Ipswich 2012

Recommended Posts

Is it that difficult to arrange the odd Saturday here and there? We know how vital the Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday crowds are to the club and we've seen in the past that a Saturday meeting matches those attendances.

The crowd For a Saturday night meeting against Swindon a few seasons ago was massive.

Surely even one bumper Saturday meeting a year to go with the bank holidays would swell the coffers and be a bonus to the club?

One of the bizarre restrictions of the stadium usage is that there can't be more than two motorsports events in any 8 day period - so if the Witches raced on a Saturday, and the Stock Cars were also scheduled to race on the Sunday, then one of the Thursdays either side would be ruled out - and maybe both if Spedeworth had another meeting scheduled. Possible you would think, but it would definitely take a bit of working out. Also of course, the PL has a few weekend clubs, and the Witches will already be arranging their fixtures around other commitments, e.g. Tresarrieu, plus I'm sure the young Aussies will be called away for some racing on the continent.

Thanks for the feedback. I was just interested in the reasons behind Thursday night racing and not making a suggestion of an alternative night. More of a question of why Thursday and how it came about rather than say a Friday night. Some people on here really do jump to the wrong reasons and Mr Snackette's answer did even deal with the question just gave an opinion about Friday night teams. About as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

So I "did even deal with the question"!!!! Whatever that means???!!

Before dabbling in hyperbole, perhaps in future, a cursory glance over your copy may help alleviate a grammatical faux pas!!!!

Hey shrimpfan that's even better. Believe it or not its for my fathers funeral. Speedway was the biggest love in his life (apart from mum) and he wanted this played. Thank you very much..

My sympathies baldyman on the loss of your father, I know what its like to lose a parent as Ive lost both mine now.

Hi tom thumb yes I went and a very enjoyable evening it was with a few jars. There was a very friendly atmosphere as all present seemed very happy with the team put together by Chris Louis. The only words spoken (not by me) to the management team that had a little concern was that the Witches did not have a no1 and there were no English riders in the team. But as Chris, John and Pete said the Witches strength is lower down the order and its a business and Witches fans want success and there are no English riders available to try and bring this about. Chris expects Kevin to up his average by 1.5 and become a genuine no1 and theres not so much concern about heat 13 and 14 as no tacticals are now allowed in those heats. We were all very happy to hear the news that Witches are hoping to parade a team in a new junior league of 7 teams and this is to be run after the main meeting has finished. This obviously will be for junior British riders hopefully many from our local area. So who knows we might uncover a new John Louis, Tony Davey or Jeremy Doncaster etc. And the thing that pleased me most is the fact that Chris Louis wants the Witches back in the elite league when they get their own house in order (if that ever happens) but will not be next season as he wants to build up the Witches asset base. So theres a few points made obviously there were many more too many to mention. And now theres the meet the riders night at Kesgrave on March 14th and we have already got our £3 tickets for that. So with 7 weeks to go its getting ever nearer to the roar of bikes again and a very young exciting Witches team to support. Bring it on!!!

Nice to read about the junior league being entered, looks like Chris means business.

7 weeks..can't wait to be honest.

I like the look of the team assembled by the promotion, as others have said, plenty of

room for improvement throughout.

C'Mon The Witches.... Playoffs must be strongly possible.

Good to hear that Ippo are planning to come back to the EL in the forseeable future, hopefully we'll still be there when it happens and the good old derby matches can be revived :drink:

I'll second that Bagpuss. Made Good Fridays something special, with the Home & Away meetings.

I can still vividly remember some cracking meetings during the 70's & 80's.

Riders like Terry Betts & Tiddler Turner for the Stars, and Tiger, Shrimpy etc for us.... lovely sunny

days, good old fashioned local rivalry on track and the banter between the fans on the terraces.

We'll be back in the near furure, then let the battle commence.. :t:

That a bit before my time :D my first Foxhole meeting was Good Friday in 1992 when we won a Gold Cup meeting 48-42, last heat 5-1 from Henka and Bo, happy days :drink:

Definitely a fixture thats been sorely missed since 2002 for me.

Yes I could not agree more always looked forward to our trips to saddlebow road and all the friendly rivalry and some fantastic races. Do you remember that race involving Chris Louis, Tony Rickardsson and Shane Parker? Inter passing between the 3 for all 4 laps with Shane just getting the nod to win the meeting for the stars, damn and blast!!! The greatest race Ive ever seen and so miss it now and cannot wait to get back into the elite league and witness some more great battles between our sides.

This years team has been picked with one aim in mind and that is for Ipswich to get back in the Elite League. What potential the club now has to take the Premier League Championsship and get back to top level and race against teams that are not 3/400 miles away .Bank holiday fixtures against King's Lynn again . Chris keep up the good work

Well for this year we have potentially a very good team, racing in a fantastic competition that covers the whole of the Kingdom.

As CL has alluded to, a return to the NsEL is an objective, but isn't yet on the immediate horizon. Until such time as the financial imperative can be changed, JL will not be persuaded to return to a competition that is guaranteed to lose money as opposed to one that actually makes money.

However it is good to see that the NsEL are gradually, albeit very slowly, making the changes which might actually make the difference. I remember arguing, probably three (maybe four) years ago, that amongst other things the NsEL needed to do was to reduce the number of fixtures and introduce a squad system. The number of fixtures have already been reduced, with the likelihood that it will be reduced still further in the years to come, and the rumblings are that a squad system could into existence very soon. The competition still has a long way to go, but who knows if the progress continues it might even lose its "Ns" prefix!!

In the meantime, most Witches fans (apart for those with their own perverse agenda) will eagerly look forward to the 2012 PL Season, and embrace the concept that this is a genuine national competition that encompasses teams from not just England, but Scotland and Wales as well.

As I have said previously I went to the supporters meeting tuesday and talk to the management team afterwards and Chris Louis said their aim was to join the elite league again but not until it got its own house in order. Next season is not an option so who knows how long the Aussies will be riding for the Witches before they move up with some other team into the elite league. This is one of my grouches about the premier league its impossible to hold on to ones favourite riders for very long as they move up into the elite. The chance to have 3 derby meetings against Kings Lynn, Lakeside and Peterborough is a mouth watering thought and I for one hope we move up sooner rather than later back into the elite league. But in the meantime I will enjoy our basically Aussie team before they move on to pastures new, if Chris Louis waits too long that is.

Did any of Ipswich's horse racing lovers back John Louis at 11/1 in the first race at Lingfield yesterday ?

Just one that I know of, sadly not me!!!!

Taken from www.lovespeedway24.co.uk:

IPSWICH ‘Sackers’ Witches star, Taylor Poole won the Australian U21 Championship at Kurri Kurri, New South Wales.

He scored consistently through the qualifying heats, beaten only by Sam Masters and Alex Davies who both joined him, along with Justin Sedgmen in the ‘A’ Final.

In the first running of this, Poole was in the lead but the race was stopped when Masters fell while under pressure from Sedgmen, with Masters disqualified

In the re-run Poole again gated first but had to fight off a spirited challenge by Sedgmen to secure his first U21 title.

The top three riders have now earned themselves a place in the World Under 21 Championships. Fellow Witch, Dakota North, was also in the field and made it through to the ‘B’ Final, finishing second to Sedgmen. Jack Holder, brother of Grand Prix star Chris Holder, also left Kurri Kurri celebrating after being crowned Aussie U16 champion.

Speaking straight after the event Poole said: “This is one of the happiest days of my life. The meeting went ok and I made a good first bend in the final but it got stopped and I didn’t think it would happen again. I made another good gate but Sedgy got past and then I got him back.”

B Final: Justin Sedgmen, Dakota North, Mason Campton, Ryan Douglas

A Final: Taylor Poole, Justin Sedgmen, Alex Davies, Sam Masters (f/disq)

Australian Under 21 Final Scores: Sam Masters 15, Alex Davies 14, Taylor Poole 13, Mason Campton 10, Ryan Douglas 10, Justin Sedgmen 9, Dakota North 9, Micky Dyer 9, Todd Kurtz 7, Tyson Snow 6, Jake Allen 5, Michael Penfold 4, Harley Brigden 3, Michael Detenon 2, Sean McLellan 2, Brenton Barnfield 1
