BossMan
If they were youngster,s id agree with you, but they are not. !!. And yes we took stick last year with Ben but he was 17 riding at a higher level ..No comparison... I am primarily concirned about attendences ,no fans , no National league at Rye.. I.have nothing personal against any rider what ever the level ..Will you be coming down reguarly to swell the numbers ....?? Waco mate I’m with you – how many times do we have to say we are not anti young riders or the NL (which is supposed to be a third division and not a training league) but the facts are that unless a team is competitive the supporters will not show up. No supporters mean the end of that club and slowly the end of the NL. I personally feel Len has made a big mistake and will lose some of the support he had for the stand alone NL meetings; my friends are already making alternative plans for those nights. I know the business needs to make a profit but supplying an inferior product is not the answer.

Ask the fans of Newport if your idea works,2010,great NL team, top of the league,How many turned up to watch,Where are they now?? Simple fact is DU NL team will never fill stadium, punters just cant afford it,and the promotion cant afford to fill it with top riders,if Rye dont try and bring some youngsters through,is there any point in running NL at Rye??? secsy1
Please. Please can anyone of you hypocrites explain where all these riders to fill the NL are supposed to come from. On one hand we have everyone complaining about the lack of opportunitys for the British lads, but the majority of you dont want to let them have a ride in the NL. Where prey are they supposed to ride? Oh and dont tell me the AJL,MDL and NJL as these are new developments. What about before and now. If you dont want to watch speedway at NL level dont do it, but dont complain unless you can constructively help solve the problem. Scunthorpe seem to be the only ones who are prepared to let the new ones come through and build their careers, irrespective of attendances. Not a lot of whinging from any fans, only support for all they are doing. Unfortunately it is the Southern based fans who have it wrong, but hey you have to go to be a fan????????????????
Rockets
Agree with you secsy1. I remember Len saying he even made money out of the free meetings through fish and chips and bar sales etc. In those circumstances bring the price down to half. If people wont even bother to pay a fiver to watch ben shane etc then you have to wonder.

Monty how many times do you need to be told the new riders are not youngsters..! I wish they were ..Come down and see how many fans we get for these meetings you might have a better idea of what we are talking about here then.... We have just replaced a heat leader with a 3.50 rider, no disrespect to that rider hes a nice bloke ....But fans at any club would not be happy with that.... Agree with you secsy1. Rockets me old mate they dont sell fish and chips at National league meetings, not viable, not enough fans...but as you say if Len can make a profit out of free entry ?? But i dont believe it ...Now a fiver is a great idea should put more bums on seats . .. Afraid.it wont happen ....
June
Can't help but feel sorry for Len Silver ( don't seem to be able to do anything to please fans ) Like the promotion at Scunny he's trying to give youngsters a chance and find future riders for his prem team. Now I know not everybody is like me who loves this level of racing but I have nothing but admiration for all who runs the AM meetings. Riders of all ages, I don't consider riders in their twenties old. Some start in their late teens but because of the expense and lack of training it takes a long time to get to NL level. At least Len is giving you a PL team as well. Luke Chessell is/was a Scunny asset and Ive watched him racing he's a good prospect I hope you get behind him! GO LUKE YOU SHOW EM!
waco
I sincerly hope all the new guys progress well this season,, my fear is if it doesent happen fairly quickly there will be few fans left to watch them..Len is the boss ,makes the decisions and will stand or fall by them,,it does not mean that i or others have to agree with all of them ,we care passionately about the club we support the teams regularly unlike some posters on here from afar who wont be losing their speedway if we lose national league at Rye......By the way Scunthorpe have been close to losing theirs .so we should not take our speedway or granted...Unfortunately there is a very fine line between bringing on novices,, and i believe a team can carry one,,, two at most if the main body of the team is strong,,,,,,,,and losing supporters.... Chasing youngsters is the name of the game these days! Not like the late good old 1940s when guys like Harold MacNaughton at 38 years and Tom Oakley about the same age came into speedway. Both went on to race at National League Division One level for New Cross and also win England international honours at Division Two standard. waco
I see in the speedway Star the Raiders are tipped to finish bottom of the National league ,,while it is hard to disagree with the pundits ,it is to be hoped that the team will perform better on the track than it looks on paper ,.We still have severall known,, potentially very good youngsters ,and it will be interesting to watch their progress.... Shadders
I'd love to be more enthusiastic about the Raiders and the third tier of speedway in general, but it's not happening for me... I'm sure the young (and not so young) lads would appreciate the support and if This was the only speedway on offer at Rye House I'd be there for every meeting, but for a variety of reasons I'll not be going to many if any NL only meetings at Rye House. I fear you may not be the only one thinking that way,,It is all well and good non Rye people posting on here about giving rookies a chance,,but if no one wants to watch them what is the point ..I fear we wont just get slaughtered away from home either...theres a lot been put on the shoulders of 3or 4 members of the team.... Thats not a bad thing to be honest, makes them step up and be counted no hiding away, good way to see how good there really are There not on there own either looking at some of the teams in the NL Put some presure on them, wont do them any harm if there good enough
Rockets
Tipped to finish below Scunthorpe? Really?
BigDave1
I hope that many Rye House supporters will get behind the Raiders this season as they are the stars of the future. Although these young lads are learning & may not be as fast as their Elite & Premier League counterparts they are just as competitive and need as much support from everyone. They try hard to entertain for little reward, bearing in mind that their equipment cost's a lot of money to maintain and many do it for the love of the sport and the thrill to compete with the backing from their parents and friends. On the whole the Rye promotion have helped by making at least 5 of the Raiders fixtures double headers, which means it will cost fans nothing extra to watch the youngsters progress and give them the support they deserve. Obviously it's everyone's choice to come along or not but every rider from novice to World Champion have cut their teeth in lower tier racing & I for one can remember the likes of Michael Lee for Mildenhall, Mark Loram for Hackney & Jason Crump for Poole making their debut's in second half racing back in the Seventies / Eighties. So you could be watching a future World Champion in the making.
waco
I know it was freezing cold on sat night but after just one race of the second half junior match which included two of the Raiders..The stadium emptied....The apathy shown to this standard of racing is quite worrying for the future of the Raiders ..... You said it Waco, it was freezing. Not surprised that most scurried away to warm up... Not even sure what the standard of these guys is, but I'm guessing it's a level below the NL, so would only keep the most die hard speedway fan hanging around freezing their nuts off, or the equivalant for the ladies! Rockets
Waco i left then but only because it was freezing cold. I'll be there good friday. I also think that we should be more up beat about this team. We have a very good top four and Braddock looks like he has real potential. Oafski
We stayed for three of the races but with the inevitable spills and stoppages it looked like being a long six heats and the lure of the car heater was too great. I shall try and atone for this sacrilige by attending on friday as well.
