New Breed Of 3 Pointers For 2012 Season?

Looking at the 2011 averages (Issue 26) for the 9 remaining NL sides, 7 of them are over the 40 point limit, 4 of them considerably so!

With that the case, there are going to have to be a number of changes in the NL teams for 2012 and clubs will surely be looking for 3 point reserves that have potential to improve.

Whilst there are riders around the 3 mark such as Widman, Blacklock, Stoneman, Freemantle, Mullins, Chessell, Andrews and Young plus the two most promising I saw last season Tom Stokes and Ben Reade.

But there are not that many around so who will be the new 3 pointers for 2012?

Possibly Tim Nobes at Stoke, but who else?

Any suggestions?

Had a similar conversation about a month ago, and we came up with about 12-15 possibilities.

Some are probably ready now, others maybe not, but we won't know until they are given the chance.

Dan and Oliver Greenwood are 2 of the better 3 pointers around, I'd imagine. Connor Dwyer looked good at Lakeside. Heard good reports about Trevor Heath. Jack Kingston won a heat in his first NL meeting at Lakeside. Will be interesting to see how Martin Wrathall adapts to the shale, too. Guys like Adam Kirby, Sam Woods, Adam Portwood, Lloyd Barrett aren't that far off being NL standard for next year, too.

There's various possibilities out there.

Both Heath and Dan Greenwood had shown plenty of promise prior to leaving the sport.

Heath rode for Mildenhall in their 2006 CL side and looked to have potential. He then dissapeared from the scene somewhat but looked ok when racing at Mildenhall this season v Milton Keynes in a second half, although to be fair the opposition wasn't to NL standard. If he wants to ride this coming season I would think a few sides may be interested in him.

Sam Woods has been riding in Denmark and I understand he has improved considerably for the experience :approve:

actually i have to disagree there mr mungo all of them riders in there are all ready for the next step up to the 3.00 mark next year and i think a couple of them will give the national league a shock next year.

Brandon Freemantle has done well this year and he ahs been able to just get on with it. I think the best thing to do with these lads who have no previous NL experience is to do just that just let them ride and not big them up too much because then they start to feel the pressure.

Jamie Dixon or Adam Sheppard?

Jamie has signed for Milton Keynes Knights, riding in the Academy league, racing home matches at Rye House I believe.

Below is a quote from the MK Knights Facebook page:

20yr old Jamie Dixon becomes the latest signing for the 2012 MK "Alpine Cooling" Knights

Jamie, from Weymouth, started riding speedway 4 years ago as mascot for the Weymouth Wildcats and went on to ride in amateur meetings and a "guest" apperance for the Buxton "Hitmen" in the old Conference League

At the start of the 2011 season, Jamie crashed heavily breaking his leg and only returned to track action in mid-August! Towards the end of the season, whilst helping the US Touring team, Jamie made a "guest" appearance for the Long Eaton "Invaders" @ Leicester and went on to wear a "Knights" race jacket in the handicap meeting that the US team arranged @ Leicester in October

Heard good reports about Trevor Heath.

Saw him race to a faultless maxumum for the MK Knights v Raiders second half mini match at Rye House this year where he rode to a faultless maximum... I had a chat with him after I noticed him talking with John Sampford. Being curious I asked if John had approached for a team spot next year. Trevor wouldn't give a positive answer, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him line up as a Raider. Based in West Sussex I believe, so travel won't be much of an issue.

Would be great if someone would give Mark Baldock a chance. As far back as 2008 Mark was impressing big style at Iwade beating Tom Perry into third place (ie Mark was second behind the Dutchman Benjamen Borgers) in a Dragons indiv meeting. And of course this year Mark won the season-long Lydd Club Championship. :approve:

Not the youngest but Mark deserves a chance alongside the teenagers...

He made his NL debut for Hackney in the 'awks last meeting this year and I think if Cookie does run a junior Hammers outfit in the NL, Baldock will get his chance...

I see King's Lynn have named a new 3 pointer: Lewis Rose

Not a name I'm familiar with, can anyone tell me a little bit about him?

Yes mate he is a good friend of Lewis Kerr and is making the switch over to Speedway this season from Motorcross.
