Storming Norman
It feels increasing strange that Kings Lynn team manager Rob Lyon is mentoring Peterborough's top rider Kenneth Bjeerre in the GPs. Even missing Kings Lynn matches to do so. As I watched the GP, I thought would Everton allow David Moyes to mentor Suarez when he's playing for Uruguay? Buster and Jonathan Chapman strike me as very passionate for their club so I'm surprised they have accepted Rob Lyon putting it second. Perhaps Matt Ford could coach Bomber in the GPs? Daniel Smith
Is it really any different to Middleditch having Bomber, Nicholls, Kennett & Woffinden for teamGB over 2 weeks

Bagpuss
They've said they are happy for Rob to do it and add another string to his bow as it were. I think he's due to miss three Lynn meetings and two of those were for the New Zealand GP last month. Rob is one of the best motivators in the sport and its a father in his cap that a GP rider wants him in his corner. *feather

Bagpuss
Rob Lyon should still be GB boss He shouldn't, because he'd be wasting his time. He had a vision for the future which would have taken 5-10 years to bear fruit but the authorities chose a short term and much cheaper way which is of course their perogative. Unfortunately though we'll continue to see Brits struggling on the GP and SWC stages.

JCookie
I thought he helped him in the season he had Middleditch and Havelock there as well? Maybe that was Nicholls thinking about it.

PHILIPRISING
TATUM did spend some time with Scott Nicholls in 2009 but it came to a halt when Scotty decided (as he was entitled to do) that he didn't want to go down the route that Kelvin suggested, which included a special diet, a very strict training regime, some adjustments to his riding style, especially off the start, and a number of mechanical changes. In my own opinion, but one based on first hand knowledge of how Olsen helped Gundersen, Mauger with Nielsen and, indeed, Briggs with Tatum and Adams, just about all of the current crop of SGP riders could benefit from having a top class former or current rider alongside them in the pits assuming that person had the ability and knowledge to sum up changing track conditions, to suggest minor but possibly significant set-up changes, and so on. Yes I would agree with you that there might be an advantage in having an ex-rider who has the experience and knowledge to guide you, so i'm not entirely sure what Lyon does. Shame for Bjerre making such a poor start, a talented rider but probably won't ever win the WC, lacks aggression IMO.
Bagpuss
I think Rob's qualities are more on the mental side of a rider's approach, he is proven at getting the best out of riders in his role at Lynn and I guess Kenneth was impressed enough during their year together at Lynn to want him in his GP corner this season. That said I don't think Bjerre has it in him to be any better than 7th or 8th in the world so I can't see it making too much difference personally. I'm more concerned with the experience helping Rob in his job at Lynn.
