dontforgetthefueltapsbruv
It was supposed to be P&P today Baldyman, but didn't hear any bikes from here(just 10 minutes away from the Stadium), so not sure if it did go ahead. Pete Simmons posted a pic on twitter of the lads warming up the bikes in the pits so definitely practice today. Lets hope they got a fair few laps under their belts. Perhaps this shows just what a difference the new silencers make.

Pinny
You'd rather have Doolan than Lanham or Neath though. Would you? Neath has an average 1.5 higher than Doolan whilst Lanhams has increased over the last 3 years since his first Newport greensheet average and he was terrific in the latter half of the season for the Wasps. Admittedly Neaths home average helps his figure no end but Doolans days as a top #1 are in doubt as his figures from the last couple of seasons show compared to previous form. I like Doolan but not sure I would prefer him to Lanham or Neath given the 2011 figures, greensheet or actual 2011 along averages.

Aries
By his own admission Doolan had a poor year last year by his standards. He finished superbly though so hopefully he'll pick up where he left off.
Steve Irving
Neath, Lanham or Doolan leading your team at number 1? Doolan all day long for me. Don't think you'll find too many preferring the others.
Mr Snackette
......Neath has an average 1.5 higher than Doolan whilst Lanhams has increased over the last 3 years since his first Newport greensheet average and he was terrific in the latter half of the season......... If you judge a rider's contribution to the team just on his average, then both Neath and Lanham have better credentials. However as most Witches' fans will testify Doolan brings far more to the party. I would go as far as to say he is the best leader the team have had since Moggo, and with the make up of the team this year, he will probably make an even greater contribution. Neath has always struck me as something of an enigma. An average which suggests a very good rider, yet when you watch him race, he rarely does much to excite. So very competent, if not a little dull....which also sums up Lanham. I think most Ipswich fans know enough about Lanham to form a valid judgement between him and Doolan. Just my opinion of course, as is the view that Doolan will show a greater increase on his average over the season than the other two. Aries
as is the view that Doolan will show a greater increase on his average over the season than the other two. I believe that too. He's apparently made a big investment machinery wise for the coming season so it'll be interesting to see if that makes a difference. I definitely think his average season last year was more machinery than man.
Baldyman
So are there any pictures amywhere from today? Are the race suits the same as last years? Who do you think looked the fastest today badge? When on his own morten can look very fast indeed
Pinny
Leigh Lanham was a brilliant captain for the Wasps during his reign as captain as most will testify. I have seen plenty of both riders over the last ten years to know who I would prefer... Doolan sustained a nasty arm injury a couple of seasons ago and seems to of lost the edge... I am afraid you cannot blame a full season of mediocre form on machinery for a rider of Doolans expierience. Both Neath (by some margin) and Lanham acheived higher figures than Doolan last season which is the main reason why I would prefer both over him. You see it with some riders, riding superbly then one bad injury and its game over... you only have to look at Watson with Newport in 2004/5ish to see that and despite being a decent enough rider after his injury, he was by nowhere near the dominant number 1 he had been in previous seasons and I feel the same has happened to Doolan who despite a few years as KL's top rider, has suffered a bad injury and looks a shadow of the rider he was. Cant speak for Neath but I doubt you will find any rider who has raced with Leigh Lanham in the past 10 seasons or more that wouldnt pay him plenty of compliments... he is a superb team man. When on his own morten can look very fast indeed pinched this of someone's twitter https://twitter.com/#!/Tm_Amott/status/179255999230779393/photo/1 Lol Baldy, they all look world beaters on their own don't they!!! Rohan took a couple of tumbles but nothing serious just slid off, Mat and Morten rode together and looked pretty good, Doolie was out for a long time trying all 3 bikes, and Dak was winding it on, I have to say though it was very very cold today. Taylor and Cam looked sharp. The proof of the pudding will be evident on Thursday, but all in all they looked good, they are keen and so so young lol!!! Leigh Lanham was a brilliant captain for the Wasps during his reign as captain as most will testify. I have seen plenty of both riders over the last ten years to know who I would prefer... That's your opinion, and no-one is trying to dispute that, however on balance I think the majority of Witches fans would still plump for Kevin over either of them. Remember Leigh is an Ipswich boy, and has ridden for us on and off for many years so we do know him rather well!!! Glad Doolie is a Witch and leading from the front. Aries
I am afraid you cannot blame a full season of mediocre form on machinery for a rider of Doolans expierience. Disagree, i think you can. In his weekly column in the Ipswich Star, Doolan held his hands up and admitted he struggled with machinery and set ups, but had his own way of doing things and wouldn't listen to advice being offered. He finally had a heart to heart with Chris Louis and accepted Chris' help. This definitely made a difference to Doolan's performances and like i say, he finished the season very well indeed. It wouldn't be a great surprise to see Doolan averaging 8+ this season and putting a point back on his average.
Baldyman
Thanks badge, maybe a couple of clues on the suits for teams positions, north at 5? Strange choice if that is the case

Bagpuss
Kevin also has a bit of a history of tinkering with his bikes when its not necessary, from memory he had spells in both 2005 & 2006 where he went from looking really quick and scoring well to being very sluggish because of making changes which weren't necessary in an effort to get a little bit more out of his machines. Listening to Chris Louis will probably see him stick at least a point on his average in 2012. If he doesn't then Lewis is right and the injury he sustained in 2010 probably means he'll not be a PL top liner again.
Mr Snackette
Thanks badge, maybe a couple of clues on the suits for teams positions, north at 5? Strange choice if that is the case Regardless of what's on the suits, I feel number five is the ideal position for North. Particularly away from home you need to have your better riders at two and three, as these are the only two riders that will have three opportunities to take TRs. Number four is important to provide cover in Heat 14. So in my opinion I would go KD, TP, MT, MR, DK, RT, CH. Probably won't be though!!! Leigh Lanham was a brilliant captain for the Wasps during his reign as captain as most will testify....... I'm sure he was, and good on him. I think most Witches fans would suggest that he always appeared a little overawed when racing for his home town team, and it may be that given the success of his father with the club, that expectations were perhaps set a little too high. Racing for a very small provincial team, like Newport, where the bar wasn't set so high, probably helped him develop as the weight of expectation wasn't that high!! Roland
Agree with both Snacky and Badge.......KD, TP, MT, MR, DK, RT, CH seems like the best order until the first change. 2ndbendbeerhut
I'll be another to agree with the line up. If it were to be that way then it would actually be in average order starting with Kevin the highest and Cameron the lowest, surely a first? Suits look good, even though there is an odd one....... Roll on thursday!
Badge
taken from Ipswichwitches.co: Witches Prepared For Rockets Landing Monday, 12 March 2012 22:35 | The 2012 Ipswich 'Sackers' Witches went through their paces at Foxhall Stadium this afternoon as part of their official Press & Practice day. Afterwards all the riders said that they can't wait to get racing and it was clear to everyone present that the team were already bonding well and eager to help each other. They won't have long to wait as the season officially starts on Thursday (15th March) and their first opponents, the Rye House 'Silver Ski' Rockets will be arriving at Foxhall for the first leg of the Anglian Cup. They will then travel to Hertfordshire on Saturday 17th March for the second and decideing leg. Ipswich won the first leg convincingly last year with a 56-39 score line and they restricted Rye House to an eight-point deficit in the second leg at Hoddesdon so with an aggregate score of 97-88 the trophy was lifted by the Witches. Ipswich will of course be aiming to keep the trophy in Suffolk but equally important they want to start their season with some great entertainment for their fans. Both teams have retained four riders from last year and they all have experience of riding at both tracks so any difference this time may come down to the performance of the new additions to their sides. Rye House had initially retained five but young Aussie Tyson Nelson has encountered visa problems so Ipswich asset Leigh Lanham has been drafted in as a temporary replacement after losing his own team place when Newport closed. The other new Rockets are Jason Bunyan, recently crowned New Zealand champion for the seventh time and Jason Garrity, the current British U19 champion. For the Witches their new faces all hail from Australia; Dakota North who impressed the Ipswich fans for all the wrong reasons last April when he scored a paid 18 point maximum at Foxhall while riding for Somerset, Rohan Tungate who finished fifth in the Australian Championship at his first attempt and Cameron Heeps who wowed the Mildenhall fans last year rising from a reserve berth to the number one racejacket in sensational style. There is a long tradition of intense local rivalry between Rye House promoter Len Silver and Ipswich dating back to the days when John Berry was the Ipswich promoter and Len was the promoter at Hackney. The desire to win these local derbies has not diminished over time in either camp so whatever the eventual score lines the two encounters should be a great start to both club's seasons and give their fans a taste of what their new teams are capable of. Let battle commence! For those Ipswich fans lucky enough to have a ticket for the 'Meet The Riders' night on Wednesday 14th March they will hear the team riding order announced by Team Manager, Pete Simmons, during the evening along with rider interviews, etc. Please note: we have now sold our ticket allocation and unfortunately there will be no tickets available on the door as the venue capacity has been reached. Ipswich 'Sackers' Witches Kevin Doolan © 7.19, Taylor Poole 6.90, Matthieu Tresarrieu 6.87, Morten Risager 6.36, Dakota North 5.83, Rohan Tungate 5.00, Cameron Heeps 3.00 Team Manager: Pete Simmons Rye House 'Silver Ski' Rockets Chris Neath © 8.61, Ritchie Hawkins 5.18, Leigh Lanhan 7.53, Luke Bowen 5.03, Jordan Frampton 7.71, Jason Garrity 3.48, Jason Bunyan 4.74 Team Manager: John Sampford
