Probably another Youngster I would have thought...

Definitely another Youngster!!

My Team would be

1. Gary Irving (hopefully will be No1 all season allowing us a choice of guests on bank holidays. there is 3 others i canthink of!!)

2. Adam Wrathall (could be his breakthrough year and has been looking very fast on his new bike this winter)

3. Stefan. Also seems faster and smother this winter.

4. Oliver greenwood. Ideally would be at reserve but liekyl to be the strongest of the 3pters so likely to be in main body

5. Our new signing and if he improves like his potential showed a few years ago should be pushing for Number 1 by end of season

6. Sam woods/Connor Dwer/Jordan tyrer - fresh 3pt rider with second half experience from midlan league/denmark(sam)

7. Raw rookie lets call him the "desparate lightbulb" I wont name him but having seen him in his short time looks like he could have big potential and would love to see him in the team

With the crop of 3pters would also allow us to have a number 8 and taken them to every meeting and potential let them share the rides to get more experience and more riders come through

By the end of the year I would hope adam/stefan /new signing all to be pushing for guest bookings in the prem.

Gosh this thread has excited me (Haven't been able to get down to practice).....Things looking good for the Saints......I like the look of your team bullet-some good youngsters whos names I recognise and I think is well capable of making the grade with plenty of practice and encouragement from the Scunny crew of helpers.

Well the cats out the bag in the speedway star about our new Youngster being Tom Young being signed from newport on a full transfer. A couple of years ago at the U-19 at scunny showed huge potential but seems to have stalled a bit the last couple of years but think if he gets going here could be a heat leader by the end of the year. Welcome to the saints Tom

Parnaby signs up two more prospects

Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints Team Manager Stuart Parnaby has signed two more of the country’s best young prospects for his 2012 side. With club promoter Rob Godfrey having committed the Saints to a two-year development plan Parnaby has been able to secure the signing of 15-year old Daniel Phillips (pictured right) from Middlesbrough and 14-year old Max Clegg (pictured left) from Brighouse.

Clegg has been a regular at the Eddie Wright Raceway ever since the mini-track opened in 2007. Under the tutelage of Wayne Carter he spent hour after hour refining his skills aboard his pit-bike engine powered speedway bike. It has given him great balance and control which will allow him to negotiate the tighter tracks whilst his many outings in the club’s practices, amateur meetings and second-halves will ensure he has the speed to master his home track.

Whilst Phillips only stepped aboard a speedway bike in the summer the club has also played a major part in his development. Like Steve Worrall before him, the youngster has made the switch across from Moto X to riding in practices and amateur meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway and, after winning two novice class meetings, he stepped up to the open class earlier in this month and proved to be very competitive.

The signings bring the 2012 team up to five riders following on from the signing of 16-year old Oliver Greenwood, Tom Young from Newport and his fellow 20-year old and Saints Captain Adam Wrathall. Speaking about the new additions Parnaby said “We would have been disappointed if we hadn’t been able to sign Max. He’s been part of the family here for a long time now so to see him line-up in opposition would have been a bitter pill to swallow. Max enjoys coming to Scunthorpe, knows everyone and feels comfortable around the place. He’s from the same town as me and I actually see him in the park when I’m walking my dog”.

“Obviously I will be there to help him and the same applies to the rest of the side. Danny is another who is under-going a steep learning curve but he has come on so far in such a short space of time there is no doubt he will be ready for the National League when the season starts. Whilst Max absolutely loves riding his speedway bike Danny just loves everything about the sport. His family have committed to some fairly decent kit and he spends so much time in the workshop. He even analyses videos of tracks he hasn’t been to try and get a head start. With the skills and application he has already shown there is no doubt he has potential and we now have five good signings for next year”.

“I’m looking for a number one who wants to ride and not just make money. Some of the money being bandied around in this league is crazy but I’m sure there will someone who needs the opportunity to prove themselves. This is a development league for us so we are not going to jeopardise the Saints’ future by over-paying”.

“It looks like Stefan Nielsen is going to ride at another track for a year but he is still seen as a big part of the club’s future. It means that assuming we find a number one we want two more riders to give us our squad of eight. Obviously we will continue to watch our amateur meetings and see who else comes along and impresses”.

The club’s next amateur meeting is on Saturday 7th January and places can be booked by contacting Richard Hollingsworth via richard@scunthorpespeedway.com or 07832-402167.
