Dream Team ? No- It's Tuesday In Vetlanda

Recommended Posts

Vetlanda have announced their team for the 2012 Elitserien. It's as follows.

Jaroslaw Hampel

Jason Crump

Emil Sayfutdinov

Thomas H Jonasson

Martin Vaculik

Leon Madsen

Ty Proctor

One of our Swedish correspondents says "This is okay, but other teams will be as strong".

Yikes

Regards. Alan.

With a team like that you are looking at a wage bill of roughly £15,000 - £20,000 a meeting plus travel costs and then the cst of running the stadium, so in all around £30,000 probaly.

At £15 a head for adults you are looking at needing 2,000 paying adults to break even at least, plus then you have the costs of paying riders for away meetings, adding probably around £15,000 again. So 1 home and 1 away meeting would cost roughly £45,000 which then takes it to a break even crowd of 3,000 for every meeting.

This is only a very rough figure and you could easily be looking at increasing the figure to over 4,000 each week to make a profit or make it woth while for a promoter to contemplate putting such a team together.

How many tracks in Britain can boast a crowd of 2,000 each week ? ...... I would hazard a guess at roughly four or five at most and therefore most tracks would be losing roughly £20,000 a meeting if they had such a team over here ..... thats around £1,000,000 a season in the red.

Even Roman Abromovich would think twice about losing that sort of money each year !

NOTE; Only one Swedish rider in the line up !!! .... Letting the young Swedes learn their trade in the lower leagues first and not forcing them to ride in the top league ;)

The home team pays both home and away riders; away riders being paid at flat rate and any extras being made up by the away team. It still roughly equates the same though as the bill goes on the home meetings.

Crump alone can't be far off £1k a point, meaning that his wage bill could be around £15,000 per meeting.

It's not a perfect scenario, at least for me. Maybe I'd feel differently if I were a Vetlanda fan but that doesn't say "team" to me so much as "bunch of riders". Again, possibly because I'm British-based, but most EL teams have more of a "club" feel to them.

Eh? It says fantastic team to me! And what a great bunch of riders! In the current economic climate we couldn't afford to put anything like that out - but we can all dream. What we do have is affordable but just not "Elite"!

I should add to my opening post the following from "Anders"

" One should remember that two Swedes must be included in the line-up, and at least one of them being an U21. Also, there's a maximum average limit to consider. To make a a general comment, Elit Vetlanda's line-up would look something like:

Base: Hampel, Crump, Sayfutdinov, Jonasson

Option 1: Vaculik/Ruud/Madsen + Proctor and Thorssell at reserve

Option 2: Two of Vaculik/Ruud/Madsen + Lindqvist "

Whichever way you "slice and dice it" the top 4 + any 3 should ensure a smile on the faces of the home supporters after heat 15 is done and dusted.

Personally i think this will pay off in crowd levels and surely the other teams will welcome a Vetlanda visit with long line-ups at the turnstiles. Fascinated to see the other line-ups as they emerge. Roll on 2012. Regards. Alan.

As astonishing as the Vetlanda team is, I would still say that the Indianerna team is stronger overall, whilst Piraterna could be stronger still depending on their final two riders

Indianerna

Kenneth Bjerre

Joonas Kylmakorpi

Antonio Lindback

Niels Kristian Iversen

Piotr Protasiewicz

Rune Holta

Piraterna

Greg Hancock

Piotr Pawlicki

Przemyslaw Pawlicki

Linus Sundstrom

Chris Holder

Two incredible lineups! :o

Ok, got those lineups off the Swedish 2012 season thread, still will be two amazing lineups!

they aren't real lineups ;) i just put the riders in as they are presented as signed by the teams.

Each team have 7+2 riders available plus additional 0,5 average riders which does not take up squad space.

This is only a very rough figure and you could easily be looking at increasing the figure to over 4,000 each week to make a profit or make it woth while for a promoter to contemplate putting such a team together.

Would the income come from only attendence, that would never be possible. Sponsorship is a major factor, of course.

Good luck to Poole and Eastbourne in the Champions League against that lot

Lucky for Poole and Eastbourne as Elit Vetlanda weren't good enough to qualify for that then. :) However, with Piraterna and Indianerna instead, it won't get easier. Both have awesome looking line-ups!

It's not a perfect scenario, at least for me. Maybe I'd feel differently if I were a Vetlanda fan but that doesn't say "team" to me so much as "bunch of riders". Again, possibly because I'm British-based, but most EL teams have more of a "club" feel to them.

As an Elit Vetlanda fan, I can't see that squad as a problem.

In 2012, Crump will start his 8th season with the club, Hampel his 7th and Vaculik his 4th. Jonasson will ride his 8th 500cc season with Elit Vetlanda, after stepping up from the club's 80cc scene. Thorssell (guest rider in the 2012 season) and Lindqvist have also stepped up from the Elit Vetlanda 80cc team and guest rider Ruud, who is fairly local, spent three seasons with the club in 2004-06, winning two league titles.

With Kolodziej opting out of Sweden in 2012, Sayfutdinov was an excellent choice by the management. I've not been his biggest fan over the years, I must admit, but he will create a buzz around the team, which also should crave for revenge after missing out on a medal this season. Being a high profile scorer, his new fans will soon forget his mischiefs in the earlier parts of his career.

Fans are fickle, because if a new rider does a good job for their team, they'll soon forget how he used to score heavily against their own team in previous seasons. Hey, Rune Holta was the arch-villain in Målilla when he rode for us (Elit Vetlanda), but the Dackarna fans quickly accepted him when he started winning meetings for them upon his arrival, and the same fans who hated him seasons before, they loved him to death when riding in the "right" colours, and scoring points.

There are always riders who gets caught in the numbers game of the maximum average limit, and Patrick Hougaard and Damian Balinski are the ones to go this off season. It's always a shame if you want to continue with the same riders as the year before, but we've been down this road before (having to release riders due to the limit), and riders know it will happen. Madsen and Proctor are new to us, but they fit within some potential line-ups, so welcome to them! Perhaps they can be mainstays in Vetlanda for years to come, you'll never know...

As astonishing as the Vetlanda team is, I would still say that the Indianerna team is stronger overall, whilst Piraterna could be stronger still depending on their final two riders

Within the current rules, their line-ups will probably look something like this;

INDIANERNA: Bjerre, Kylmäkorpi, Protasiewicz, Lindbäck, Holta, Andersen, Thörnblom (junior)

PIRATERNA: Hancock, Sundström, Prz. Pawlicki, Janowski, Holder, Pi. Pawlicki, Rosén (junior)

As you say; "Two incredible lineups!"

Regarding the costs aren't Sweden employing a salry cap this year after a few of the teams got into financial trouble?

Yes. For the regular season, it's a cap of 2,900,000 SEK for the club to cover riders' wages (points money) and travel expenses. Signing-on isn't included. Of course, a company can still provide direct sponsorship to a rider in a club, but the positive thing is that it's kept out of the club's finances.

Secondly could Vetlanda be getting some help from Red Bull as their top 3 are all Red Bull sponsored riders.

AFAIK, not a penny.
