Best Visiting Riders At Plough Lane

Nobody from my track Sheffield, but then nobody from Wimbledon was that good around our track.

I remember that Mick Hines was possibly the worst visiting rider around Sheffield that could remember.

Mind you unlike James Grieves he never managed to be injured when his team visited Sheffield. ;)

In my years watching at Plough Lane the best visiting performance I remember was Martin Dixon when he was riding for Middlesbrough in about 1987? He won about 3 races in the match from the back and also won the Silver helmet with an overtake on Neville Tatum. At a track where overtaking was somewhat rare that performance really sticks in my mind.

Uncle Ted may never have won the meeting but always made the rostrum and made me, my family and (bless her heart) Mrs Moon very proud of him xx :approve:

Must say that the Div 2 riders champ meetings in the early 70`s were some of my favourite meetings! even in the years i didnt get to speedway regularly i always tried to get back to see those meetings. The atmosphere was great.Cant say i remember the Canterbury fans much(probably in another part of the stadium ,but those from "Up North" like Berwick and Workington were fantastic!Anyway i bet your uncle is still thinking if only there wasnt an interval he might have won instead of going into a run off with Carl Glover :):D

I am being really ignorant here, but who is your Uncle Ted, Queen Shaz?

Depends on how long you have been a speedway follower Rod as to whether you remember him or not Ted Hubbard rode in the 70's / 80's for Canterbury / Rye House and Hackney. My Hero :D

1966

I thought that was who it would be but.....

I don't mind making daft comments on this forum - and I make plenty of them - but I wouldn't want to be thought ignorant as well!

Sometimes I think maybe I shouldn't tell people he's my Uncle as if I sit back and wait someone will say something sooner or later and I aint had a good scrap for years over him :wink:

He also get's really wound up when I've told him about some of the things that I've said on here he says "omg you dont tell them we're related do you?" but at the end of the day he is who he is and I am who I am, so anything that is said on here comes from me and not any of my relatives (unless stated of course, Dad does like to ask things every now and then!) :approve::lol::rolleyes:

I am sure that he as proud of you being a stirring little.... no, perhaps that's the wrong way to go...

I am sure that he is as proud of you being occasionally outspoken as you are of his exploits on the track!

I'm sure I don't know what you mean either way there Rod :lol::wink:

My one and only uncle was a lawyer - how exciting is that? Not many photographs around of HIM in action. (Well, not unless you count the News of the World ones, but we won't go there...!)
