Devilforever
well I have heard that Bowden is applying to go National League, he has to find riders and staff first including a team manager, dont think the supporters will be behind this but that wont bother the great one! Pinny
What a disaster for Plymouths fans... Can you imagine the crap lining up for Bowden in the PL in 2013, should the BSPA be so thick to grant him a license.
Halifaxtiger
What a disaster for Plymouths fans... Can you imagine the crap lining up for Bowden in the PL in 2013, should the BSPA be so thick to grant him a license.  Its a disaster for the sport as a whole - one of our best supported clubs folding because of the loss of the stadium. I know comment has been made regarding the suitability of the land for building purposes but knowing where it is it surprises me that anyone would want to build almost anything substantial on it.  I will feel the loss of speedway at Plymouth personally possibly more than most (with the exception of Devils fans). Its one of my favourite tracks for racing, the run down there the other side of Exeter is superb and I have made some cracking mates at SBA. Fingers crossed things change.  Well with one year to run on the lease, speedway can run in 2013 at the SBA but from what I can gather the Consortium wont buy the club for just a year as it simply wouldn't make business sense if the SBA is to be sold. I guess that means Mr Bowden will remain at the helm and unless the authorities decide to withdraw his licence he will run the club next season if he wants to.  Interestingly though I believe the Team Manager has already stated he wont carry on under Mr Bowden unless he is given more freedom and you can bet your bottom dollar no-one will want to ride for him nor will the fans want to support him.  Unless another location can be found for the 2014 season and beyond it looks like Plymouth Speedway is likely to close this Winter or next.  Mike  Could they lease the club from Bowden in the way that Gary Patchett did at Birmingham ?  That would enable the speedway to continue, provide a breathing space and allow the college to think again. I'm going to remain a 'glass half full' on this and hope a breakthrough happens but if he doesn't it'll be one year of NL probably and then no more. Â Is it FINAL then or are negotiations still ongoing? Â I am dreadfully sorry to hear about these problems. Â Plymouth Supporters do not need this. They turned up at Newcastle, a few weeks ago - and what a smashing lot they were. Speedway NEEDS people like these.
Shadders
I had a memorable first visit to Plymouth speedway recently. I'd hate to think it could be the last.

I'd value Godfrey's comments on this but it seems to me he'd be leasing the stadium and the licence only as Plymouth have few (if any) riding assets. With new promotion in charge and a decent team to back them, I'd be surprised if the gates at SBA didn't double (sponsorship increasing too) so there would be optimism regarding the financial position.  In addition, it gives the college a year to consider their position.I absolutely agree with devildodger when he says that he wouldn't buy a house built on the land - from BobC's statement to me about the flooding there you'd have to have a bolt loose to even think about it. There's no way a superstore could be put there either, Sainsbury's car park across the road being far bigger without the access road that the Highways Agency have. Light commercial units of the kind that surround the stadium are more likely, but would it be worth the expense of the flood proofing for something of that size? torpointfanatic22
Bowden's comments in today's local paper, taken from the Devils forum...  Bowden is set to stay in control.  He says" We did suffer some financial problems last season, but those difficulties have now been resolved". "I will now be looking to have some discussions with the College in the hope of extending my lease to ensure the future of Speedway in Plymouth". Those people who have been critical of me on the various websites must realise that it is a case of Speedway with Mike Bowden or no speedway at all". Mr Bowden has also replaced Trigger as Team Manager, although has not named his replacement.  Enough said sadly. barncooseboy
If the college get a valuation on the site that tells them because the land is a flood plainm and there are also restructions placed on it by the Ministry of Transport it is worth £x where x is a reasonable figure, the consortium would consider buying the land. We have a property company friend who might be prepared to join us iIF the price is at a level where it is economic to continue with the site just as it is for speedway, we cant afford to compete with industrial unit/retail developers, although why they would want to overpay for the site who knows.  The college want to put the land up for sale to the open market to set up a bidding war or maybe there wouldnt be any bidders
keyham
Strange how on the same day the rumour mill starts to pump out new things. And we got slapped for rumours. N/L and at least one rider named already for 2013. Again we ask who does start these rumours???????

Oh and just in case it was in doubt about how Bowden treats his 'staff', out going team manager Lee Trigger found out he was being replaced in exactly the same way Gary Spiller did, in the paper! God help anyone who associates themselves with this man!

torpointfanatic22
Roll on the BSPA agm and see what action will be taken  With no promotion to come in and keep it alive, do you really think they'll axe Bowden? I don't. He'll opt for the N/L and that will keep the BSPA happy.  It's the beginning of the end peeps, it's sad but it's true.
ballroom
No Speedway at all then mike, has much as i love Speedway, but you have to draw the line somewhere. Â Does this mean you will stop your never ending whinging on here? Â It seems that Bowden may not be everyones cup of tea but really you must accept that you are a `fan`, and that means you pay for 15 heats of racing. It does entitle you to choose the promotor of Plymouth Speedway.
