Sudden Sam Ermolenko & Rocket Ronnie Correy .... they would take PC & Mort any day of the week :D

Peter Karlsson & Mikael Karlsson around Monmore were untouchable 95% of the time ... the other 5% they had ef

Hans Nielsen & Edgar Stangelands bike ... I am sure when Hans first came over he used to fake ef so he could borrow it for important races :P

But the best pairing of all Sophie Blake & Charlie Webster in a paddling pool full of jelly :D

Better than Collins and Morton not a chance also Phil Collins and Alan Grahame i would put in front of Ermolenko and Correy.

Better than Collins and Morton not a chance also Phil Collins and Alan Grahame i would put in front of Ermolenko and Correy.

Both Sam & Ronnie were excellent starters & very fast when in front, Peter & Chris could not gate for toffee ... & by the time they had got round the first bend Sam & Ronnie would just be a dot on the horizon .... as for Phil & Alan, now I KNOW your having a giraffe :D

At Hyde rd Mort and P.C could give them a start and still pick them off no worries. That was the days when tracks were proper not like they are now gaters paradises. As for wolves always has been a massive home advantage there i always thought Correy was a gating tart .

Basil and Sybil

The Two Ronnies

Blackadder and Baldrick

Batman and Robin

Bill and Ben

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Sonny and Cher

Germany and France

Basil and Sybil ...... Couldnt get on and Fawlty Towers was written by Cleese and Booth ..... Basil and Polly

Two Ronnies ...... One much stronger than the other

Blackadder and Baldrick ....... great on screen partnership but one was a peasant and a servant

Batman and Robin ...... One was a Billionaire, the other was a lodger

Bill and Ben ...... the two men responsable for their voices didn't get on at all and most dialogue used was those two actually swearing in their secret language at each other

Cassidy and Kid ...... didnt do them much good as both were shot ..... same as Bonnie and Clyde

Sonny and Cher ...... Ended in divorce

Germany and France ...... not so good in the 40's

You can add, MORECOMBE and WISE ..... ABBOT and COSTELLO ..... LEMMON and MATTHAU ..... TAYLOR and BURTON

At Hyde rd Mort and P.C could give them a start and still pick them off no worries.

As for wolves always has been a massive home advantage there i always thought Correy was a gating tart .

At Hyde Road I will give in there .... those two were awesome

However Wolves has less home advantage than most, Hyde Road was very much a great home advantage track and there is no wat Monmore can be called Slick compared to Kirky Lane, Lakeside etc

Ronnie was very much about gating and his brilliant switch back on the first turns, but he could pass too ..... but didnt need to many times.

Ermolenko and Correy will go down as a legendary partnership at Wolves just as PC and Mort will at Belle Vue ..... both brilliant in heir day.

Ronnie Moore, possibly - no, probably - the greatest team rider of all time.

Other great team riders would include Norman Parker, Ken McKinlay and Kelvin Mullarkey.

I'm a bit too young to have seen these riders but the best single team ride I have ever seen (and I did see all the big guns of the early 80's) was, quite remarkably, at Scunthorpe in 2005 in an NL match.

Richie Dennis was the Scunny star at the time and was, for his very young (17) age, an amazingly unselfish rider. Against Wimbledon in a league match he and an even younger reserve, Grant Hayes, gated in front of the Wimbledon pair. Dennis stayed with his novice partner and protected him for almost the entire 4 laps, slowing the race down to an astonishing degree that I have not seen before or since. Hayes unfortunately fell on the last lap and such was the Wimbledon rider's (I think it was Scott James) frustration that he went for Dennis after the race. It truly had to be seen to be believed.

Adams-Zagar... superb for Swindon in 2009.

The Morans

Hancock-Hamill

Havelock-Carr

Collins-Morton

Ermolenko-Correy

Holder-Ward

Collins-Grahame

Miller-Jorgensen

Leigh Adams was probably the best team rider i've seen.

Really..

Seem to remember something different happen in 1987 when Ermolenko picked off Morton at Hyde Road as Wolves won 40-38.

for me it has to be ermolenko/ correy and hamill/hancock and when wolves met cradley somebody had to lose ,those were the days

Totally agree.

For those talking about Correy being a gating tart.. Sure, most of his races were won from the gate, however he broke the track record at Monmore in 1990 when he was 4th entering turn 3. Passing Shawn Moran, Bobby Ott and Richard Knight in the process.

Bwitcher i am on about a peak Chris Morton 1978 to /85, Ermolenko wouldnt of lived with him 1987 Mort was way past his brilliant best .Also PC 1974/80 no contest also,Ermolenko for me was one of the most unimpressive americans for me did well but well overachieved and i rate alot of his collegues higher.

Really!?! Of that era I'd rate him behind Penhall sure. But I'd rate him alongside S Moran and Sigalos as the next best, and ahead of the likes of King. K Moran, Schwartz etc. from that era.

For me the most unimpressive Americans were Larry Kosta and Eddie Ingels, and guess which two the Aces signed! (of course, they did subsequenyl get it right with Frria and the Morans).

I would rate Penhall, Kelly and Shawn Sigalos higher certainly, as well as a peak Autrey 78/79 at least on par with Ermolenko.I dont go on what they won totally he did well to win a world title and had a good career. If you went by silverware only Penhall i suppose would be in front of him. Graham Warren, Adams are great examples of why i dont go by that notion .Sumner Mcknight is the worst american i see ride ever.

No if i am honest was a massive Autrey fan one of my sons was named after him, and would rate higher than Ermolenko.See Ermolenko quite a bit when he rode with Mike Lee god he was erratic so never really took to him.Had a great career so fair play to him., Autrey was the opposite a silky smooth rider.

ah, so you're basing your opinion of him on his performances in his first season in the British League...
