Ipswich 2012

Recommended Posts

From the photo that Jaybea published on Facebook, it looks like Tungate, North & Poole have all got "reversed" Witches.

Doolan has got the kangaroo witch logo on his backside, and in the blue areas of his legs you can see designs of a kangaroo on a speedway bike :).

That looks simply horrendous - imagine Rooney coming onto the field with the standard Manchester United logo, Giggs with a massive logo on his, Hernandez with sombreros etched into his shirt and shorts and then all the Brazilans having the colours on the logo reversed.

Massive lack of professionalism IMO.

ME?????!!! :o

 I think I get it now!!!! sorry,..... you brought it up for him then??

Nearly - you might be able to guess who's fuel taps my bruv is responsible for at Foxhall and who happened to have some of Taylor's gear stored including his racesuit from last year!

I see the star of Anglian is next Thursday 22nd, line up to be announced shortly.

Crump,Hancock,Hampel,Gollob.......and wake up!!!

Cock-up is the correct word for this. There are different manufacturers, and some came from Poland ... where they clearly got it wrong! Maybe the riders will be able to get replacements - I guess it depends on proving that the makers got the designs wrong when they set them up. I've no idea what process is used - I would have thought it's all on PC these days  .

Anyway, as mentioned above, these days the lack of team suits is definitely the most unprofessional approach. I recall Plymouth looking a right rag-tag bunch.

Surely its more unprofessional not to have team suits for a team sport? :o

Personally I have never been a fan.

I am of an age when the regular spectator would identify riders not just by helmet colour, but by their leathers as well. Whilst I freely accept that I'm probably in a very significant minority, I find the whole concept of team Kevlars very dull. Personally I found the old race bib was sufficient to identify the members of the same team, and their own leathers enhanced each riders individuality.

I was expecting a horror show after this comment not the very minor differences there actually are. When the riders are on the bike you'd never tell the difference. Of course, we'll have to see tomorrow how many fans rip up their programmes and bin their Wulfsport jackets in disgust at the sheer 'unprofessionalism' on display.

Fair point that. My idol as a child was Dennis Sigalos and the very first thing that brought my attention to him and made him stand out from the rest was his distinctive red, white and blue American leathers with the white stars down the legs.

When team suits first came out, i shared the same opinion to you. But my opinion has changed over time. When teams turn up with bibs and different colour kevlars, it just doesn't look as professional as the team suits.

I tend to agree, but like Cardinal Sin have grown used to the suits and there's a definite smartness to them.

When Plymouth rolled up last season looking like they'd been on the street all day selling Big Issue - it made me realise how incredibly unprofessional a bunch of individuals wearing a race jacket can look.

I didn't speak to anyone tonight specifically about the suits, because I didn't have a ticket, so couldn't get in. I waited for a while, and after the main interviews, a few people departed (ie. got in their cars and drove off), so I wandered in - but within a few minutes was told to leave because I was not a ticket holder so by being in the room was causing a contravention of the fire regulations. I guess I stood out like a sore thumb because people know me - but there was no-one on the door, so I wonder if anyone else crept in?

Trouble is, these days you can't talk about anything like this without offending someone, so I'll shut up now, LOL.

One has to ask, just how reliable is the BSPA website? The Rye House and Tyson situation is particularly interesting. On the BSPA site Tyson was shown with an average of 5.33 and all the rest of the Rockets had averages attached. According to the BSPA website: "Teams with rider averages against them have been declared and officially approved by the BSPA".

It now transpires that Tyson's paperwork hadn't been approved, and his place on the BSPA's website line up is taken by Leigh Lanham.

It doesn't provide a great deal of confidence, does it???!!!!

Nelson and Ingalls have permits but not Visas I believe!

I think you may need to do a wee bit more research!!

The Tier 5 Visa is also the work permit. In order to get the visa a sponsorship form is required, together with a GBE. In respect of Ingalls it appears that the BSPA were reluctant to grant a GBE. However a recent tweet from Ingalls suggests that the position has now been resolved.

As for Nelson who knows? There has been a suggestion that Len withdrew the sponsorship form, on the basis that Lanham was a better bet. Purely speculation of course, but a further element of the conspiracy theory was that this was all encouraged by the MC to help to placate the SRA.

As long as the speedway authorities in this country continue to operate under a shroud of secrecy, rumour and speculation will continue unabated.

You clearly haven't looked at the photo's properly - the "reversed" Witches kevlars are made by Chalky White (his logo can quite clearly been seen), who I'm pretty certain still lives in Essex....

Thank goodness that the actual racing starts tonight, so everyone can get on with discussing the racing instead of all these other issues. I dread to think what might have ended up being discussed had the closed season gone on for another month!

As I understand it, the intention was to reverse the colours on the logo this season ie to have a black witch on a white background and indeed three of the riders suits are like this. The other four show the white witch on black. But they are variations on a theme and the overall look of the kevlars is one of a team which surely is the intention. Every year when any clubs new race suits are revealed there are always differences between them (take Olly Allen at Peterborough for example, who's racesuit didnt carry the name of the team sponsor! hence him wearing a race jacket at the Peterborough Press and Practice day!).

I'd say the most important aspect of the Witches racesuit is that it once again carrys the name of Sackers Recycling as the main team sponsor along with a number of club partners. Afterall, there was plenty of grief on this very forum when Ipswich were not attracting a bona fida sponsor.

Good Luck to the Sackers Witches for tonight and indeed to all the riders from all teams racing up and down the country for our continued enjoyment. It's been a long, cold, lonely winter - so let the racing do the talking!

Having spoken to someone who was at the event, "no" is the short answer to that question (and people were watching). In fact, from what I've been told, several people who are close to the club were unable to attend due to the event being sold out (and they just accepted it and vowed to obtain tickets earlier in future!) Not sure why you think you're different/special/entitled?

What a strange posting. Not at the event yet offering an opinion as to what went on. Takes all sorts I suppose.

I think most long term fans at Foxhall, have always thought of Dave as "special"!!! Few can claim to have coped a right hander from Mrs Clouting, without even knowing who she was!!!

I wasn't offering an opinion Mr S, just stating what I'd been told (and asking a little question of my own at the end which you've clarified!!)

I was fully prepared to pay and had offered to do so for anyone who couldn't go. When the main session of the event was on, I was in the Social Club bar and could hear some of the interviews (despite Chelski v Napoli on in the bar and people at the event talking even while Kevin was interviewing). I knew that I would still be able to meet and speak to people outside - mainly smokers! And when several people actually left, I thought I might go in to the room itself. At that stage, there was no-one on the door. I would have happily paid and was ready to buy draw tickets, etc.

Surely the fire regs allow for the attendance of an event to be managed throughout the duration, e.g. if the entrance was controlled, people could sign out and new attendees could sign in? I wasn't given such an option - I was simply asked to leave, which i did. No problems at all as far as I'm concerned.

PS: I'm not entitled. I'm definitely different - indeed, we are all different (watch "Life of Brian"). I am special - and if anyone in this world doesn't believe they are special then they don't have enough faith in themselves :icon_smile_clown: .

I was told on Monday that Poole's kevlars were made in Poland ... sorry if that info was wrong.

On the main website, the "offending" kevlars are covered by folded arms - which suggests that something will be done: http://ipswichwitches.co/index.php/rider-details.
