Roger MARTIN
I see Cory was going to ride for Belle Vue until he got the offer from Plymouth, so he withdrew from that agreement so he could ride for the Devils, so i hope the lad does well for the team and get a few points for himself,
The White Knight
Spot on mike, the deal was done on Saturday over the phone, then on paper on Sunday, it had to be done very quick before the lad signed for anyone else, but i don't think it was a good idea putting it in the Sunday paper, not until the lad had signed, then put it in the paper, forsight is a good if you get it right, and this time he has, but you would think he would have learned from past experience not to put anything in the paper until they have signed and he had the paperwork in his hands. Does it really matter HOW and WHEN he signed? Plymouth have got themselves a great Rider in my opinion. I bet the Plymouth Supporters will just be pleased that he has signed. Â Well done to Plymouth - and - Good Luck to them.

english roundabout
Just wondering what the general feeling is amongst devils fans now that you have secured gathercole instead of boxall. Previously there wasn't much optimism for the season ahead. With gathercole providing solid middle order support and touching a seven point average in my opinion, surely you guys are feeling more positive? Previously there wasn't much optimism for the season ahead. With gathercole providing solid middle order support and touching a seven point average in my opinion, surely you guys are feeling more positive? Â Judging by the Devils forum I'd say most fans are very pleased with the change and I tend to agree. Â Gathercole is a good 3rd heat leader in his own right and with Barker and Fisher hopefully scoring big points at the top end he should be able to support them well. I do though feel Cory has maybe found his level as a 7 point PL rider, he had undoubtedly become stale with the Somerset/Swindon tie up and hopefully a small track will improve him as an overall rider and maybe will enable him to kick on again. I'd question whether he is actually more talented than Boxall but he is far more consistent and committed which is what our middle order needs, so that alone gives him my vote over Boxall, it's just a shame that such a talent is being wasted. Â Overall though we are still painfully weak at the bottom end and replacing Boxall with Gathercole wont change that fact. Arguably the strongest top 3 in the league and the weakest bottom 4. That said we have 1.57 remaining and should the bottom end not hit the ground running we have options which is certainly more positive. Cliffeboy
One of my all time favourites at the OTA,and it was sad to see him not push on last season.I hope he does well , however I`m not sure a small track suits his style, gating not being one of his strong points as I said when there was a rumour he may go to Rye.One thing he will not do is quit if the going gets tough. english roundabout
Its fair to say cory is better on the bigger tracks. He always rides coventry well and did a decentish job at swindon last year. He originally came from the isle of wight of course. He was awful at eastbourne and lakeside however. I agree though, once he gets dialled in at plymouth he will be fine. A definite asset away as well.
Roger MARTIN
Cory got a 6 and a 8 on his two visits to the SBA last year, i feel like some once he gets dialed in to the track he will do a very good job, i think we have a very good rider now in Cory Gathercole, and i will be right behind him and the rest of the team on friday, so yes i am happier now than i was about Boxhall coming to the Devils, in May last year Cory was on a cma of 7.78, i see no reason why he can't improve his cma this year, like i say once he get's dialed into the sba he will up his CMA into the later 7's i think, it's all down to Cory. torpointfanatic22
Just as a point of reference there is a new 'unofficial' site for Plymouth Speedway up and running here... Â http://www.plymouth-devils.co/ Â I think you'll agree it's far better than the 'official' one and offers far more user friendly surfing. Roger MARTIN
I agree with that, i would bin Franchetti and bring in someone like Robert Branford, because he could not do much worse, then bin Holder and use the spare points from Franchetti to get a rider just under the 5 point cma, there is not a lot to play with but someone like Viktor Bergstrom would be better than Holder, but something has to be done because Holder and Franchetti were shocking last night. dontforgetthefueltapsbruv
Well done to Plymouth last night. You are close to being a very good side and the changes you are calling for could well do the trick if made.Glanz impressed towards the end last night - not incredibly quick but rode intelligent lines to keep Dak behind in 14. 2ndbendbeerhut
A point from either James Holder or Gino "Ginelli" would have won the meeting last night.
Roger MARTIN
Franchetti and Holder are getting beat every week by good NL rider's riding in the PL, last week against Somerset Kyle Newman made them both look static, and unless they both improve in a big way this weekend against Glasgow and Liecester Mike Bowden will have to make the decision to bin one or both riders, Holder and Franchetti are not inexperienced riders, they are just not good enough for the PL, end of Edited May 18, 2012 by Devildodger

That said I do feel your being slightly on the harsh side especially where Holder is concerned  Holder's scores so far this season...  Home v Rye - 5+2(4) Home v Somerset - 4(4) Home v Leicester - 5+2(4) Home v Somerset - 2(4)  Away v Rye - 3(5) Away v Somerset - 5(4) Away v Ipswich - 0(4)  Whilst Gino has...   Home v Rye - 5+1(4) Home v Somerset - 2+1(4) Home v Leicester - 6(4) Home v Somerset - 6+1(4)  Away v Rye - 1(4) Away v Somerset - 2(3) Away v Ipswich - 0(3)  Neither rider has pulled up trees but in Holder's case bar last week against Somerset he has done OK at the SBA bearing in mind the track is new to him and he's riding in the main body when he should be at reserve. His away form bar last night is respectable given that he is again riding in a position he shouldn't be at. Gino has managed just two more points than Jimmy at home (if we include bonus points) yet he has had easier riders at reserve and has been at Plymouth for pretty much a full year now. His away form is woeful and has been since he signed for us.  First question is are there better riders out there on the same averages who would do better? Branford for me isn't!  We have little to play with on top of the team already assembled, perhaps 0.2-0.3 so little room for movement on the team. We'd have 8ish available to replace both, or it's like for like and at this stage I don't see much better out there.  That aside I'd be hugely and I mean hugely shocked if Bowden binned Gino for all sorts of reasons, IF anyone goes sadly I think it will be Holder which would in my opinion by the wrong move. stratton
How has Nickki Glanz done? i think he has done well and he will improve. He has scored really good points but often not doing well in heat 2 sorts that out will be fine.
Roger MARTIN
After watching the meeting at the SBA tonight if anyone goes it has to be Franchetti, Holders not a great rider, but he is much better than Franchetti, by the end of the meeting tonight both Glasgow reserves were beating Franchetti, he is all over the place, and has no control on the track. Â Indeed, the feedback from the texter on the updates to me last night said similar. The two dilemma's are will Bowden get rid of him given the various connections he has down at the SBA and also who would replace him? Looking at the greensheets we probably have around 3.7 to replace him with, so who would be out there? Ksiezak may fit, Hughes probably would fit, Branford, recall Cockle (who shouldn't have been dropped in the first place), or take a punt on an NL rider. Webster, Starke, Blackbird? Â Sadly I don't see many options that would be much of an improvement.
