Parsloes 1928 nearly
Well, like others I always thought this way of dividing up the Sheffield and Scunny names was rather odd... But I understood the matrix being used: if Owlerton staged the away NL fixture then the home team in the 'return' branded the visitors as Sheffield and similarily for the EWR... So that's worked all year.. But come on, at the end of the day this side IS a Scunthorpe/Sheffield combined side (listed that way coz alphabetical!) and surely the record books (assuming they hold onto win the title today...) will show it that way. So surely the time has now gone to call the side Scunny today merely because the first leg of the Final was staged by them... It IS a combined side and both sets of supporters (saints and Prowlers) should feel equally entitled to call the side (of the edge of glory) as theirs... I think the majority of supporters already do - it's others - on here - who question it... Before 2005 some Scunthorpe supporters had attended Sheffield for years and, for many of them, that never changed - even when Scunthorpe went PL... though it must have made local derbies interesting . This season has probably been much the same as any other with the added opportunity/interest for supporters to visit and watch at NL level. I'm sure that it will be recorded as a Scunthorpe?Sheffield team (although I do like the combined Scunfield name - and it doesn't give some forums 'hiccups with 'that' hidden word ) Good luck to 'The Saints' this afternoon. Even a draw - (like my other Saints team - football )would ensure them winning the NL Play off final

It's only right if i point out that when it came to the semi-finals (the matches during the season were hilariously variably labelled) the BSPA had listed - as i mentioned in a previous thread; Belle Vue v SCUNTHORPE SHEFFIELD v Belle Vue So which of all the previous naming explanations account for that??? I must strongly add that like others i think the combined Scunthorpe/Sheffield idea is great and extremely worthy if it gets riding experience for youngsters. I just wish the promoting tracks had received even more support than people could afford.

I don't remember you bringing it up more than 5 times a day. Such earth-shattering decision making as what to put in the programme notes that no one reads, I'm just surprised that Sheffield fans weren't to be found outside Scunthorpe on Friday with placards & banners demanding equal status for their alphbetically - challenged representation. Ok i really don't want to extend the pointing out of the farcical elements. It's one of life's great ironies that Morecambe & Wise were taken from us before such tumblin', hilarious hi jinks could have provided them with such a rich vein of material. For someone as pedantic, doesn't your last comment suggest you would have been in favour of people becoming in debt to show their support for the team / teams / town / city respesentatives / club / clubs? Are your fascinating postings going to exceed comments about the actual meetings by as great a margin as they did with the semi final? And yet folk persist it's the rulebook that drives the hoardes of new fans away - nothing to do with their coming into contact with bobble hat wearing, nylon clad obbsessives with their multicoloured pens & spreadsheets
greyhoundp
Meanwhile whilst all this is going on, the most unbelevable comeback has happened, log in to updates folks, you wont believe what you see, cant believe after 12 races Scunny have just 16 points, but as they say, seeing is believing. Bagpuss
Such a shame that the Scunfield lads have frozen a bit on the day all credit to the Fen Tigers though.
DiamondsRock
Well done Scunny / Sheffield! About T/R's were removed from aggregate competitions.
jonesy
Champions! This has been nerve wracking just following the updates. It must have been unbearable at the track. Congrats to The Saints but great credit to The Tigers for almost pulling off the fightback. Hope everyone enjoyed the meeting. As a plus there was mention of a large crowd. greyhoundp
Mildenhall 92 Scunfield 93. Must have been tremendous to have been there, Scunny needed a 5-1 in the last Heat to get a Victory from the Jaws of defeat, and Richie beat Cameron by centimetres, to give them that win. Well done to the Dual Team NL Champions for 2011, commiserations Mildenhall, but you have a nice KO Cup to make up for it, so everyone is happy. Damon
What happened today probably shouldnt have !! but what a meeting, it was unbelievable. Obviously to get so close and to then just lose was difficult to take, but all credit to Scunthorpe. Mildenhall can be very proud of themselves. squall
So a two legged playoff final produces 2 of the best meetings people have seen all season and is decided on the line in the 30th heat? How can ANYBODY knock the playoffs after it entertains like that. The PL was over (realistically) over a month ago and we've just gone through the motions. A big well done to both Scunfield and Mildenhall for providing such a fantastic end to the season.

PhilK
If ever there was glory in defeat then today was the day! Those I stand with were all hopeful, no more, of holding onto our unbeaten home record. What followed was incredible, some brilliant racing as well despite the score. Mildenhall gave their all today, and to go down by just one point isn't easy to take, but when you look at what has been achieved this season, The KO Cup, an air fence, brilliant racing week after week, top presentation, and a team and promotion to be proud of, then we feel like winners to Mildenhall speedway has come so far since the dark days of last summer, and this is only the beginning. Congratualtions to Scunthorpe/Sheffield on winning the Play Offs, and I do hope you are back in 2012. The NL is a great product and would be poorer without you EDITED TO ADD: Just read Adz comments on the updates, and yes you would go a long way to see a better race than Heat 10 Edited October 23, 2011 by PhilK
