2012 Gp Wildcards Announced

Recommended Posts

According to Pooles Twitter the Wildcards have been named as

Freddie Lindgren

Nicki Pedersen

Chris Harris

Darcy Ward

If it is the case then that makes the original post's thoughts correct. Although, for the reasons i gave it wasn't exactly rocket science as far as i'm concerned and am sure most fans would have thought the same.

Very important question if Darcy Ward is indeed nominated i presume that it is 100% dependent still on him accepting the invitation?. The fact that he has apparently been named as one of the four doesn't mean he will be taking part??? Maybe the official press release statement to be issued tomorrow will clarify that? Only i take it that the club that has put the news out on Twitter ahead of the SGP announcement have not also provided us with such details?

I wonder if whoever is responsible for the Poole Twitter would be pleased if someone leaked a big news story of theirs ahead of schedule on any given occasion.

I'm guessing that by rights taking into account form, potential and commercial interests the 4 Wild Cards for 2012 are pretty much set?

1. Darcy Ward - has to be a no-brainer?

2. Nicki Pedersen - has to be a no-brainer......surely?

3. Freddie Lindgren - the 9th place rider at present and a world class rider as league averages show.

4. Chris Harris - highest placed non-qualified rider in series at present* and there really needs to be an English (British hee hee!) representative.

Edited Update

*Highest placed once Lindgren and Pedersen have been picked. Lindback of course already qualified via the SGP Challenge meeting.

Whilst a lot of threads can be hard to decide what section they should be put in, it absolutely beggars belief that this topic has been started in the Elite League section. For goodness sake look at the title of the thread '2012 GP Wildcards Announced' should that not give a clue as to the correct forum.

It certainly is not of being finicky either, it's annoying when following a topic to have to visit more than one section. Amazingly, as was bound to happen, there have already been duplicate posts made in the running thread in the GP section.

There is, at this moment in time, a running 10 page thread on the topic

http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=67053

Might as well join others in having to now duplicate thoughts on the topic in two sections of the forum.

Well if Ward deserves 1 so does Janowski surely.??

They should give Janowski a couple of the wild card entries for Poland, see how he gets on. Does well, then in for 2013.

sense prevails and the right choices were made ... for 2012 anyway............... i'd suggest Bomber, Freddie and Nicki should be in the last chance saloon though....... at least unless they are prepared to try to qualify in the challenge

Personally I'd only have given Darcy a spot out of those four. Not a lot amongst the three qualifiers and the nominations to freshen the series up much.

There was a young aussie who rode for the bees on saturday at leicester . he should have got a place , he's young, australian , looks half right , and has not managed to qualify by other means . I vote we chuck out one of the riders who has actually qualified in the past and proved their worth at that level of competituion , lets chuck Harris out and give Rohan Tungate his place . after all the biggest speedway nation in the world ,deserves to be well represented , rather than one of these countries like England, Sweden, Denmark or Poland that have little or no support for speedway , the stadiums will all be bursting at the seams with travelling Aussie fans if we get enough of them in .

Rune Holta can feel hard done by IMO.

I'd agree with that.

Although to be honest, I'd do away with wildcards altogether and make everyone qualify. Perhaps keep the top 6 (or preferably 3) from the previous year, everyone else has to come through open qualifiers.

I DON"T think it is an indictment of the SGP rather the lack of properly organised and co-ordinated youth policies arose the speedway nations and especially in the UK

The FIM and in our case the ACU need to help out in this department perhaps ................

Ok, who has been left out that brings more excitement, drama and controversy than Nicki?

thats the issue, its very easy to say Mr X shouldnt be in, but much harder to find riders to include.

when you realise riders of the quality of holder grabbed the last automatic slot, then you realise how hard the gp has become and how easy the el has become.

the four names seems sensible to me

The 'nominations' are about as expected as far as I can see. I don't agree with 'nominations'.

With regards to 3 of the 4 picks, they are rewarding failure to finish in the top 8

Harris is a class exciting rider who finished second in the last completed GP.

Has done more than Lindgren in his GP career with a GP win and joint 5th in the world which Lindgren hasn't managed.

Not begrudging Lindgren a place but the justification you used for it is a bit silly.

The wildcards are fairly dull with no real talking points.

Problem is that there are very few other options

My issue with Harris is that he never qualified in the 1st place and has actually only qualified once himself which to be honest is hardly deserving of another wildcard. Yes he finished 2nd in Gorican but in the other 10 he was pretty ordinary. Its not good enough to have one good one at the end of the season. 48 points from the first 9 GP's is just a shade over 5 points a GP and not enough to justify his inclusion. Just 5 points more than Rune Holta after 9 GP's who was never in the hunt for a wildcard. He also didn't do the qualifiers which IMO should mean he wasn't in the hunt for a wildcard

Of course because of the appalling state of British Speedway there are no other options so although he shouldn't get one other than not having a Brit (and wouldn't make the authorities sit up adn take notice) there are no other alternatives

Sad state to be in really
