Decided last year that unless there was a drastic overhaul in the line up I wouldn't go this year and am afraid it's same old, same old. So won't be spending £18. Would rather spend it on a league game.

Not the greatest of line-ups: However I think maybe that is good because this field looks wide open and should produce some good racing. You would have to say that if Rooboy rides true to form he should win but with this line-up you could well see some shock results.

Not the most appealing of line ups and as I mentioned on Easy Tiger its strange that they're holding it on a night Glasgow are away. Would imagine that won't be the line up either ,as its doubtful Wright will be there and Sneddon is also unlikely.

Yes DW I,d rather Gollob,Pedersen,Crump etc were there! I suppose they could have changed the date to a non GP weekend and invited sponsors to pay them.

Yes the line up does pale when you look at previous winners since 1928. Maybe its a reminder of the Knife edge our sport is surviving on in 2011.

Must admit not to have Joe & James, with a very good chance of winning it, in the field is disappointing for potential Tigers fans and gate money !

Of course Tigers have more important fixtures this weekend and good luck to them.

Well apart from Sunday

Well young Roo-Boy showed how well he learned as a Monarch with an effortless 6 wins to secure the title again despite a couple of dodgy 1/2 bends. Good to hear that the Monarchs promoters fed him with dodgy burgers and his EL average will be down so low by October that we will sign him for next year on a 7.00 average ;) Well Tigers arranged that for Joe lol.

Some decent races tonight after a horror start for Olly Allen, hope he is ok. The Bandits fans would be happy with the efforts of Alden and Complin, the latter is a joy to watch anywhere. Wethers looked more determined than I have seen, Tully too was bursting a gut and Cookie went very well. Wolbert cruised to the final. Enjoyed the efforts of Simota too. James Wright was untouchable when he gated, but that was only 50% of the time.

Rory has now won 3 Opens and I look forward to seeing him back next year - maybe the MOTOR will come out of retirement to prevent him winning a fourth? ;)

Decent races? I must have missed that Davy. What an awful meeting. Right winner, Roo Boy was a class above and there was one cracking race when Wolbert clipped the fence on a second bend that caused a lot of riders problems on the night but fought back in great style to work his way back to the front and win (from memory heat 8?). Mostly from the gate stuff but I do agree Simota did his best to entertain although struggled to find a passing line

Hope Olly Allen has no side effects after his heat 1 fall on that second bend when he went over the safety fence

So you missed the semi final then....prog downstairs so can't remember the other decent ones, suffice to say that 2 mates who attend infrequently really enjoyed it, once the dirt moved to the outside it was better. Not the same without JG to boo though lol ;)

ach it would be boring if we all thought the same. The semi, Tully hard inside Wright off the opening bends then following his captain home you mean? I just think I have seen an awful lot better at Armadale. Two decent races in what is meant to be a prestigeous individual didnt do it for me. I had a couple of friends up from Manchester and they too were disappointed at the lack of competitive action - even as Belle Vue fans! ;).

Has the problem with bend 2 only just surfaced or has it been like that all season? First time I can ever remember Matthew Wethers being made to look like he was riding a bucking bronco round there

Indeed it would, I saw Tully and Wethers passing each other several times in that race! The track is certainly not of the same standard as 4/5 years ago, I don't know why. Matthew was certainly a bit wayward which is unusual for him, I felt he was overdoing it at times, but certainly the second bend appeared dodgy. Probably too much sun!

Having read the comments here I'm glad I didn't spend £18 on that one, and it gives me no pleasure saying that as I'd rather have paid and gone to see a good meeting.

In case they have a better field next year and I'm thinking of going, tell me did last night have the usual long delays between heats? :(

no george that was one thing they can take credit for - the meeting was well run at a good pace (altho if I was being hyper critical Scott Wilson really needs to get new patter and the bit before the final was perhaps a bit longer than it need be but to be honest thats really nit picking)

Thanks Lioness, glad to hear that's improved. You've mentioned my other sore point, Scott really does need to improve, I think he's gone stale. His style is almost cliquy and aimed at the Embra regulars. I've been to one Scottish Open when the riders were at the tapes for the semi before he announced who's in the race!

To answer your question.

No.

Re the meeting itself.

It wasn't the best field ever assembled but that was partly hampered by a few call offs IMO Darkin, Sneddon and Proctor would have added a few good performances to this meeting (potentially of course).

Add into the equation Olly Allen being ruled out of the meeting after a heat 1 Fosbury flop over the 2nd turn fence (I hope you're ok Olly - long way to come to sit in the pits for a few hours).

That's not to criticise the performances of the replacements. It is actually very good to see Joe Haines back on a bike again (especially after his winter crash in Oz).

So I guess if you (the general use of the word) want to find fault with the efforts of a promotion in assembling a field for this sort of meeting you will.

On to the racing.

What a difference confidence makes, Schlein 2011 is a different beast to that of 2010. Fast from the gate hard turns and smooth thereafter, 6 times, job done. Has he been in better form?

Of the others trying to get onto his coat tails.

Wolbert beaten by Schlein twice and Tully once and involved in an extra-ordinary heat 8 which included a stunning gate followed by the clouting of a fence (first to last) losing a certain bike part as a result (temporarily snaffled by a track marshall ;-) ) thereafter chasing down Complin (if only he could change line) and then a fiesty Howarth.

Cookie I've no recollection of Craig passing in this meeting his points were largely collected with some nice gates and first bends.

Wethers - bit of a surprise for me this one, I never really associate Matty with good performances in individual meetings but last night he was involved in some good tussles heat 3 scattering three Bandits to all corners of The Dale. Heat 7 contest with Simota (Matty coming out second best to Sam and third overall). Heat 20 tussle with Tully and again in Semi final against the same opponent.

Add into the pot a mercurial Wright an entertaining Simota (with some speedy bursts around the bends of The Dale) and a decent show from Alden it was a decent night's entertainment.

Looks like you enjoyed it pal and that's all that matters!

Not seeing as much of you on here this year, same can be said of a few Embra regulars, I do miss the banter! :(
