I think everyone is getting a bit carried away just because Ashworth is not going to Plymouth.Berwick would have had their own plans in place before this happened and he would not have been part of them then IMO,So why should he be part of them now?Just because his average might fit. It is ironic that should Berwick sign Ashworth and Fisher signs for Plymouth, it strengthens both teams.

Also would seem IF Ashworth is going to Berwick then he has been tapped up by them or they have spoken to him behind Plymouths back... didn't Bandit fans make huge noise when Newport signed Gjedde in an "apparant" situation, albeit during the season?

Think this could be a blessing in disguise for Plymouth as I reckon Ashworth would have been woeful around their track.

Can't be bothered doing stats, but always enjoy laughing at your rider assessments… is this one based on Ashworth's sole trip to Plymouth last year which had two wins, a second and a fall ??

Ricky Ashworth has signed for Berwick according to the Berwick web site they were looking for a new rider but with little joy of a signing.

To quote their web site.

“Several riders were considered, even talked to, to fill the role.” admitted team boss Ian Rae.

“But we weren’t really getting the right results from these discussions. Some riders wanted too much money or warned us they would miss some of our meetings. Or both! We were facing a brick wall.

“However, out of the blue on Sunday we took a call from (his parent club) Sheffield’s promoter David Hoggart to say that Ricky Ashworth -- who everyone thought would be joining Plymouth -- hadn’t been able to come to terms with the Devils. Would we be interested?

“Yes we were!

“I obviously questioned the validity but was assured it was true. A rider of Ricky's ability is too good to overlook bearing in mind our current circumstances and we commenced negotiations on Monday to bring him to Shielfield Park.

“With Sheffield’s full permission we touched base with Ricky, our director George Hepburn and I met him at Wetherby Services on the A1 and today we are holding the signed contracts.

“Job done!

“Whatever the problem was in Devon – and that would be none of our business – I can state that Ricky was very understanding of our situation and of our budgets, and we had no trouble in coming to terms.

Who said Speedway isn't classy? Did they present Ricky with one of them vile Berwick wulfsport coats at the local Burger King?

The biggest gripe most berwick fans was his total lack of effort when was racing which blantely obvious if you knew anything about speedway.

Mon the Fish!!

Barker and Fisher in the same side well something tells me HalifaxTiger could be down for a few more meetings this season :)

Superb coup for the club although in the press release there was no need for the slating of Ashworth, that's uncalled for!

No more than I was coming anyway - its the company and the racing that make SBA such an attractive (if expensive) destination :D

I might take in a few more away matches, though, as the sight of Barker & Fisher must make Plymouth attractive visitors where ever they go..

To be fair to Bowden, that's a superb signing :approve: . Not only that, Fisher doesn't come cheap and while he might have moderated his terms a bit in the face of missing out altogether he will still cost more than many.

If Fisher has signed then I was right it was a blessing in disguise!
