TrueBee
It's Great Britain. Only an idiot would argue otherwise. If all the riders were born in London we wouldn't call it London would we?

He had already stated he couldn't do the race off for family reasons. I think his wife has had an operation or something?? Not my cup of tea but think we missed him tonight Btw "we" being GB
ImpartialOne
England? Don't you mean Great Britain? Really pisses me off when the team is actually called Great Britain yet because it only contains English riders, people call them England. Yet if a Welsh or Scottish rider ever made it into the side (highly doubtful) they would all of a sudden become Great Britain for people like Big Eddie Chek. The assistant manager is Welsh so that counts.
spook
So up to recently it was wrong to call it england then? PC brigade again lol!!! ERRR were talking about a country not a city. Hasn't it been more a case that 'we' were England right up to the point that 'we' became Great Britain? Other nations may not get in the team currently but to call the team England is an insult to the other home nations....... there may come a day when our 3 best riders are Scottish and Welsh.... it is not so improbable when you consider the likes of Sayfutdinov, Zagar, Holta and Vaculik and their nationalities Should probably re-name it Cornwall after tonight! SCB
Why is cricket ENGLAND and rugby ENGLAND but not speedwy???? I agree if there were riders from wales or scotland then yes call it team GB. Cricket is England and Wales. And in Rugby they're England because England, Scotland and Wales are separate. In motor sport we always compete as GB - No doubt someone will come up with some obscure motor sport that doesnt now
Icicle
It is Team GB, yet I noted there were some idiots in the crowd dressed up[ wearing ENGLISH flags....Very annoying... However, let them be called English as they were (as expected) garbage...no self respecting Scots, Welsh or Irish would want to be associated with that lot! (unless independant Cornwall). From that post you are clearly not English. Would you be happy for a successful team to be called England or would you be saying they should be Britain? While they are struggling it's convenient to say you don't want to be associated with them, much the same as Andy Murray to the English is Scottish until he does well, and then he becomes British. Either support them all the time or not at all, whatever they're called.
Optimist
Haven't we always been known as Great Britain in the Speedway World Cup, even back to those halycon days when Airey, Briggs, Mauger and Moore were winning the trophy for our blessed Albion. It may have been Britain in the fifties and sixties, I'm not sure. It was certainly England in 70s, 80s and 90s.

Maybe they were wearing English flags because they were supporting the English riders... Just because they are riding for team GB, doesn't mean they stop being English. In sure if there were any Welsh/Scottish/Irish riders worthy of a place there would be plenty of Welsh/Scottish/Irish flags too. What a strange post

What a strange post I agree, one of the most bizarre posts i've ever read here, and thats saying something. The post is racist, yet implies all English are racists whilst claiming all Scots, Welsh and N. Irish are not. Still i got 8/1 on the Aussies last week so i couldn't give a monkeys. I went to the meeting at Kings Lynn on Monday with my English flag because I am English and the whole of the team were English. Whats your point? No disrespect to the Scots, Welsh or Irish but they havent got anybody good enough to ride for GB just now (having said that I sat through 3 hours watching Bridger last night). I am offended that you brandish me an idiot because I was wearing the colours of the country I was born in, supporting a team of riders who were all born in the same country as me.
