Potters v Mildenhall PLAY OFF SEMI FINAL 1st leg 01/10/11

STOKE Easy Rider Potters team manager Malcolm Vasey is urging supporters to turn out in force as the Potters take on Mildenhall in the first leg of the National League play offs semi final at Loomer Road on Saturday night. Vasey Said “This is a very important match for the club and we want to progress into the final and the supporters have a big part to play as it really does help the team as the Mildenhall supporters showed at West Row last Sunday in the cup and I really hope that the Stoke supporters will come out in force to back the team.”

The Potters welcome Ben Reade back into the fold as he replaces Tim Nobes at reserve in what is an otherwise unchanged team for the Potters.

The Fen Tigers will also be unchanged from Sunday’s cup final clash which sees’ Potters supporters the chance to see Cameron Heeps who spearheads the Tigers along with former Potter Jack Hargreaves and Mark Baseby. Completing the top five is Lewis Blackbird and Joe Jacobs. At reserve for the Fen men is Daniel Halsey who was the Tigers man of the match in last Sunday’s clash with Aaron Baseby also scoring well.

Potters team manager Vasey commented “We will be looking to hit Mildenhall early on and open up a lead. Mildenhall are a very good side and we will need to be at our best. I’m sure there will be some fantastic racing and supporters will be in for a treat we really want to win and we will do our very best to make it happen.”

Stoke: Simon Lambert, Jaimie Pickard, James Sarjeant, Tony Atkin Captain), Tim Webster, Ben Reade, Gareth Isherwood

Mildenhall: Cameron Heeps, Mark Baseby, Joe Jacobs, Lewis Blackbird, Jack Hargreaves (Captain), Daniel Halsey, Aaron Baseby

Looking forward to this one, all being well we will be making the trip up to Stoke :approve:

Hopefully we can keep the gap under 10 points, and set the tie up for Sundays 2nd leg!

Can't wait for this. If Stoke's top 5 turns up, I can't see Mildenhall living with them, but we all know that probably won't happen.

Personally, I would like a 14-16 point lead, but that's being greedy! I think 8 is the minimum we need!

I don't think 14 points is being greedy at all, Pickard, Sarg, Atkin, Webster and isherwood are all cable of 8+ points at home where they all arnt quite so strong at west row. Lambert is obviously going to score big. Reade is just Meh but its very mature of him to come back into the side after being replaced so big thumbs up to him. He will have a point to prove and will drive him to push that extra yard.

I think stoke will win by 10-15 at least, all our top 5 can hit 4 ride maximums at the Chesterton circuit

I still think Mildenhall will win over two legs.

Mildenhall's top five is pretty good too and they have a decisive advantage at reserve.

I'd say the two most important riders are Isherwood and Heeps. If Isherwood stops the Mildenhall reserves (particularly at Loomer Road) then Stoke will win. On the other hand, if Heeps starts beating Stoke's top riders the advantage swings to the Fen Tigers. Both of them can do it.

Whatever, these two meetings should be absolutely crackers (particularly if Stoke, for once, prepare the track properly)and at least as entertaining as their EL equivalents.

One thing is certain: they'll be better than the crap I saw at Kirky Lane last night.

PS I'll be in attendance at both meetings, purely to make sure Norwichkev behaves himself. :D

I just think it is synonimous of the young struggling reserves who want to just take the opportunities where they can.I don't think pride comes into it. Hope Ben goes onto do really well and hopefully he wont put himself under too much pressure to perform.

I think Mildenhall could just make this over the two legs. Too many of our riders can't get to grip of the Mildenhall track; not saying it's slick because I have no idea but you cannot go to a place too often and get away with what we did last week. Was impressed with Mildenhall earlier in the year and they seem to go well at our place. The track at our place hasn't been too bad this year, certainly not as good as in past years but racable most weeks so to say "for once" is a little harsh. Good to see Ben back and regardless of his scores he should of seen the season out in the team. To expect Tim to come in and score was too much to ask and at this stage of the season. I assume he must be injuried with Ben in. Looking forward to the weekend and regardless of outcome of the meetings it has been a good year for the Potters. Hope the loon pots stay away and we get good racing from both sides.

I'm not coming up for this one so it's not fair if I comment on the fixture itself, I just want to say before a wheel is turned, congratulations to Stoke Potters on being the NL champions, as in my old fashioned opinion the team thats top at the cut off point off the season, wins the league. yes, I know why the play offs are there, extra meetings and extra revenue for the top 4 successfull clubs, and I am not saying they should'nt happen, but if Stoke dont win the play offs then in my humble opinion, then they have been robbed.

The one thing the Mildenhall track isn't is slick.

It probably is a bit harsh but I'd say Stoke is the best shaped track in British Speedway, but the racing all too often doesn't live up to that :(

My slick "Joke" was more of a play on the Stoke riders not getting to "grip" with the Mildenhall track than any reference to the state of the track. Poor attempt at a joke but it keeps me going through the day. I've never seen it(Mildenhalls track) and probably never will.

True the Stoke track does not live up to it's reputation.I think it was the team manager from Scunthorpe that said he thought the straights are too long for the bends, what do people think of that. Thats not a gripe at the chap; just asking what others think of the comments. Is it Vojens that is built on the lines of Stokes track?; might be the other way round, not sure. Plenty of good racing there in Denmark on that track. Just looking forward to the meeting tommorrow and a close meeting between two very good sides.

Vojens was built on the lines of the Stoke circuit, over the years Stoke has produced some fantastic racing and I'm sure will continue to do so in the future.

Very difficult to say how Mildenhall will do tomorrow night in my opinion.

Our previous visit to Stoke saw us fall away badly in the later part of the meeting to lose by 21. However since then we have bought in Cameron Heeps and Mark Baseby to replace James Brundle and Nick Laurence which makes us considerably stronger. Also with Aaron Baseby and Dan Halsey now at reserve we look much more solid in that department.

That said Lambert didn't ride in this meeting although his replacement Jon Armstrong scored a paid maximum! Also Gareth Isherwood was in the main body and James Sargeant at reserve.

If we are to do well though we need to keep it close early on and not need to employ the TR's too early.

It all adds up to two potentially cracking meetings, fingers crossed :approve:

Don,t like the idea of play-offs,if a team is at the top of the league at the end of the season. they should be champions, not the other teams below them, anyway will be going to this meeting, going for the potters to win by 10- 15 points, and it looks like another beautiful day in the potteries. COME ON THE POTTERS.

Very funny - I was talking about the fans - ones who like to provoke...if the cap fits...

Not I sir.

As someone whose parents were not related, and I only have the four fingers and a thumb on each hand, I do not qualify to be a fully fledged Fen Tigers fan. In a similar fashion as I have not had a lobotomy, or indeed like Tom Jones, Loomer Road is unlikely to be a regular stamping ground.

Pip pip!!!!!!!
