Main Man
NEWPORT VULTURES RACE FOR No.7 SPOT SATURDAY -----with top four from morning training school taking part !! The Newport DRILLERMAN Hornets are offering a big opportunity to any young rider without a team spot and chasing one this Saturday. In readiness for the evening clash with Kings Lynn at 7pm , the club will be staging a Saturday training school between 11 and 3 with the top four on the day being invited to take part in a series of “Vultures” races at the end of the school. This will be just a few hours prior to the National League clash with the winner taking the number seven spot in the team. Vulture Races were commonplace at some tracks many years ago giving youngsters the chance to claim a team spot but in recent years have all but disappeared. Newport co-promoter Nick Mallett is very enthusiastic about re-introducing the race-off “ We think this is a great opportunity for some British youngsters to establish themselves. No one else is offering this chance and we have decided to go down this route in the hope of unearthing some new talent for the club. It will give those attending the training school earlier in the day a goal to aim for and who knows we may find a real gem this way. There is much criticism that not enough is being done to develop and foster British youngsters but this may be a step forward.” “We expect a healthy turn out for the training school on Saturday now with this opportunity up for grabs but would like riders to book in so we know what numbers to expect. Naturally the school is open to all ages and categories of riders on 125, 250 and 500cc bikes who will all get as much track time as we can fit in.” Bookings can be made by e-mail to : laurencerogers@blueyonder.co.uk or by texting or calling Laurence Rogers on 07801429304 , Nick Mallett on 07870570880 , Del Rowe on 07796815392 or Kevin Brown on 07521338484
CrystalCastles
Hopefully we get a good turnout for the training school & with the opportunity to ride in this fixture be interesting to see how many riders turn up and give it a go, It's a big opportunity for somebody to get a few rides before the end of season and put there name out there. The Hornets will be without TK but are going to track a full 7 man team with a debut for Dan Greenwood. Additionally it's great to see the Hornets having a chance to ride on the track in the evening & under floodlights, hopefully we will get a decent crowd come out to support them against what is an improving Young Stars team. The Newport Drillerman Hornets will be not in riding order: Richard Andrews; Matt Bates; Dan Greenwood; Jay Herne (capt); Brendan Johnson; James White-Williams; Winner of the 'Vulture' races. CrystalCastles
Great performance by the Young Stars. Well done the best team won tonight. Massive thanks to Clint for taking on the updates & also to Mish89 for posting Martins correct surname. For the Young Stars I thought Kerr, Campos, Woods were all superb difficult to pick the best performance out of those 3, I'd go for Kerr, he's made a huge amount of progress. Allott was a good choice of guest & as always looked classy at this level when out in front, we were even treated to a collectors item pass from him. Stokes & Naylor were both ok tonight. For the Hornets Greenwood looked great, he'd probably get my nod for Hornet of the meeting very good prospect, although Jay & Brendon were fantastic tonight. Whilst Bates & JWW were solid. Andrews tried hard but wasn't his night tonight, & Martin Knuckey looked like he had something despite his falls & more experience & track time will help him. Heat 15 was an absoloutely belting race between Herne & Kerr and up there with the best races I've seen this season.

Good to see Dan Greenwood, if it is the Dan I know, back in the saddle since it was a great loss to British Speedway when as ex U15 champion, he retired from the sport. Nice lad, and hopefully he has come back with renewed vigour after the knockbacks previously experienced whilst trying to establish himself in the NL. Sam Woods also seems to have got some praise for his riding yesterday so his spring and summer spent in Denmark with the unlimited practice faciilities and coaching assistance over there seem to have paid off for the Woods family. Also a brave move by Newport to bring in this Vultures race to try and blood new riders. Well done.
Liamhgk13
Well done to the young stars! Both sides put on a good show especially Jay and Brendon for Newport and allott and kerr for the stars!! Hard to believe kerr has only been riding a speedway bike for a short time!! Hopefully we might get to see him ride in the PL next year. Shame the season at its end!! Roll on next year!!

Rode really well and his win and 5-1 with Brendan in ht 12 gave us a chance of pulling back on the Young Stars who were nine ahead at the time. Martin Knuckey will remember his NL debut and will only get better with experience. He took the number 7 slot after the training school that saw him, Josh Pickering, Rhys Hooper and Ross Walter all in contention. Heat 15 was one of the races of the season between Jay Herne and Lewis Kerr with Jay producing the pass of the season after the lead had changed hands several times. Those who stayed away missed a cracker of a meeting. Full marks to the track staff who produced a superb racing track that had previous had a four hour training school on it. Thanks for the information Lawrence. He was at Scunthorpe the other week with Jack Hargeaves and I didn't recongise him since he has grown much taller but so glad he did so well for you.
