LionsDen
I can't see Leicester anywhere near the top 6. The side looks woeful to me with 4 reserves in it. If even one of the top 3 have an off night then you'll get some right royal hidings next season. I've been saying exactly the same to fellow Lions fans on their facebook pages since the team was concluded. Couldn't agree with you more. No second strings at all means that Kauko, Magnus and Lasse need to ride out their skins every meeting for us to be even competitive. An optimistic bunch of Lions fans seem very excited that Makinen won a couple of races at BP in a very poor end of season individual meeting. However, he remains totally unproven at PL level. I can't see Lambert improving his average from last season when he did so well at Owlerton. Graversen is, and always will be, a 4.5 man and Nielsen is hardly going to be rattling up the points either. Whilst the heat leaders are a lot better, the bottom end of the team looks very similar to last year with more hope than expectation. Sad to say, the Lions have a very long tail - and the final team is an opportunity missed given the early heat leader signings. Mid table, and an improvement on the wooden spoon, is the best they can hope for. And after the processional bore fests we witnessed last season, maybe some racing too? That'd be good. Lovey
... And after the processional bore fests we witnessed last season, maybe some racing too? That'd be good. My first visit was for the 4TT Final, and the racing was quite good - with the first/second bend producing passing, along with the third/fourth for those that mastered it. The thrid/fourth also provided some entertaining incidents with riders consistently missing the turns - if they can sort out the banking on those bends to be the same as the first/second, then it should be a very good racing circuit overall. I think Nielsen could be your trump card at reserve. He may do a Jorgensen type roll and rattle up some points from that position.

I think Makinen has a chance of making it. He certainly showed some real flashes at Mildenhall in 2008 (including going round Ryan Fisher like he wasn't there on one occasion) so there is some reason to be optimistic about him. The bottom end of the team looks better than last year from what I have seen of Lambert and Makinen. I don't know about Nielson but he cannot be worse than Courtney. Makinen and Bjerre don't mind getting stuck in so I am expecting some good racing. I suspect that these new riders also have better equipment and a more professional attitude. T.N.T.
IPSWICH look the strongest with a reserve pairing that could easily end up the season as heat leaders !! Newcastle look strong too with Lindgren and Henry likely to improve their starting averages while Robson and Lemon are a formidable top two Somerset look strong too with a very strong top four while Sheffield, Glasgow, Leicester and Scunthorpe challenging for play off places. Champions - IPSWICH Fours - SOMERSET Pairs - NEWCASTLE Top Rider - BARKER ..... Doyle close by Newcomer - HEEPS and TUNGATE Most Improved - Hopefully JOE HAINES back to what he can be and adding 2-3 points to his average Wooden Spoon - any one from Berwick, Plymouth, Newport and Workington
