Bagpuss
No need for a deep breath, just a bit of speculative fun before the AGM. Even if Morris' average increases by that much it would still leave over seven points for the last spot in my theoretical line up. Exciting times indeed at the Foxhole. Lovey
Not sure about the Brighton indoor is running but the the indoor ice speedway at telford is 26th Feb. I have to be very pedantic here and point out that the Telford event is "Speedway on Ice". If you want to see the very different Ice Speedway then a trip to Assen is highly recommended . Mr Snackette
No need for a deep breath, just a bit of speculative fun before the AGM. Even if Morris' average increases by that much it would still leave over seven points for the last spot in my theoretical line up. Exciting times indeed at the Foxhole. Not quite as according to my figures it would leave 6.92 to sign a number three, which would of course rule out Masters. So in the words of Michael Winner: "Calm down dear!!!!" Lovey
I think we perhaps need to calm down a little. The above is based on the current GSA not the end of season figures. I would remind all contributors of Rule 17.4.1: "At the end of each Season the BSPA will produce a Listing of all Riders who have competed in British Speedway during that season and following approval and/or amendment at the BSPA AGM’s these CMA’s (i.e. excluding Bonus Points but including other allowances) will be the Riders CMA for the start of the following Season." Whilst under the current rules and regulations Heeps and Tungate would come in 3.00 and 5.00 respectively, and there is nothing to suggest that this position will change at the AGM, but it COULD. In addition I think that young Morris' end of season CMA is 7.17. So perhaps take a deep breath until such time as the AGM is over. Don't forget that the rules for the not-very-rolling averages could be tinkered with or hopefully even scrapped, which would cause a few changes ... Roland
All the options/selections suggested would work to varying degrees and it all looks very positive. I've just one question?.....When is the 'Jolly Boys' outing so we can start putting some meat on the bones!
Mr Snackette
.....When is the 'Jolly Boys' outing so we can start putting some meat on the bones! I believe it's planned for the 17th to 20th November. Then once everyone has had the opportunity to huff and puff, threaten legal action, go off and sulk, we should know the outcome sometime mid 2012!!! Agreed100%. As I understand it the plan is to use 2011 GSAs for team building purposes, with RAs being used during the 2012 season. However I feel that each promoter will rock up at the AGM with their own agenda, and no doubt that there will be some "full and frank exchange of views", before the format is agreed. I have based my calculations on 2011 GSAs, but as Dave mentioned, who know whether this will change or not. If life was only that simple, remember this past season nearly everyone was predicting the Witches would walk the league (not me I must add) but look what happened they struggled to finish 3rd. So even if all the riders that are being quoted that MIGHT sign are actually signed, there will be no prediction from me that they will win the league. Anything can happen and probably will, so please no predictions lets just wait and see

Anything can happen and probably will, so please no predictions lets just wait and see Agree with that 100%, as very few meetings are won on paper. Indeed that is the danger of, albeit playful, speculation. Some people will take it as read, and then be disappointed with the actual team is announced. Without knowing what the outcome of the AGM is likely to be, and the basis upon which a team is to be constructed, makes any speculation pretty meaningless, although good fun!! One area that I will disagree with you on is last season. There were a number of people who thought that the Witches would walk the PL, but most of these were non Ipswich folk. I think you will find that the more seasoned local spectators were less bullish, and considered a top three finish would represent an excellent first season. However I do concede that the bar has been raised, and after years of being cast adrift in the cesspit that is the NsEL, people's expectations have increased. Badge
I know this is a thread for 2012, but have a read of Mike Bacon's view on the 2011 season: http://www.lovespeedway24.co.uk/teams/ipswich-witches/pride_back_in_the_witches_a_season_s_review_1_1117766

tone deaf
I am all for us signing up exciting young riders & you normally can't go wrong with the Aussies, but isn't it a shame theres no Brits coming through? Maybe Mildenhall will unearth one or two but at present there is a clear gap between Heeps & others like Jacobs or Blackbird. I liked the fact that we started last season with 3 Brits, even though admittedly they were probably the weakest 3 riders in the team (no disrespect to any of them). I thought Josh Auty might be worth a look but then I saw him ride Foxhall... Having said that, would be happy with Masters, Morris, Doolan, Poole, Heeps & Tungate too if he's as good as people say so that doesn't leave much room for any Brits, especially if you add Risager into the equation. Does anyone think there is any possibility of Bjerre being back? I don't believe all this stuff about Ipswich throwing money at riders, we're not the Poole of the PL! MrMungo
I don't believe all this stuff about Ipswich throwing money at riders, we're not the Poole of the PL! I can and do. Chris Louis basically admitted recently that Cameron Heeps had cost the Mildenhall/Ipswich promotion a lot of money. Wouldn't be at all surprised if they had splashed the cash at Tungate either. I said before the season started that I would be happy with a mid table finish as although we looked to have a decent team on paper, speedway is not run on paper and injuries, a riders loss of form etc all play a part. Now must go lay down in a darkened room from the shock of agreeing with Snacky.....
norwichkev
I am all for us signing up exciting young riders & you normally can't go wrong with the Aussies, but isn't it a shame theres no Brits coming through? I liked the fact that we started last season with 3 Brits, even though admittedly they were probably the weakest 3 riders in the team (no disrespect to any of them). I thought Josh Auty might be worth a look but then I saw him ride Foxhall... I think thereby lies the problem. I think you are wrong in generalising, T there are a few very good Brits coming through ( no disrespect, nor picking on you here ) but maybe Brit fans should give them a bit of time before dismissing. At Ippo you had Jerran this year who given a bit of time will progress - yet all too easily criticised by some Witches fans. Have seen Josh Auty a number of time and he has always been value for money, Adam Roynon if he stays injury free can kick on, Scunny @ NL this year had 4 or 5 riders who SHOULD be given a chance next season not forgetting Jason Garrity. Not so much of a gap between Blackbird and Heeps - remember Lewis started this year ( first in the sport )at reserve and ended up a Heat leader. Cameron IS something special and at 16 has already had a number of years in the sport. Maybe the fact that there are few Brits coming through is the upper two Leagues taking the easy option and plundering Europe for riders with experience rather than running with Brits ( who without being given the chance will ever get the experience ). Maybe as a Sport it is about time TV money etc was passed down the Leagues to allow the likes of the Scunnys, Rye House and the excellent management team at Mildenhall ( not only Heeps, Blackbird but the likes of Dan Halsey making massive strides forward this last season - and Aaron Baseby kicking forwards too ) to expand the network of bringing youngsters on ( no problem either with there being a capped amount of young Aussies etc being included, most of them appear to be excellent role models and have the winning mentality we need to start breeding again and also raise the level of the lower tier).
