dukes
Going back when we had a team at Halifax their was a trend to bring over some pretty dodgy foriegn riders. For what ever reason they got preference over some good juniors who became lost to the sport. We once had a fellow called Jan Graveningen, or Mr.Magneto trouble. Remember one meeting he never made it to the tapes, the announcer (fantastic one at that,Duggie Adams) had us in stiches.
Guest Rod King
In the late 1960s, Glasgow had a rider called Nils Ringstrom who would have flashes of brilliance followed by long spells of inadequacy. He started off riding a brand new Jawa bike which it was said that the promotion had bought him. Beautiful - grey frame and Jawa blue tank and mudguards. Nils was ill or injured or something, disappeared for a few weeks, and when he came back he'd painted the bike white. With household gloss paint! What a mess! (and the bike wasn't any better!) Another one season wonder!
