NeilWatson
COVENTRY are pleased to confirm they will be staging the third round of the World Under-21 Championship series at Brandon on Friday August 17. The competition takes place over seven rounds, starting in Italy in July and culminating with two rounds in Argentina in November. The other rounds are in Slovenia, Poland and the Czech Republic. Current King’s Lynn rider Maciej Janowski is the reigning champion, and other recent winners include Darcy Ward and 2011 Coventry star Emil Sayfutdinov. The line-up for the series will be determined via the qualifying rounds which are scheduled to be completed in early June, and former Coventry riders Przemyslaw and Piotr Pawlicki are eligible to take part. Co-promoter Colin Pratt said: “Obviously we don’t know the qualifiers yet, but looking at the list of riders who are eligible it promises to be a really good meeting. “From the form guide abroad at the moment the Pawlickis seem to be doing the business again, and I know Shamek has got the Wild Card for the European Grand Prix. We’re very much looking forward to staging this big FIM event at Brandon.” The last time such an event came to Brandon was in 1991 when the club staged the World Under-21 Final when it was run on a one-off basis. It was won by Danish star Brian Andersen, who subsequently joined the Bees the following season and spent eight years with the club. The August 17 event means the scheduled Elite League fixture with Birmingham will be re-arranged.
