All you lot just dont get it we dont give our own grown riders the chance to step up,we just go on signing overseas riders.Poland have a restriction on non poles in there teams so that they use their own and look how they produce good riders .Then we sign em over a british lad then moan that we are not producing any good riders. The national league is doing a great job bringing riders on then they hit a brick wall called premire league who are allowed to fill there teams with foreign riders and bring them on this is repeated every year what i would like to see is a limmit put on like the poles do and get on with helping our own lads come through not rocket sience i am sure.

I might just stand back and let 'Snacky' deal with the grammar and spelling on this one!!!!

It's debateable how "good" the Polish riders are. There's no doubt that they generally have more experience - exactly the same as the Aussies.

But moaning is no good - some options need to be suggested and tried.

The NL is trying to produce better riders, and it will start to happen, but not instantly - exactly as I mentioned in my reply to your original rant.

My solution is to prevent riders such as, e.g. (that means example only and I'm not singling him out) Simon Nielsen, only being allowed to ride in the PL on their assessed average, and not less. It's luaghable that Nielsen, and other young foreign riders, can come back on 3.50-4.00 averages, when they are clearly not capable of achieving that assessed average. If he had to come back on a 7.00, Nielsen would not be such an attractive signing. Using that approach, only the foreign riders who immediately step up to expectations will be employed, while the others will have to go back to their own countries to prove themselves worthy of a British team place.

I tend to agree that "assessed" foriegners should keep their assessed average till they reach it,it would encouragePromoters to stick with young Brits for a couple of seasons if they are progressing.

I suppose next you will have us believe that films are moving, in colour and with sound

SLIDESHOW? What? Surely someone in deepest Suffolk has ventured towards the cutting edge of technology & could show CINE FILM too (accompanied by a pianist, just like they do in the new-fangled moving picture emporiums)?

And a lady walking between the seats selling ice creams and soft drinks from a tray

Tungate and Heeps are at Peterborough.......Monday 19th March with Flying Ryan and Super Nicki.

FAST-RISING Australian youngsters Cameron Heeps and Rohan Tungate will both make their first Showground appearances in Peterborough’s eagerly-anticipated season-opener on March 19.

Heeps and Tungate, who are going into their debut campaigns at Premier League level with Ipswich, have been recruited to complete the Sullivan’s Seven line-up, led by club legend Ryan Sullivan, as they take on the new-look Readypower Panthers.

It’s a perfect curtain-raiser to the Elite League season with established stars Sullivan, reigning World Champion Greg Hancock and former Panthers skipper Nicki Pedersen set to provide the home team with a major test.

And the meeting will offer an exciting glimpse into the sport’s future, as 16-year-old Heeps enjoyed a sensational first season in the UK with Mildenhall at National League level, whilst Tungate (22) impressed greatly in a late-season visit in 2011, during which he competed in open meetings and scored well at both Redcar and Leicester.

Panthers’ doubling-up riders Rene Bach and Kyle Newman also line up against their regular team-mates to ensure the full squad have a run-out – and managerial duo Trevor Swales and Jan Staechmann will also pit their wits against each other for one night only, with Swales set to take charge of Sullivan’s Seven.

Co-promoter Julie Mahoney said: “I don’t think we could ask for a better way to start the season as the fans will get to see their own team, some of the World’s other top riders and some of the best youngsters too.

“It’s also a great opportunity for Cameron and Rohan to race with and against the top men, I’m sure it will do them good and we’d like to thank Chris Louis at Ipswich for his co-operation in allowing them to race in this meeting.”

Meanwhile, there continues to be plenty of interest in the sponsorship auction of the “Sullivan’s Seven” race jackets – with one bid even coming in from Australia!

The race jacket sponsorship will include entry to the meeting, name in the programme, photograph in the pits with the riders before the meeting and the unique chance to watch heat 15 from the centre green.

The jackets will go to the seven highest bidders at the time of the March 1 closing date.

Supporters are asked when making an offer if they are prepared to transfer to any other jacket if their bid for their chosen jacket is not successful.

The winning sponsors will be notified by email and it is requested that payment be received in full by March 12.

Panthers’ bosses will then contact all the race jacket sponsors to make arrangements for the meeting.

If the sponsor is unable to attend the meeting then arrangements can be made to post the jacket.

Offers for a particular rider or any of the jackets can still be made by email to juliem@readypower.co.uk

You really should pay the meeting a visit. I'm sure our Australian contingent would be delighted to debate with you face to face, your interesting, refreshing and original views on the state of speedway in their homeland!!!!

You missed that one Mr S - it was in response to a comment about a slideshow from the Ipswich Press & Practice ... and I don't think they meant Ipswich, Queensland ;)

Have to agree - something more exciting than a slideshow should be available - although of course the Super Seven Super Sackers Witches will be there, so that's quite an entertaining sideshow :)

Two New Witches Ready To Fly

Thursday, 09 February 2012 17:46 |

As promised after last week's season preview by Ipswich 'Sackers' Witches captain Kevin Doolan we turn the spotlight on to two of our new signings from down under:

Rohan Tungate has put in a lot of preparation over the winter for his inaugural UK season and isn't planning on being a reserve in the Ipswich team for long. Based in Kurri Kurri, New South Wales he has been training a far bit and also racing whenever possible, which for him is equally important. Speaking from his Australian home he says "I enjoyed the Aussie Championship series; it went really well for me"

"I have been busy getting everything sorted before the start of the UK season. I hope to get off on a good start and keep the team up the point end of the field plus keep improving my average. Easy to say but it can be done! I think we have a really good team, not just the riders, everyone involved. I enjoyed the Ipswich track when I visited last year and can't wait to start entertaining the fans".

Dakota North has taken a slightly different approach, as he gets ready to wear a Witches racejacket for the first time. He did take part in the Aussie U21 Championship recently, scoring nine points and last weekend he came third, with partner Tom Armstrong, in the Undira Park Pairs meeting at Shepparton, Victoria (Dakota scored 18 of their 24 point total). But apart from these meetings he hasn't done a lot of other racing. He said recently "This summer I have just been working for my Dad and water skiing as much as I can to keep up my fitness. I've been trying to save as much money as possible so that I can buy all new bikes for this year. I think it should be a good season in the UK; I like Ipswich a lot and should be scoring big at home plus I will be trying to be more consistence away as well."

For more details about Rohan & Dakota plus the rest of the Ipswich 'Sackers' Witches you can check out their profileshere Don't forget you will have a chance to meet the 'new boys' and catch up with some of your favourites from last year at our 'Meet The Riders' night on Wednesday 14th March. Tickets are selling fast and thay are limited so don't leave it too late if you haven't got one yet!

All this talk of no British riders riding for the Witches this coming season is tinged with sour grapes I feel by other teams fans. Chris Louis is running a business and if that mean no British riders so be it for success and keeping the fans happy and going through the turnstiles. There is a dearth of good young British riders at the moment and cannot think of any that are anywhere near the potential of our young Aussies. Also with the elite league in Chris's thoughts in the not to distant future, these Aussie youngsters are sure to make up part of the side when that comes about.

While I admire your patriotism, and can confirm first-hand that the Darren & Sharon Boocock Scholarship boys acquitted themselves well, they weren't exactly riding against the cream of the crop, JJ.
