fatface
Something new to get our teeth stuck into and maybe even a possible topic for Tony Mac to cover in Backtrack? Who do people see as our sport's greatest rivalries? Here's my quick off-the-head run down: MAUGER - BRIGGS An on-track one that I suspect still rumbles on today as businessmen MAUGER - OLSEN Classic master v pupil rivalry that covered not only World Championship tussles, but also memorable battles for league supremacy with their repective clubs CRAVEN - FUNDIN Too young to have seen either. But from what I have read and heard, two contrasting but well-matched foes. I'd like to hear some witnesses put some flesh on the bones WOLVES - CRADLEY Those is the West Midlands can articulate this one much better than me. GLASGOW - EDINBURGH A clash that became must-see for me when I was a student in Scotland. The dislike was evident with the naive experiment of the Scottish Monarchs racing at Shawfield in the early 90s. PENHALL - CARTER Possibly the most heated of the them all, which included probably the most controversial incident in our sport's history Be good to hear others thoughts :-)

richiej95
Not really a rivalry, but the battles Chris Harris and Freddie Lindgren have around Monmore are always a joy to watch

Deano
WOLVES - CRADLEY Those is the West Midlands can articulate this one much better than me. I was fortunate to see quite a few of these during the Hancock, Hamill, Cross, Ermolenko, Correy, Karlsson era during the nineties. It always felt better at Monmore as the crowd was more mixed. Two very evenly matched teams on the night could bring on some very heated races. Karlsson sticking his middle finger up at the Heathen faithful on the first turn after a win and usually getting a few waving back in return.. From what I recall, it was also nearly me vs Mrs Buzz Burrows after the match, but you interjected before I said anything else to save me from a beating. lucifer sam
Deffo 2nd fiddle to Swindon v Reading, now that was a rivalry. Dekker, problem is these days, we know you're on a constant wind-up. Once went to a Reading v Swindon match expecting a good atmosphere - it was like a library. lucifer sam
Swindon-O****d...only time I've seen a mass brawl at a speedway match. Was that the night that Dugard and Karger had one of their semi-regular on-track scuffles, and then there was a huge barney at the pit gate when Oxford refused S***don a victory parade? Made the front page of the local paper. All the best Rob Edited November 4, 2011 by lucifer sam

Made the front page of the local paper. All the best Rob Dont think Dugard/Karger was on the bill, was it not the night Evitts/Goodwin guested? It all kicked off before the meeting with Oxford banning Evitts from coming into pits until John Whittiker put the Crapper in his place. Seem to remember Wigg ended up with a broken collar bone after he and Goodwin had a coming together? Also remember Evitts staring down some oxford rider in one race that got slower and slower but the kid wouldnt go near Evitts, maybe ali something or other. Heat 14 was a blood and thunder where Chessell ended up in the pits gate fence and Kojak started the riot after he pulled Andrew Silver off the back of Hellsen's bike. RE the local rag, nothing in swindon paper nor the star about it, [any comment on that Mr Rising? ] and the Crapper was never allowed onto the mic at swindon the week before swindon were at oxford ever again. Seem to remember a blood and thunder Heat 14 where Chessell ended up in the fence and Kojak started the riot after he pulled Andrew Silver off the back of Hellsen's bike. Kojak was a star. He used to get the Swindon fans going a treat. Pretty sure Dugard and Karger also clashed on that night - they normally did at some point of the evening. EDIT: Here we go: found the report from the Oxford Mail - Dugard and Karger clashed in Heat 13. Dugard excluded, rode through the tapes in disgust. You're right about the incidents in Heat 7 (Wigg/Goodwin) and Heat 14 (Chessell/De'ath).
