout. Richie in his first ride was in my opinion forced into the fence by Young and showed his annoyance but he was excluded the in heat six repayed the compliment and was excluded again then had a flat in another heat. Tony flew in Heat fifteen to win from Irving and Hart.So could have been closer or a win for us. Dont think you were the only stoke fan to miss this good meeting, counting the 4 of us I only saw about 2 other stoke supporters there. Cheers Griffo
vog
Cheers for that. I wish I had been able to go, but unfortunately uni exams take priority. Ah well, hope the lads give a good showing of themselves at the IoW tonight!
tigerblues
Track was incredibly slick after the PL meeting, huge blue groove as mentioned but I did enjoy it, some good racing and as I don't watch as much NL as I'd like to, it was nice to see some different riders... was interested in how Max did and I thought he rode very well, got some points on the board and as always seemed to go about it all very maturely and professionally. He will only get better, it's good to see him getting his chance at Scunny. I liked the look of Ben Reade, first time I've seen him ride and he looks like an exciting prospect. Ride of the meeting had to be Walter in heat 13, holding off a rider like Hart who was giving it literally everything for 4 laps, never expected him to hold on but full credit to the guy. Good to see Tony Atkin still enjoying it and getting stuck in too Hope Ashley Birks is alright, was a shame he had to withdraw.
MrMungo
Phillips looked alright at Mildenhall on Sunday, as did Clegg. I believe Sunday was their NL debuts so they need to be given time surely. I think you may be right about Phillips bike Montie, if memory serves he laid his bike down when Nathan Stoneman fell in front of him in heat 7, and there was a collision. He also went into the airfence at a fair old rate of knots in heat 9 when he avoided irving & Halsey. Either could've caused machinery problems. Phillips looks okay. They develop so quickly at that age, especially if they are surrounded by people who are able to give them solid advice. It won't be long before the scores start to come, especially at home.
