BossMan
Ben Barker pulled out of the 16 lapper at Ipswich tonight due to injury, so we are looking at no Woffinden/Barker (injuries) and possibly no Bridger due to machinery. Certainly be interesting to see the lineup come 6pm Sunday... and the crowd attendance. I certainly won't be there, maybe some enthusiasm will be rekindled for 2012... I see Barker rode last night so can we assume he will be there tomorrow? Will Rye do the decent thing and release the full riders list today? If they do then I may just force myself to go
waco
I have decided to state that i am going to this meeting, not that anyone needs to know that,,anymore than i need to know who is not going to the meeting..Which on Rye threads seems to be the main topic of conversation these days, its getting boring.Theres a considerable number of factors that go to make a good meeting not just the names on the programme and we dont even know all those yet..The main fact in this day and age with speedway everywhere is support it or lose it..End of story... Nobody wants to lose speedway, however people need to have reason to go to meetings, Len pretty much said after releasing Doyley earlier in the year "it's my way or the highway" and not only have the fans voted with their feet, he has been proven wrong. There is no feelgood factor at Rye and that is not right, I used to wish time away until the next Rye meeting, this year I haven't as much as I love the club and the sport. As for the Ace of Herts, not announcing the field in advance is obviously going to effect the crowd, people will be going to watch Woffinden, Barker and Bridger and could end up with (no disrespect meant) Hazelden, Hopwood and Evans. It's not awe inspiring.
waco
All is not great at Rye for various reasons and yes there have been serious mistakes made ,but the track has been improved and recent meetings have seen better racing for it,.Falling attendences are however hardly going to improve things such as what can be afforded to assemble next seasons teams,,We can all moan about things we think are wrong ,we may be right ,But at the end of the day without all of us continuing to support the teams regularly .Speedway as a professional sport will either die or be reduced to the lowest affordable level..Whats it to be ? ,its basicly in the hands of the supporter.. Trust me when I say that I want Speedway to continue at Rye and indeed want the sport to grow however, whilst I understand what you are saying it's Len who has to make changes before he can expect supporters to return. He never made any attempt to apologise for his comments earlier this year and some supporters took him at his word and stopped coming. I can list loads of things that are wrong in my honest opinion but I doubt even half of them will change. This meeting is typical of how Len see's things, stuck in the 60's with his attitude and no information being passed onto the paying customers. He had a great chance to end the season with a big meeting and give supporters a reason to return next year. With 24hours to go we are not even sure who is riding. It's the business that has to attract the customers and not up to the customers to support a business that is failing.

Complete rubbish. We've given great backing since the return to the PL, but the last two/three years has seen Silver do things on the cheap while putting prices up and then topped it off this year when he basically told the fans to f off. You would have to be a mug to keep supporting Silver after that and I and alot of fans haven't. We must have been averaging over the thousand mark in average crowds in 05, 06 and 07, but poor sides with the same old faces returning and no real racers, built well under the limit, has pissed lots off and they have gone forever I'm afraid and Silver will never get them back because of his arrogant and stubborn attitude. To blame all this on supporters and tell them to support Rye whatever Silver does is very naive. Silver has one last chance to save the club by ripping the side apart next season and starting again. Nelson and Neath should be the only riders returning. If he employs the same sort of dull side on the cheap the club will cease to exist or will have to be a NL club only. Have always thanked Silver for bringing us back to Rye, but his time was up at least two years ago and it needs someone with fresh ideas and less of an attitude to take it over. The place is a goldmine for someone with a bit of enthusiasm and ambition.

If my grandson was racing I'd go to every meeting he was in, even if I wasn't a fan. Totally agree, Use it or lose it. Disagree with both of you and agree 100% with everything that Chris said. In these austere times some of us less fortunate to have plenty of disposable cash have to make decisions... Our choice was between a poor looking meeting with a lack lustre line up against a delicious meal in our favourite Turkish restaurant. It was put to the vote and the restaurant won hands down! Whenever I've had course to complain in a restaurant I've never been told, "if you don't like it, don't come"... I'm fed up of being taken for granted, along with many others judging by the sparse crowds this season. See you in 2012, hopefully with a exciting looking line up and a better attitude from the promotion. I won't hold my breath though Edited October 29, 2011 by Shadders
Chris
It's sad I'm afraid when loyal fans are pissed off so much they stop going. Just thinking back to the sides in 05 & 07. Robbo(an absolute crime by Silver he wasn't bought back to the club), Ed Kennett, Danny King, Tai Woffinden, Adam Roynon, Stefan Ekberg etc. The first two an absolute joy to watch paired together at 1 & 2 and used to pray they would miss the start and pick the opposition off. The only rider that has got the juices going in the last few years was Linus last season, who was a pleasure to watch. Silver needs to get back to signing up the best young talent in the country and overseas if he wants the fans back.

crazysue
After reading the thread, my question appears to be an impossible task but ask it I must.... Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the updates site? If so, could you please either leave a message here or send me an email or pm. Thanks

waco
The final line up should have been announced by now it really is not good enough an will no doubt effect the attendence..

BossMan
Ridiculous – less than 8 hours before tapes up and still no news on who is riding. I think Len will be lucky to get 300 people today.

Baldyman
Was coming to this if a few decent riders on show. Len is really not doing himself any favours. Strange way to run a business.
phillipsr
Just a joke was coming today with 7 other people none of us now coming as we have no idea who's riding that's over 100 pound down on the gate. 6 of the people were new to speedway I don't imagine any of them will bother again no wonder speedway is dying on it arse
waco
I now have it on good authority that with the exception of Tye Woffinden the other riders already named will be riding in the meeting at Rye tonight at 6pm so should still be an attractive Ace of Hearts... Bryn
Have received the following and been asked to post same here: Rye House Speedway Press Release Ace of Herts Update Rye House promoter Len Silver and team manager John Sampford have been forced into a last minute scramble to fill two spots in the season ending Ace of Herts championship at Hoddesdon following the late withdrawal of two competitors. Plymouth star Ben Barker, meanwhile, has been taken to hospital for an operation, with no additional details available at time of writing. The 12 rider field otherwise includes Lewis Bridger, Olli Allen, Kevin Doolan, the 6 Silver Ski Rockets and Ben Morley.Additional to the main event, the night will feature the King of Herts Short-track event, a giant fireworks display and the Me Rocket award in the Longbar at the conclusion of play. The action gets underway at 6pm tonight.
