Guest mick wildy
My mother & father used to be regulars at New Cross in the late 30's early 40's and I remember she told me everyone at her work knew when she had been to speedway cause she could not talk the following day!! She told me a song the crowd used to sing about a rider who more often or not fell off but I can not remember his name, the song went as follows... 2,4,6,8, Willies at the starting gate, Will he win? I d'ont know, Come on Willie have a go! Anyone know who Willie was? Many thanks.

norbold
The only rider I can think of who the song may have referred to is Bill Longley, one of New Cross's leading riders in 1938 and 39 before returning in 1947. No other Williams or Willies as far as I know.
