T.N.T.
A meeting to remember New Zealand star, Gary Peterson who died tragically at Monmore Green in 1975 riding for Wolves in a Midland Cup match v Oxford This meeting usually has afield of young riders with a few more experienced riders thrown in for good measure and was won by Tai Woffinden last season and has to start as favourite here after scorring 44+1 from his last three meetings at WV2 and finishing the season not only as the highest averaging Brit for the season, but also has the highest average at home from the Wolves team (inc Freddie) I think Nicolai Klindt returns to his parent track for the first time this season and there will be challenges for Tai from team mate, Ty Proctor and local based riders in Ryan Fisher from Coventry and both Ben Barker and Daniel King from Birmingham. Whatever the end result, there is likely to be some great racing and admission has been reduced to just £12 for Adults amd £3 for kids. 17 year old Holsted rider, Mikkel Salomonsen makes his first official Monmore appearance Edited September 18, 2011 by T.N.T. HasseHolmqvist
Was there the night Gary died after entering the third bend and being challenged by Alan Grahame and being thrown into a lamp standard. The track was treacherous due to rain and the meeting could so easily have been called off. Gary never quite acheived what he could have due to a lack of self belief .. he was a massive freind of Ole Olsen's whos dash across the centre green to his fallen buddy will stick in my mind forever as he tried to get the ambulance to get on the track very quickly. The silence as his death was annouced by a choking presenter was incredible "I am sorry to inform you that Gary has failed to make it, could you all please leave the stadium quietly" .. my saddest night in 43yrs of watching speedway. RIP Gary ... we will never forget you at Wolves

RIP Gary ... we will never forget you at Wolves A very sad night. I think I am correct in saying that it was Gary's untimely death that lead to the requirement for an ambulance to be present at each meeting - when Gary fell the St Johns people had to wait for a County Ambulance to be called. Gary had lots of bad luck both with injuries and in his personal life which undoubtedly held him back from achieving his full potential. Brummie Kev
I will be making the short trip to Monmore Green tomorrow to cheer on Danny King and Ben Barker. I honestly cant anyone beating Woffinden to the title again, it will be a MASSIVE upset if someone beats him to it. Thats why I think it would be better to have a Grand Final to decide winner rather than just the winner over the 20 heats. Confirmed Line up below, its only £12 Adult to get it. LINE-UP: Ludvig Lindgren (Wolverhampton & Berwick), Tero Aarnio (Wolverhampton & Berwick), Tyson Nelson (Rye House), Ilya Bondarenko (Leicester), Tai Woffinden (Wolverhampton), Mikkel Salamonsen (Unattached), Adam Roynon (Redcar & Dudley), Claes Nedermark (Newcastle), Lubos Tomicek (Wolverhampton), Ty Proctor (Wolverhampton), Ryan Fisher (Coventry), Ben Barker (Birmingham & Plymouth), Josh Auty (Coventry & Sheffield), Aaron Summers (Redcar), Danny King (Birmingham), Ricky Wells (Wolverhampton & Plymouth). I take your point, but one can hardly tweak the meeting formula just because one of the riders is currently so good! Anyway, I like to see a little tradition in these days of play-offs, grand final, T20 cricket and all the rest of the instant gratification. Best of luck to your two; King is very capable around Monmore and Barker has come to terms with it recently. I would discount his below-par last appearance when it was extremely wet. Proctor would be my bet were Woffinden not riding. Really looking forward to this; it's a meeting which has produced very exciting racing in the last two stagings. 21st century heathen
Tai should romp to victory. I believe only some sort of failure to finish a race will give the others a chance. Danny, Ben and Ty to be fighting it out for the 2nd and 3rd steps on the podium. It's a pretty poor line-up to be honest. I can't see it attracting anyone that's not already on the doorstep today. Fish and Wells should be next in line, with probably Auty and Summers up next although Lindgren could get amongst them if the outside is working and he stays pointing in the right direction. The rest could do anything as they don't have much Monmore experience as far as I'm aware. The eagle eyed will note one high profile omission. The only potential spoiler I can see to the rough order I've named is Roynon. If he's fully fit and at his best, though that's unlikely which is why I missed him out, then he could be a thorn and perhaps cost one of the top boys a vital point or two.
