manchesterpaul
Little niggles aside, been a great meeting and anticipating the final. Amazing Greg Hancock still got such a commanding lead in the series. A very enjoyable start to the evening and providing the rioters have left some of city centre Manchester intact off for a night out later too lol. ImpartialOne
I knew who you meant. See what i said above about Ove and Briggo. 9 world titles between them and trust me , it was "outta my ####### way" every time. The difference though, is they weren't going any where near as fast in those days so the moves weren't on the same scale in terms of endangering others. Emil will end someone's career unless he calms down. He's got bags of time, he just needs to take calculated risks and use his head a bit more. manchesterpaul
Pure goosebumps stuff and a far preferable way than a police taser to get a tingle down the spine! Edited August 13, 2011 by manchesterpaul
Marmite
Fantastic GP, couple of questionable referring decisions, great racing only slightly ruined by Pearson who again showed he can't see beyond his three favourites of Crump, Hancock and Holder.. how many times did he tell us 'three times world champion Jason Crump'? They weren't piddling around at 30 miles an hour, my friend. It was just as dangerous a sport then as now..
Rob B
Great final, but if you watch it again looks like tapes went up on outside first slightly giving Jonsson & Hampel the advantage.
spencebel
I enjoyed that. Bet AJ is gutted to lose it on the line. What was wrong with MR Gollob, is he injured?????
mothorsen
The best GP so far this year, and a very good one all over. Dramatic and exiting right to the finish line in the final. The ref didn't impress me, but all in all a good evening.

Didn't watch the replay but Nigel Pearson has just tweeted to confirm this
Bagpuss
Well, well, well - a little bit of dirt on the track and the racing is great and not utterly predictable! Indeed, a proper GP on a proper race track tonight. Hats off to Hampel, have always had him down as a GT but that was a great ride in the final. Was the only Pole comfortable in the grip. I don't think Emil is as wreckless as people try to make out, his method of passing is to get underneath people entering the bends but with the track as grippy as it was early on tonight it was a dangerous game, as Jonasson found out. However the clash with Lindback was just two riders arriving at the same piece of track at the same time, no wing mirrors in speedway! They weren't racing flat out for 4 laps either though. They were much slower entering the corners and mid corner. They are like trains now in comparison. The White Knight
I must admit to enjoying the GP this evening. Great entertainment. Perhaps someone on here can confirm for me - I think that Greg Hancock was 22 Points ahead of Tomas Gollob when the Meeting started - NOW he is 23 Points clear of Jarislaw (sic) Hampel? So actually by getting his ONE Point in the Semi-Finals - he has improved his position. Go Greg!!!

A while ago I did a comparison of race speeds from around fifty years ago and today. The results showed very little difference despite the "advances" in technology etc.
