Bryn
jon cook's coming out of retirement is he bryn! Mmmm...... I seem to recall 'cityrebel' that one Friday when the Eastbourne Eaglets including Cookie were in town, a certain number of that night's Hackney Kestrel News mysteriously carried a spurrious back page artice stating that junior riders over 6'0" tall were being banned from riding. There then followed a detailed explanation as to the apparent reasoning behind this basically stating that the taller riders had a higher centre of gravity and therefore were that much more prone to falling off. Bryn
6PM WEATHER UPDATE: Had shower some 45mins ago but soon cleared up, clear sky now if turning a tad chilly and meeting definitely ON - start time 8pm. Could be last meeting of season here if Belle Vue win next Wednesday's re-staging of the second leg of of the KO Cup tie by four or more points. Lets hope for a great 2012 Hackney Speedway reunion when one again we can hear those imortal words 'lets make it a date, Friday at 8' Edited October 7, 2011 by Paul
MrMungo
Made my first visit to Lakeside for many, many, many years and despite the diabolical British weather, I rather enjoyed the day out. The people there were extremly friendly, and the track staff worked wonders to get the track even semi-rideable. I really thought it was going to be another wasted trip at about 5pm. Credit has to go to all 13 riders. Some clearly found it easier to adapt than others, but all 13 gave it their best, and you can't ask for more than that. Lots of falls during the meeting, but thankfully the riders used their heads, and most were just innocent-looking slid-offs resulting in no lasting injuries. Even experienced something I have rarely experienced before. A referee admitting he was wrong! It was just a shame he didn't admit to it until after I had filled out my program! marko
Chris Gay got himself in a right mess with that heat but to be fair it did not help that the incorrect flag was shown to the rider in yellow, he was shown the chequered flag when he still had one lap to go having fallen earlier in the race, the ref actually robbed Shane Hazeldon of extra points because there is a small chance he could have got to the line ahead of Ben Holloway who was given 2nd even though he was 3rd when the ref incorrectly put the red lights on. waco
Great meeting if you like lots of falls and riders being lapped, a bit like formula 1 you sometimes were not sure who was in front and who was at the back,,to be fair the track was slippery early on ,not ideal conditions to introduce inexperienced riders to the teams, who in fact all had their moments in between their falls..The racing was not up to the normal National league standard however and will have done little to encourage first time fans to support a hammers team at this level next season, which is unfortunate as the League needs new teams..Good performances from Hawks David Mason,Marc Owen,Shane Hazelden and Ben Morley who also produced the best two passes of the night catching Adam Wrathall on the line in heat 11,,and a brilliant pass of Saints top rider Richie Worrall to win ,in heat 15..Credit to all the riders for giving it ago in difficult conditions,,Lets hope that Lakeside will join the Rye House Raiders in the National League next year... montie
And hopefully you'll be on here tomorrow night , apologising after they have made fools of themselves and scunthorpe /sheffield . this is exactly the reason no british kids make the grade , they get frustrtated at being top of their game and then getting overlooked in favour of no hopers like the pair . I've seen both of them recently and the only thing they will make a mockery of is what you have posted . Connor Dwyer didnt to to bad on debut badvok,6 plus was it???? MrMungo
Connor Dwyer didnt to to bad on debut badvok,6 plus was it???? Thought he rode well, Montie. He impressed me. Looks like he could be a solid reserve for next year.
waco
Connor Dwyer didnt to to bad on debut badvok,6 plus was it???? Montie there were 4 inexperienced riders in this match and they were bound to take points of one another..none of them are quite ready for this league..though given the conditions last night one or two could make the break through sometime next year and i hope they do however i would be surprised if Len Silver will be rushing to sign them ..Pace wise Kingston looked to have the most potential actually won a race... TonyE
I thought Connor Dwyer acquitted himself well - scored at least a point in each of his rides and looked quite tidy.

I make you right on that one ..:was watching Ben Morley riding for the rockets that night. The results up there did not make good reading for a Rye fan.... .. Hmm, but as Shane was pushing home (for more than a lap..!) it's hard to see how he could've caught an under-powered Holloway! I agree it was a confusing moment but I think by then Chris had probably had his brain somewhat frazzled (as must have the poor Incident Recorder!) by the enormous amount of incidents! The red light wasn't put on though was it, though you must be right that the young Saints reserve must have stopped due to chequered flag... There was a finishing time (for four laps) announced for the race winner Marc Owen..

Yes that this was long after young Holloway had stopped racing!! For the life of me I'm not sure if Holloway completed four laps or not! I thought he did at the time but now I'm not so sure!!!!!
