SCB Posted April 28, 2012 Report Share Posted April 28, 2012 The continued climb of Shielfield Park toward being one of the UK’s premier speedway venues will be taken to a new level on Saturday, June 16th, with the FIM/BSPA Grand Prix Qualifying Event, featuring world-class riders from a dozen nations. “Berwick have shown many other clubs the way forward in recent years,” stated a BSPA spokesperson. “They have the first polyfoam fence in their League, a greatly-improved racing surface, a well-respected standard of meeting presentation and – following recent inspection – full FIM approval to stage international events of this nature”. While a ‘normal’ event would have a couple of local lads on stand-by, the importance of this ‘biggest ever’ meeting can be emphasised by Team GB manager Neil Middleditch having named Danny King (brother of Bandit Jason) and a man who certainly knows the best way around Shielfield in Olly Allen as his nominated reserves for the event. Already nominated for the ‘biggest speedway event ever staged at Berwick’ are Davey Watt and Sam Masters of Australia and British stars Chris ‘Bomber’ Harris and Tai Woffinden. Finland will send Tero ‘The Hero’ Aarnio and Argentina have named teenage sensation Facundo Albin alongside Emiliano Sanchez. The German representative will be Christian Hefenbrock. Sponsorship prospects for this event are naturally disappearing like the hottest of hotcakes – to grab a heat, rider or hospitality package, contact Julie Newton on 07840-998845 at the earliest opportunity. Still to come are the names of the riders from Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Holland, the Czech Republic and two from the USA. The event is the most-prestigious ever presented at Shielfield Park, and local groups are already taking full advantage by investing in fence advertising and taking up the limited availability of Heat, Rider and Hospitality packages. To ‘get in on the act’ before it is too late, prospective sponsors and/or advertisers should contact the club’s Commercial Manager Julie Newton (Julie@berwickbandtis.co) And we wonder why British Speedway is struggling. TBF, could have just gone with the usual speedway thing of sticking an "o" on the end of his name, making his nickname "Teroo". Speedway people are not that original when it comes to nick names, it's always stick a "y" or an "o" on the end of the name. Craig saul at Rye gives some of their rider some amusing nicknames but at least he tries to make an effort! "Mr Big Stuff" is better than the totally original, "Neathy" for Chris Neath. Listened to this guy a few times at Berwick and does make you wonder why he's there. I once thought about if he was at a football match, the announcers there give concise, short pieces of information, imagine how somewhere like Old Trafford or the Emirates would take to him droning on about an upcoming Cup match or the latest substitution?! The BSPA -- or maybe SCB -- have put one of the (very few) allocations at a club which, God knows, has improved just about everything at it over the past few years. When -- are where -- else in the north would we see a meeting of this stature. Lighten up and support the sport. But we have threads elsewhere on the forum about helping the kids and questioning why British Speedway is in a mess. So to not complain when we see something thats not helping only makes us part of the problem. Yes, well done to Berwick on getting the meeting but it doesn't mean things can be bettered. Nothings been mentioned at any Berwick home meeting so far this season reguarding admission prices,if and when it is,Im sure it will be posted on here.For PL meetings an adult pays £14-50 and £2 for a programme,but you`d think there will be an incease on that. To continue, I asked this question at Berwick two weeks ago, and the official reply was that it won't be ticketed, but that the Berwick promotion have no control over pricing or admissions. The event is an FIM meeting, being promoted by the BSPA on behalf of the SCB! In effect, it is a 'shared event' like the PLRC is at Sheffield. The Berwick promotion don't set the price nor do they get to keep the money! Probably - I have no idea, I'll leave that for you to mull over. The fact that you seemed to be genuinely excited at the prospect of a Pole refereeing the meeting suggested that knowing his name (evidently beyond the coffin dodgers with microphones to pass along) would be of interest to you, if no one else. The listing of he other officials on the FIM website provided more information. The repeated churning out of the same information on every "media release" will simply result in anything new being buried and missed by those in the media too busy to plough through a Year 8 copy & pasted composition excercise.
