manchesterpaul
A Tuesday without our beloved Swedish Speedway is like fish without chips, bangers without mash etc. I just printed off a blank racecard but somehow it's not the same. Ghostwalker
Why no speedway tonight? Is it due to the football ? Several reasons i think. Champions league was originally intended to be held on this day. Sweden vs. France in the Euro 2012 I also believe that without the backup days (another one during the London Olympics) the Season would be a few weeks shorter and it would end to(?) early. Ghostwalker
WIth Jarek Hampel out with a broken leg, i would assume that Janusz Kolodziej will return to Elit Vetlanda. Its now confirmed that Kolodziej will replace Hampel while Jarek is injured. http://www.elitvetlanda.se/index.php?page=news&stage=1&id=2067

You quote attendance figures for Sweden. Unlike the UK Sweden publish their attendance figures. http://www.svemo.se/.../Matchresultat/ There have been 27 Elitserien meetings this season. Total attendances. 69370. Average attendance. 2569. High. 5273. Low. 961. 4 meetings over 4000. 1 over 5000. 3 below 1500. ( 961. 1480. 1054.) I have no idea whether you made your figures up or just don't have a clue. Either way the reality is otherwise. Regards. Alan. I responded to a post in the Elite League section (brave me! ) where the lady said that attendances for Swedish meetings were extremely low and she didn't know how riders were getting paid. I got my figures from Svemo and posted thus. (See above!) She has now come back and said she got her figures from this week's Speedway Star! I collated all 27 meetings myself and thought they would be of interest on this section. You have to click on each meeting result and the figure is on the top left of each meeting. Ghostwalker and others - over to you. Regards. Alan.
brandonbee48
A bit more to add. I went back to the Svemo website http://www.svemo.se/...ay/Allsvenskan/ and did the same for the Allsvenskan League The numbers are as follows. 18 meetings. Total attendance. 15732. Average. 874. High. 1895. 4 over 1000. Low. 311. 1 other under 500. There has only been 1 meeting in their 3rd tier and there was no figure for that. So again, where did these (Speedway Star ) figures come from? They bear no relaitionship whatsoever to the actual figures. Regards. Alan. Edited June 22, 2012 by brandonbee48

brandonbee48
180, 75, 123, 343, 41 it could be the attendances for division 1. I couldn't find anything other than 1 meeting which had no attendance figure. Those numbers would be realistic if that is what they are . 343 is quite good i would think for a third tier meeting. I have no idea what the Speedway Star says or the context of the article. I hope someone who subscribes can enlighten us. My reaction to the real numbers is that for Elitserien they are pretty good. That is bearing in mind the awful weather and the football being on currently. The figures for Allsvenskan seemed to be a bit down from last year, but again the same two caveats apply- the weather and big football on tv. Regards. Alan. Bit over the top, especially as you then state that you don't know what meetings are being quoted or what context.Fact is there are meetings that get those sort of figures as Ghostwalker say's.In my own experience i was at a Sweden U21 v Denmark U21 meeting in Malmö on a very nice day weather wise and doubt there was more than 100-200 people there including riders, mechanics and staff. It's hard to imagine a team anywhere NOT having cash-flow problems this season unless the owners have VERY deep pockets. Incessant rain, recession, the Euros and the Olympics. Tough, tough, tough i'm afraid. All a club can do this season is hope to get through it. Regards. Alan.
