Can You Name These West Ham Riders?

Doesn't look like you've had much help yet, Tony! I have ideas about a couple of them, but I'll have to go through my scrapbooks first.

Okay...

1a - Appears to be Jack Young.

2a - Gerry Hussey in full flight.

8a - Not 100%, but could be Stan Stevens.

11a - Wally Green leading, with Briggo in Y/B. Not sure of the others.

8a I thought it was Stevens or it looked like Norman Straughn but checked Norman didnt ride at all for Ham. I have a very similar picture in the 60s of Norman in action for Poole.

7a I believe is Reg Luckhurst

One of the reasons I don't think it is Reg, is that those white jackets were used while Reg was at Plough Lane.

Agreed but did he come in as a Guest?

I have a copy of this photo and have asked qustions but can only come up with Reg.

Pretty sure it's not Reg Luckhurst.

Those day-glo jackets were worn by the WH riders in 1966, so could it be Ray Wickett?

Don Smith?

That was my first thought, even though I don't think I would recognise him. Hey, you're the "Custom House Kid" - you're supposed to be the expert!!!

With regard to photo 10a, are the West Ham riders Tony Clarke and George Barclay?

DEFINITELY George Barclay on the outside.

Can't help with the others though................................................. Sorry.

Think that Tony Clarke is a good call for his partner, and the Newport rider is Bob Hughes.

  • 2 weeks later...

1a jack young 2acyril rodger 5agerry hussey jack young pat clarke brian crutcher howdy byford 6a jack young eric chitty buddy fuller 7a reg luckhurst 9a colin pratt svere hardfelt

Sorry, but I'm sure that 2a is not Cyril Roger; he never rode for the Hammers, and I don't think that the sport was stricken with a multitude of guests in those days.

I do think that Sverre Harrfeldt is a good call, but I don't know about Colin Pratt.
