Scunny Stag
From www.scunthorpespeedway.com Scorpions expect bumper crowd The Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions and Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints take part in a double-header at their Eddie Wright Raceway track on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon (29th August) which will feature thirty races starting at 3pm. First up the Scorpions take on the Edinburgh Monarchs, who have a great record at the ‘EWR’ with three wins from five visits. They have two former Scunthorpe riders, in Kyle Howarth and Byron Bekker, at reserve whilst another, Andrew Tully, is part of a formidable top five. After that the Saints look to see off one of their rivals for the National League title playoffs. Mildenhall are the visitors and Jason Garrity will be in as guest cover for the Saints’ number one Gary Irving. Club Promoter Rob Godfrey is sure the return to a 3pm start time will see a larger crowd. “We tried later start times to help the track but the best crowds on a bank holiday have always been with a 3pm start time. It allows people to come from all over and still get back at a sensible time. We always try and get the two meetings done in three hours and we’re not usually that far away from achieving it.” “We’ve got two important meetings that are sure to provide some outstanding racing. Edinburgh haven’t been in great form recently but they’re no mugs and around our track they have great form. The Scorpions have been going well and have won ten home meetings on the trot which might be a Premier League record for us at the EWR so something is going to have to give. Hopefully we’ll be able to dent their record and keep our run going. Edinburgh are one of the teams who we’re fighting with for 4tth, 5th and 6th spots in the league so it’s vital to fight for every single league point”. “Then the Saints need to defeat Mildenhall if they are going to make the playoffs. It’s looking like being four teams out of six that qualify. I’m pleased we have bolstered our squad with John Oliver (see separate story) but he and Gary Irving are riding for Workington on Monday whilst Richie Worrall has to ride for Newcastle. Stefan Nielsen is going to come back and ride after his crash at Mildenhall last Sunday whilst we have been able to book Jason Garrity to ride at number one. He is usually great to watch but a little unpredictable. I’m sure there is going to be plenty of entertainment on Monday and hopefully we can secure two good results” Prior to Monday both teams have away fixtures to fulfil with the Scorpions at Somerset on Friday (26th August, 7.30pm) and the Saints at Buxton on Sunday (28th August, 3pm). Mimmo
As the King's Lynn fixture at Newport has been put back to 6.30pm from it's previously advertised 2.30pm start time, it means the seven of us that were going to attend will now no longer be doing so. So it looks like I'm gonna have to dig around for a different programme board, and watch you 'moggies' at both West Row on Sunday and Scunny on Monday. Here's hoping you get all you want.
