PhilK
Well said Mike It is easy to complain about the delayed start, but when I arrived at 3.15pm it was pouring down and continued to do so until after 4pm. Referee Chris Gay sensibly, with the cut off fast approaching, decided to give as much time as possibe for the rain to stop and in the end we saw a decent meeting in difficult conditions. It is to the credit of those that run the club that it was possible to run at all today, and the track was in remarkably good condition considering the rain that fell. After the first three or four races the track was fine and credit to all 13 riders for giving it a good go. Unlike in previous years we were kept fully informed of what was, or wasn't happening and in the end the crowd looked surprisingly good considering the weather, id say around 300. Once the meeting started it was run in under 90 minutes, even though there were a few falls, and was over before 7.15pm. Agan the referee and riders deserve praise for getting on with the meeting. The advantage of now having a decent track was there for all to see! We are now in the play offs, and await our next opponents Edited September 4, 2011 by PhilK
CardinalSin
A big well done to Mildenhall in both the result and getting the meeting on. Interesting interview with Chris Louis in the Evening Star on Thursday saying that his plan for both Ipswich AND Mildenhall was going well and "on course". I think the ultimate goal is to eventually move both clubs up a division. After all the uncertainty, things are definitely looking up for Mildenhall and they look in very capable hands which is fantastic. tas
i am so pleased this meeting was on because i brought 8 service users from Larkfield resource centre in Ely to enjoy speedway. They have been before on previous years and loved the day so I am so pleased the weather didn't ruin it. Many thanks to Lewis, Jack and Danny for coming to meet them and getting pictures taken. Lets hope it is in the speedway star as it was paid for by a supporter from Surry who sent me the money to take them. This proves what a wonderful sport speedway is and the generosity of some fans. Thank you also to the people who purchased one of our t-shirts today. If anyone would like more details please pm me or ask for me at Mildenhall. The money will go to new printing equipment at Larkfield and £1.00 from each t-shirt will go to Mildenhall air fence fund.
Stoaty
I'm surprised it's not already been done by a Mildenhall fan, so I'll step forward and commend the Fen Tigers management team on providing a more than raceable track in extreme conditions. I can think of a club a couple of hours away, that would have called this meeting off long before it had started, but not Messrs Jolly, Lee, Henry etc. I doubt there were many people on the terraces, if in fact any, thought this meeting had a cat in hells chance of taking place, but take place it did, and congratulations to both sets of riders for giving of their best. Good luck in your quest to reach the KO Cup Final, you and your fans deserve to have what will be another profitable day at the turnstiles. I'd echo that. It saved us a wasted journey. aljack
Well after waiting in the car park while the rain hammered down for well over an hour, it proved worthwhile as Bob and his helpers did a wonderful job to get this meeting on. Its a real shame it turned out to be the worst meeting Ive watched this season at Mildenhall. The Newport team apart from 3 riders were woefully weak and were no match for the Tigers sextet and the racing was very possessional and very boring. At least more interesting times are around the corner with the play-offs and very likely the kocup final. Just to finish the sadest thing to happen to me of all was, I never had any of their fantastic fish'n'chips times are hard
2ndbendpostie
I thought the crowd was pretty good considering the weather and the was it worth travelling or not decisions to be made, lots of hard work from the track staff and carefull consideration from referee managers and captains and great efforts from all 13 riders all combined to give us a meeting in which heats were only about 3 or 4 seconds slower than normal. If Jay Herne had'nt suffered from bike problems early on then the scores would have been a bit closer, but the home side obviously wanted it more with a play off place at stake, using R/R at No1 worked better than any guest has done for the tigers around West Row and no doubt the extra points money will be gratefully received by the riders. For me it was well worth waiting the extra hour to see a meeting, well done to everyone who made that possible. I hope the remaining matches are fixed up asap so the riders dont get match rusty, the crowds dont get out of the habit of coming and of course rain is more likely with every week that passes now. Is "tiger feet" our new adopted tune then ?, herad it more often yesterday than the old favourite "eye of the tiger".

So who knows, fantastic dry weather in September and October
