stratton
I dont think Greg will win it again in 2012 simply since since 1995 only two riders have managed to win two consecutive titles. T-Rick (1998-1999+2001+2002) and Nicki (2007+2008) but like most others i think we'll see the same top 8 next year as this year but not necessarily in the same order. Crumpie will win it again hopefully, the same top 8 again boring what will Parsloes say about that?
Parsloes 1928 nearly
Crumpie will win it again hopefully, the same top 8 again boring what will Parsloes say about that? I will say that in the current format the same top eight is more or less inevitable... Of course IF the best young rider in the world Darcy Ward had felt it worth his while entering the series there would have at least been that change but sadly as we know not gonna happen... Parsloes 1928 nearly
It's why the format does need to be looked at... I can't conceive of any other sport's world championship where a top young competitor would opt not to even enter it... Peple can (and no doubt shall..!) give loads of reasons why but tell us another sport where this happens before you start down that road of excuses!!! The SGP is NOT a proper World Championship within the definition of other sports' world championships... And that's a FACT..!

I have never thought about the W.C at length really i no you have strong views which are valid.Just say as a outsider looking in like/him Ward or not he is box office and a big draw.Sky are probably the most important thing in speedway at the moment they leave speedway it is doomed.Sky i think really like Ward and he is a reason to promote are sport again the sport losses out yet again exspecially as we know Crump,Gollob, and Hancock wont be around for ever.I was hoping sky would of insisted on a way for Ward to ride in this years series, again speedway misses a trick[oh what a surprise]

The Know
Swindon's Great Dane will walk it. Think you put the wrong word in there and its not Dane Lets hope he does not injure himself again on his motocross bike sorry tree root before the season starts. Be lucky to make top 8 i reckon, but i could be wrong

The SGP is NOT a proper World Championship within the definition of other sports' world championships... And that's a FACT..! Cycling. Riders often opt out of the World Championships be it road or track, in order to preserve form for other events. World Touring Car Championships. Not all the best tin top drivers are in that series for varying reasons. WSB. Some riders miss out due to not finding the funding for a team place or racing in other series for better money. MotoGP. See WSB. So what is your definition of a proper World Championship then Parsloes?

stratton
One he agrees with He has a point though and no one seems to have a answer to it.In my opinion Ward is in the top 8 riders in the world now if not higher its Like having the Champions league without Barca in it.At any sport surely we want to see the best compete thats what its about Ward in the mix a great tonic for speedway again the sport misses a trick. Parsloes 1928 nearly
So what is your definition of a proper World Championship then Parsloes? One in which anyone with the ability to do so has a chance of competing in, in the year in question (obviously something like the FIFA World Cup, qualifying starts in the year before...); and is not kept out of it because it's a 'closed shop' or entirely dependent on money... Rather like the World Championship Speedway had for decades...!

The only problem with that requirment is that I can't think of any other motorsports World Championship that meets your expectations. Does this then mean that all other motorsport World Championships are a farce and that Speedway is actually not alone in being percieved as a joke sport? Hmm, the day we want to be compared to Formula 1 (which though i don't doubt its popularity is an exclusively rich man's sport) is a sad one imho. Speedway has always been an intrinsically working class sport and one, motorsport-wise, based more on skill than on pit staff... Fair enuff if you want it to be different but can I suggest that nothing will hasten our sport's decline more than trying to compete within the big money terms of other (I'd argue) inferior from an entertainment point of view motorsports products... WIE-JA
i think a lot of speedways problems are because it is a working mans sport. I'll agree with that. Speedway sells and promotes itself too cheaply. There is no glamour in its promotion or making the general public believe that they must be there. Look at what has happened in darts. A more piontless and dull sport would be hard to find but it has been promoted very well over the last few years.
